Butcherie II

I went in on the Thursday before Rosh Hashanah looking for Latkes. A nice young woman told me that there weren’t any more but that they would be making more, would I like to leave my name and pick up on Friday. I went back and another woman was behind the counter. No we don’t have any latkes and we aren’t making more she said. And she gruffly told me they don’t take orders and the (nice) woman shouldn’t have taken my name. (god forbid someone is helpful)
No Latkes before a holiday, that alone is enough to make you avoid the place. Plus the fact the place is grungy and has an unclean odor. They changed their name to Zayde’s, but my Zayde would have avoided this place and so should you!

Amazingly fresh and wonderful meats and produce. If it’s Kosher, and they don’t stock it, ask and Josh will get it for you.

So awesome. A place to get kosher foods. It is especially valuable at Passover time. We used to live near the one in Brookilne and it was terrific. This one is smaller but the aisles are bigger. It is a great place to get all sorts of kosher foods for those of us out in the burbs.

Good place for Jewish and Israeli food.
The name is indeed misleading, as it has hardly any fresh meat. In fact, I specifically avoided this store before today, seeing as how I’m a vegetarian. However, a worker in the store told me it is named after another location in Brookline, which was opened some time in the 50’s.
Service seems friendly, although the cashier lady seemed in no hurry and was chatting to a lady in front of us for a looooong time (and not having her steep aside to let others through).
Prices are not really cheap, although there were a few bargains: for example a tub of Tofutti (vegan) sour cream was only $ 1.99, whereas it’s normally around $ 4 in most other places.

Hi! I consistently find the prices and quality of the Butcherie II to be on the mark. Cheaper than brookline. You can’t beat their brisket for the holidays. I also find for kosher take out their prices are reasonable. There packaged foods are no bargain, but you can find some hard to find kosher items. I shop here for Rosh Hoshana and Passover every year.
I would imagine the folks who did not review this place favorably did not defrost their food properly. I always find the staff to be helpful.
It certainly isn’t the sexiest place I have shopped, but it does the job.

Went just before passover this week and bought what they told me was a «new batch of frozen sweet potato pancakes.» Bought two boxes and brought them home to individually wrap and the entire contents were totally frost bitten so they probably defrosted between store delivery to store freezer. Store supposedly sending refund tomorrow after I speak with «Mary or Peggy.» After this post. who knows!
Also tried a store made passover noodle kugel and it tasted like METAL! My husband took one taste and threw it in the sink. The odor after heating was horrid!
Noticed that most store made prepared foods we dark and seemingly overcooked. The only things that looked good were pre packaged from known manufacturers!

The name is misleading as the fresh meat selection is limited but the prepared foods are abundant. I tried the chicken pot pie, flaky beef knishes and picked up some beef liver for the dog. I’m not a card carrying member but I thought the knishes were pretty good. this is not a true butcher shop.

I bought 2 dozen Passover beef knishes this year and, $ 22 later, ended up throwing most of them away.
They tasted vile. The dry, chalky matzah meal breading was at least a quarter of an inch thick all the way around (before it crumbled into sawdust), not leaving much room for the filling. They must be trying to save money by changing the balance of ingredients.
The filling was mostly potato, speckled with a few dried bits of «beef.»
I’m talking undetectable, negligible amounts of beef. Just lots of potato. I never even knew there was supposed to be potato in beef knishes. Maybe they were labeled wrong (both packages?)! My shoe would have tasted better.
I’ve bought Passover beef knishes from the Butcherie in Brookline before, and they’ve always been delicious. I understand that matzah meal doesn’t hold up as well as the breading on the regular year-​round knishes, but these disappointed so much because of how little beef there was in the filling.
I’m going to the REAL Butcherie in Brookline from now on! Don’t be fooled by the name — this store is not affiiliated.

Looking for Israeli, Jewish or kosher food? This is the place for you! I didn’t buy much this trip as I was out for the day and didn’t have anything to refridgerate my food. I bought LOTS of sesame honey candy that I used to have as a child. MMM GOOD.
Of note, this location compared to it’s sister in Brookline isn’t as busy and has easy parking. The brookline location is CRAZY INSANE on the Jewish Holiday season and the parking is tough.
