Specialties

St. Thomas a’Becket is a thriving Catholic Church located on Lilley Road in Canton, MI, just south of Cherry Hill Road. We have over 10,000 registered parishioners. Our Temporary Administrator is Fr. Richard Perfetto.

Our Mission: We, as a Catholic Community of brothers and sisters, are called by God to be one in Christ Jesus. We strive to become a more inviting, welcoming and evangelizing parish through ministries driven by His word, the Sacraments, and the power of the Holy Spirit. We reach out to serve all people, to share Christ’s message of salvation and thus spread the kingdom of God. We invite all those who search for Christ to feel at home at St. Thomas a’Becket.

History

Established in 1977.

Cardinal John Dearden invited Fr. Ernest Porcari, then pastor of St. Clement’s in Dearborn, to lead this new faith community. Fr. Porcari celebrated the first Mass at Mildred Field Public School on June 19, 1977 with 450 in attendance. By October of 1977, the parish exceeded the required 250 families needed to begin a new parish. The steering committee submitted seven names for the new church and Cardinal Dearden selected St. Thomas a’Becket.

We officially became a parish on January 13, 1978. Ground breaking took place on August 17, 1980. Cardinal Szoka dedicated our church on December 20, 1981.
