Another secret Canton gem. The Pad Thai spicy us the best dish on the menu. Always consistent.

I’ve been going here since they opened. The food was great, until recently when the new owners took over. They are on their 3rd owners. The original owners moved out of state and had sold the restaurant. And the ‘new’ owners recently sold. I used to come for lunch about twice a week & lately I don’t know what to expect each time. From cucumbers missing from my Asian salad to random veggies in my soups and sometimes less than flavorful pad thai. When I want Thai I’m now more inclined to make the trip from Avon to West Hartford for East West Grille(the owner there is the sister of the original owners of Green Papaya). Over all the food is good, but not like it used to be.

Tried this restaurant for the first time last week althought we have lived in Canton for a long time. Our usual spot has really reduced the portions and Green Papaya was convienent and has had good reviews. We picked up takeout and everyone had the garlic stir fry with beef. It was excellent with lots of veggies and lots of meat. I like how you can customize the spicyness with the scale of 1 – 5. We had 3 and it was noticeably spicy. I may try the 4 next time to see how much hotter it is.

I had the meatball appetizer and I didn’t like it. Had lettuce, cukes and tomatoes on the side but no dressing. Also the meat was of poor quality and the texture was not appetizing. For my entrée, I got the tropical scallops. This was delicious and I would get it again. In addition, we had reservations for 6:30, we ended up sitting down at 6:45+? Because of a long line of take out folks waiting and a 10 year old(though adorable) manning the hostess desk I’m assuming because the woman was too busy running around the rest of the place? But most tables were empty then. The whole night staff were overwhelmed, slow and it took over an hour for our meal to arrive. This happens at other restaurants, maybe a fancy $$$$ steak place but not Thai. All other Thai places both in Thailand and U.S. are fast. Maybe they were short staffed but other regulars waiting for take out said it’s «the usual.»

We Love, Love Love this place. The food is delicious, well priced, staff is great. Never had a bad meal, everything is just right. Huge plus BYOB! I did forget to mention, owners have changed, everything else remains the same which is great, very enthusiastic and extremely friendly. Wishing you much success.

Excellent Thai food! We had the sweet iced tea, cocoanut soup, papaya salad, pad thai and green curry. Everything was delicious and fresh. We are going to start visiting more often!

After eating at this place for 10 or 12 times I am willing to say it’s one of the best south eastern Asian restaurants in Connecticut. Not only do I dine there but I also get their lunch specials with frequency. They have three or four different standard curry colors depending upon your pallet. And not one of them have been disappointing so far. The shrimp dishes are wonderful. And I’ve also ordered blinds not really knowing what I was ordering and it’s always been delicious. Thanks green papaya!

The menu nearly overwhelmed us with all the choices available. I’ve never seen so many duck options on a menu. I had red curry duck which was a sweet mildly spicy dish with generous cuts of tender perfectly cooked meat. I can’t wait to go back and try the other duck choices. The soup was amazing as well. By far the best Tom Kar Chicken soup my wife and I ever tasted and excellent vegetarian egg rolls. My son enjoyed the chicken wonton soup practically licking the bowl. Service was attentive and friendly despite staff being down a server. Easily the best Asian cuisine in the Farmington Valley.

I have been eating here since I moved here in 2007. Excellent food, BYOB, friendly and accommodating staff. The food is über fresh and flavorful. The drunken noodles here are my favorite, but I also love all of their curry dishes. Every meal there, for me, has to start out with the Papaya salad. I’m a spice lover and I can find plenty of spicy dishes here, but there is also a lot on the menu for folks who are spice-shy. Great local business. Please try it!

This place is amazing the staff is nice the place is cozy and the food is amazing. PLEASE try the chicken wonton soup and the iced coffe. If you have doubts on what to get just ask the staff will help. The dessert is not the best but If you go to a Thai resroraunt for dessert then your probably not the most worldly person. go here please rate this funny or useful Thanks!

Consistent Thai food is something everyone looks for, and The Green Papaya has it! I’ve been here a handful of times, and usually settle for the classic Pad Thai, or Pad See Ew. These are equally as good each time I order, and come at an extremely reasonable price. The portions are also just right, and I can happily say I’ve left full, and with no leftovers! Small family owners and staff, friendly, very straight forward service. $ 10 corking fee if you’re bringing a bottle of wine, or a 6-pack of beer, there is no alcohol served in-house, although the Thai sweet tea is a sugary alternative to those who don’t bring their own. Some takeaways I have from friends and family who have ordered here that are also great options are the: Kai Kai Pow Red Curry, and Green Curry dishes. Keep in mind the *red chili icon* on the menu options because the level of spice is no joke! I would like to end on the note that if you are looking for atmosphere when dining, this is not the place, although it is a cute venue, the table settings are not the most comfortable, and the dining room consists of two rooms inside of a house. The music is very low, and it gets very very loud with groups due to the close quarters… so come for the FOOD, it’s satisfactory Thai.

Lots of options on the menu. Really yummy Thai Iced Tea my favorite! My vegetarian appetizer(although forgotten and then brought out after our meal) was really good. I ordered Sweet and Sour Veggies and Tofu and requested it without fish sauce to make it vegetarian. Pretty sure it had fish sauce anyways based on taste so I nibbled on some veggies, and gave away my leftovers. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their meals. I probably won’t go back, due to the fact that I am vegetarian and it is important to me that I am eating vegetarian meals.

I went here for lunch with a friend and enjoyed it thoroughly. The service was quick and attentive. I had pineapple chicken fried rice. The flavors were good. The only thing is it is a small place and not the best for someone with a baby carrier or maybe small children. I will go back just maybe without the kids.

I always do take out and practically have this place on speed dial. Never have had a bad dish. Though I’m not as big of a fan of the pad thai, everything I’ve had here is very tasty. Chicken tar kar(coconut soup) is my favorite! Pineapple fried rice is so tasty! Drunken noodles yummmmm! I’m looking forward to trying more dishes from here.

We were eating Thai in our home town for a while, but found out Green Papaya is only 5 minutes longer of a drive from our house and is… DELICIOUS! We have dined in once and ordered out a ton… and they never get the order wrong… never. Food is always so fresh, and still hot when I get it home! Their sticky rice is so yummy with their flavorful sauces. And they don’t go for super thick gravies but instead really nice light sauces… especially the curries. Their panang is off the hook! The only thing that we weren’t a fan of was the pad pri king… maybe just a bad day but it was super oily and we haven’t ordered it again since, but everything else we have gotten we’ve really enjoyed. Oh, and their clear noodle soup is the best I’ve had… try it with their hot chili sauce… yum! And to top it off their staff is just so kind and always a pleasure. I called once at 4:30 not realizing they weren’t open until 5, and not only did they pick up anyway, they took my order early and were super nice to me when I showed up! Just top notch people. Just a little tip — they do have a little sign that with gas prices etc being high, their bills have gone up, and to avoid cc merchant charges they’d love to get cash so they can keep menu prices where they are at. Ever since noticing the sign I always do my best to just bring some cash with me unless it’s a business meal and I have to use my card. They just really deserve to keep the place up and going and love that they are trying to keep the cost down for their customers. They are really just awesome people and we love going back to them when we’re in the mood for Thai!

Tonight’s Food 4 stars Tonight’s Service 2 stars Average 3 stars Kind of an off-night tonight. Its a strangely shaped dining room — a huge rectangle with a small hallway-like offset in the back on the way to the rest rooms. Guess where we were seated? Back in the offset. True, we didn’t have reservations, and the main dining room was pretty crowded, but that still doesn’t excuse the lack of attention to the citizens seated in the Peoples Republic of the Alcove(we never saw our server once between food delivery and check drop off). We knew it is a BYOB place, so we were prepared with our own beverages. We ordered three things — first a medium(also available as a large) Tom Yum Soup(the veggie & Tofu option) for $ 4. It was described on the menu as «The famous Lao-Thai hot and sour soup with light spicy sauce, lemon-grass, galangal ginger, onion, bell pepper, tomato, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice and fresh mushroom». You get your choice of veggie/tofu, shrimp or chicken for $ 4 — $ 6 bucks and you can also add noodles for $ 1. It was good and spicy with an excellent broth. The tofu cubes were delicious. Next item was an Asian Salad($ 8) for Shredded lettuce, bean sprout, cucumber, rice noodle, topped w/sautééd chicken, cubed crispy rolls, herbs cilantro and crushed peanut, served w/house dressing. The server splashed some of the dressing on my wife’s leg and didn’t say anything(maybe she didn’t see it happen?) until my wife started to wipe at it with a napkin. She did belatedly offer a wet-nap, though. Lastly was the Red Curry with Seafood($ 17) — «Spicy red curry with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, carrots, mushrooms, string beans, bell peppers, eggplant, and basil leaves.» I didn’t see any string beans, but the eggplant was delicious — cooked to smooth and creamy melt in your mouth perfection. Lots of calamari and shrimp too. The food was good here because the food is always good here. Service was a bit«off» tonight.
