My first review of this horrible business was removed because they claimed it wasn’t a «personal» experience.
Ok, so let’s try this again. I’ll describe my personal experience with this company and how I personally reacted. Then I’ll add the personal contact I had with the owner of the company.
I personally received a personal phone call from this business. An unsolicited robocall. That was personally received by me. My number is on the do-​not-​call list, thus this company is violating the law.
After adding yet another one-​star review to this gem of a company on Unilocal,I personally received a personal message from someone claiming to be the owner. He swore that they were trying to fix their «ongoing issues with their call center». Given that they’ve been doing this for years, I somehow doubt that. Generally speaking, it shouldn’t take special effort for a company to not violate the law.

So I was notified by Unilocal today that they removed my previous review because it wasn’t «specific enough», so here goes getting specific.
10 years ago we had BusyDog come and give us a quote to fix water in our basement. In the end, we decided to use another company. Since then, BusyDog calls constantly (like, monthly). I have asked repeatedly to be removed from their «call list» and also reminded them that I am on the Federal «do not call» list. Still, they persist. When I ask the BusyDog caller why they keep calling, they just hang up on me. I consider this unethical and a form of harassment — and will NEVER do business with them because of this behavior.

Unilocal, shame on you for deleting my previous review which also gave direct feedback about BusyDog’s behavior after my direct experience with them on a business transaction.

This is one of the slimiest companies we have ever encountered and we have dealt with half a dozen contractors over the last 2 years on multiple projects in our home.
The salesman they sent out made a good first impression, he seemed knowledgable, pleasant, and was attentive to our questions and needs. However, Busy Dog called us in the middle of the meeting to check up on THEIR employee. The salesman was so embarrassed and we felt badly for him. We liked the plan he presented and the discount he offered made it reasonable. We did not want to finance so we decided to wait for my husband’s annual bonus due in 2 weeks to schedule the work. He explained that he works on commission and would appreciate it if we would call him directly when ready to move forward and we promised him we would.
It was down hill from there! The company would not stop calling/​harassing us and offering to send out other salespeople and kept pushing even after we told them the guy that came out was fine. Their desperate tactics and total lack of respect for their employee prompted us to research them online before signing the agreement. Seeing all the negative reviews reaffirmed our instincts that this is a sketchy business.
If they can treat their employees that they see everyday so poorly, no wonder they have so many unhappy customers!

I wasn’t going to write a review because they only came out for a consult. They were so expensive! He tried to wheel and deal me, but no matter how you looked at it, I just couldn’t afford it. I declined their services.
Recently, I opened my
alert and notice a credit card was opened in my name on Jan 22, 2016. When I called the credit card company I was told Busydog Basement Technologies opened it! What? Two months after the free consult this company has the nerve to open a credit card in my name without my permission! What is going on with this company?
I have been advised to call the Federal Trade Commission to report them.

Feeling lonely? Call this company to give you a quote and they will never stop calling you! The best part is they call at least once a day and even though they have already come out and inspected your basement they will offer to come out and give you a free basement inspection!
I had multiple basement companies come out to give me quotes for the work in my basement. These guys where 30% higher than the others and offered less services and the guy who did my quote got pushy when I said I wanted to take a look at all my options… This is a 10k investment and I sure can’t drop $ 10,000 like its a few pennies in my pocket. He offered to dropped the price 30% if I would sign the contract right then and there and promised all these additional things that he would thrown in at no cost to do me a favor. He wouldn’t put them down on the quote but said he would come out the day of the install and tell the Forman what had to be done… Yea ok!
I had already received 2 other quotes and done research on what I needed done before he came so I had an idea of what I was looking for and the cost. His 30% discount brought him down to around the same cost of the other basement companies.
Anyone without experience in the construction field should stay away from this place. They sound all and good but if you know anything about the trade you can easily pickup on the bullcrap they try to tell you. And No you can not direct the discharge from the sump pump over a septic tank — that causes major issues!

Worst customer service ever! It took them 3 weeks to come to the house to fix a problem with our installation. Appointments were made and not kept. They did not call to explain. Required documents were not sent to us, even after they promised that they’d been mailed. They’ve called several times offering to give me an estimate for the job that’s already been done. I’ve told them not to call me, but they still do it. They are very good at selling and installing systems, but they have no clue about providing customer service.

It is clear from the other reviews — all one star — that Basement Technologies doesn’t read or care about these reviews — and congrats to the person who gave our James Pratt’s home number. I finally got off their list after more than 10 times telling them 1) I already have their system, and, 2) speaking with every manager in the company. But this Unilocal is about their maintenance system — I have it, actually pay extra for it – but now that I have a problem, I am told that, if they come to my house and the problem is NOT a BT problem, they will have to charge me. «What? But I already pay for a maintenance contract — shouldn’t you come and check that it is/​is not related to the system?» Bottom line — I might as well just call a plumber and pay him — instead of having to pay double to BT — once for their maintenance contract, and twice to actually do the maintenance on the system. This company is truly NOT customer-​oriented. My basement system works — but the customer service of the company just stinks. Many seem to agree. Wonder if they even read these reviews?

The system my work great, but clueless with office management…

I scheduled a free estimate for a Saturday morning at 0800 hrs. At 0745 hrs I sat on my porch waiting for them. I received a call from them just prior to 0830 hrs explaining to me that no one answered the door and their tech already left the area.
I confirmed the address, which is located in the same town this company is and explained that no tech was at my house and that I was waiting outside for them since 0745 hrs. I further explained that none of their vehicles drove by my house during that that time. The woman stuttered/​stammered and eventually apologized for «the misunderstanding».
This was over two years ago. They still hound me with phone calls and refuse to remove me from their call list.

My complaint is not about their technology– more about their hounding and hounding and hounding me on my personal cell during work hours to sign up for their system — even though I already OWN their system, have the battery back-​up and get all their maintenance on a regular basis. Each time they call, I ask to speak to a manager to ask how I can get off their call list. Sometimes they give me a manager — today they just hung up on me. What do I do? How do I get them to take me off their list? How many people do I have to speak to at this company before they hear me? They have PROMISED to follow through — yet they keep calling. They make me crazy — I am even tempted to cancel my service with them just because of this. HELP!!! If they even read this complaint let alone responded I’d be impressed.

don’t ever give this company your phone number, they will continue to call you no matter how many times you asked to be taken off the list. they should drop the technology from their name since they can figure out how technology works. after asking them 6 times to be removed, now i’m just pissed. if i get one more call i will start calling them once a day to book their salesmen to visit phony addresses.

What this company promises and what it delivers are two completely separate things. Their promise of guaranteeing a dry basement is a joke. All they want to do is rack-​up site visit charges ($ 275 to just show-​up) and equipment upgrade costs for you, not deliver anything resembling customer service. Good luck getting them to respond to your calls in an emergency — you are put in an endless circle of call waiting and pushed from one operator to the next and then dropped with no call back. The last time I tried getting through to them I ended-​up on a crossed line with another of their customers, if you can believe that, who was herself totally irate and dissatisfied with the so-​called basement technology service.

Still trying to get off their call list (aka harassment list) with no luck. I’ve called the company several times and spoken to «management» to only be treated rudely and have false promises made that I would be removed. Another review messages suggesting I contact the BBB about this company and I have to do it at this point. Apparently this other person had luck with this method. I really wish I didn’t have to go to these lengths but it seems the only way since this company calls me routinely from different numbers so I think it’s a client of mine when it’s just these jerks.

In the past 12 months, they’ve called me 6 times even thought I asked to be removed from their calling list. They block their caller ID so you won’t see that it’s their company calling. When you answer their call, they jump right into pitching you their services and ask to setup an appointment. I just called their 800−287−9364 number to talk to a manager about this and am now waiting for a call back. I’ll report back here when I get an answer about their telemarketing practices.

Years ago this company completed over-​quoted me for a simple sump pump replacement. Since then I have received MANY calls from telemarketers and each time I request to be removed. Refuse to stop. Violating multiple laws including not using unidentified callers and not removing names from list.

In the late 1990s we had a system installed by Boston Basement Technologies, now operating as Basement Technologies.
I can hardly count the ways the screwed up. Here are a few highlights:
1. When Jim Pratt did the estimate and sales pitch, I showed him a diagonal crack across the concrete basement floor that water had been coming through. Instead of analyzing why the crack followed the path it did, he simply proposed to drill through the concrete along the crack and put a french drain there in addition to the drain around the sides of the basement. Over the next couple days I thought about what might cause the crack to follow that exact path. I noticed that it followed a straight line between the sewer cleanout and the point in the basement floor where the drainpipe for the kitchen sink, toilet, and washing machine goes down through the floor. Obviously, the sewer line was directly under the crack. Pratt’s the expert. He drills through concrete basement floors every day. If I had depended on his «expertise», we’d have had an open sewer line in our basement, and the cost to tear up the concrete floor and replace the sewer line would have been astronomical!
2. Pratt promised that all our stuff in the basement would be covered with plastic so it wouldn’t end up coated with concrete dust. But his workmen showed up about an hour before he did. None of them spoke English. They just started drilling, and I couldn’t get them to stop and cover things. When Pratt finally showed up he had them cover our things, but by that time they were coated with a thick layer of concrete dust!
3. The pump would fail every few years, and Basement Technologies wanted ever-​increasing fees to put in a new one. I put up with this for about a decade.
4. After about 3 pump failures over the course of a decade, and never truly knowing if they were jerking me around, the pump failed again during the nor’easter in April 2007. At about 3:00 AM we had about 2 in. of water all over the basement floor, but Basement Technologies doesn’t have an emergency line so I had to wait until they opened at 8:00 AM. When I got somebody on the line, the said someone would call me back. When I eventually heard back, they said they’d charge $ 600.00 to replace the pump, but they were overwhelmed with calls and couldn’t come out to replace it until the next day, if not later. They also suggested I try grabbing the plastic pipe that went through the sump hole cover to the pump, and shaking it up and down. I guess the idea was that maybe banging the pump around for a bit might get it to restart. That was the stupidest idea anyone’s ever suggested. All it did was break the pipe where it connected to the pump.
Since I was unlikely to get any help from them anytime soon, and their price seemed exhorbitant anyway, I finally removed the sump hole cover myself to see what was down there. Doing this underwater was a joy-​and-​a-​half. I then went over to Home Depot, bought a sump pump, and installed it myself. Home Depot wanted $ 125 for a pump comparable to the one Basement Technologies wanted $ 600 to install. Instead I splurged and spent $ 200 for the most powerful one they sold. It’s been performing like a champ ever since!
While reading through the installation instructions for the new pump, I came to the step where it explains how important it is to drill an air hole in the pipe, one to two inches from where it connects to the pump. If you don’t do this, air can get caught somewhere inside the pump, and the pump will freeze up. I looked at the old pump and pipe that Basement Technologies had installed. No airhole!
But that in itself isn’t conclusive proof that Basement Technologies had caused the flood by installing the old pump wrong. Maybe the pump they’d installed was of some magic design that could operate properly without an airhole in the pipe. So I called the manufacturer of the old pump to ask if their pump required an airhole. They confirmed for me that if their pump was installed without the air hole in the connecting pipe, their pump would eventually freeze up. And the most likely time for that to happen is when you need it the most!
It would have taken the installer half a minute to drill that hole. Because he didn’t, I ended up with a flooded basement. The only question in my mind is whether this is an intentional plan to increase their profits or if I should simply chalk it up to stupidity. Over the course of the preceding decade, I’d spent approx. $ 1,500 to have them replace the pump every few years.
After this experience, I did a web search for Basement Technologies and found countless victims (customers) complaining bitterly. I also found that their license had been suspended by the state, apparently because they’d stiffed some of their employees. The seem to be back in business, so I guess it’s been restored.
There may be worse companies out there, but so far I haven’t encountered one.

I saw Basement Technologies at a home show. The salesman
came out to my house and I signed a contract for service
impressed by his pitch. I had no buyers remorse and still hope
to get the job done by a reputable company. That night I
researched on line and read some really bad reviews and looked
them up on the BBB web site surprised to find a bad review and
rating. I cancelled the next day with a certified letter, an email,
and a call to their offices. This was the next day and within the 3
days allotted within the law allowing for cancellations. The
original salesperson called me back and I explained to him that I
was surprised by the «C-​» rating given by the BBB. Since then
everyone I talked to has seemed to have the same line saying
that the BBB charges money so that’s why they do not belong
to it and get poor ratings. They cashed my check the day after I
wrote it. I have called numerous times and have not received my
money back. I received a message on my phone one day saying the crew
was coming out to perform the job after this. I called them yet
again to say that I had cancelled. The service manager came out
to my house about five weeks ago and tried to sell me again. I
asked for a refund and he said he will inform the people in the
office who take care of that. A week later I received yet another
sales call offering to discount the service and I politely asked for
a refund. I have called and left messages. I have been polite. I
have yet to see my refund 2 months later.

If I can give a minus star to this company I would. In fact, they don’t even deserve a minus start!
I hired this company to install 4 basement windows, 4 doors, a drop down ceiling and recess lights. Simple right.
Well not for this company!
This project was sold to me in May 2013 and had an agreement that the project should take a week or 2 but no more than 3 weeks. Well it is now Dec 2013 and the project is still not done.
All I’ve been doing is calling the office and they play merry go around with the so called senior managers. Every time I talk to a new guy that took over the project I have re explain every detail of what is going on. Their concept of I’ll return your call in a few days is more like I’ll return your call next month or never.
I’ve even reported this company to the Better Business Bureau and they also get the run around.
There is absolutely nothing positive with this company except they tell you a good sales pitch and a good laugh at their number 1 – 800 BUSY DOG. Busy Dog my ass!
If you ever deal with this crew don’t even bother. Everything they would tell you is probably a lie. They told me they got full time employees rather than contractors, but at the time my project rolled in they were all out on a project.
These guys buy all their materials from a local store like Home Depot or Lowe’s. You are better off in hiring a contractor yourself than hire THESE CLOWNS!!!
I wish I had googled this company up before. If you do you will find a good amount of complaints about their service.
BE WARNED!!!

Buyer Beware. Hired this company to install a pump system in my basement. Quoted as a one day, no hassle project by their sales rep. The company destroyed the pavement in my back yard and said that they could not fix it. The exit pvc pipes from the house were not put in straight. Half way through the installation I was asked for an extra thousand dollars for a new pump. Every time the company came out to fix a problem a different worker would come out and say «wow this is one horrible installation, they really screwed up». There is a giant disconnect between the management and work crews.

We called these jokers in July of 2009, after we determined that our old sump pump was not up to the task of keeping our basement dry. The technician that was sent out recommended a new sump pump in the opposite end of the basement — he claimed it was the low point — and a ten foot channel dug into the middle of the floor. He claimed that this would absolutely keep the water out of the basement. Our basement would always be a little damp, but we would no longer have puddles. We paid $ 2500.
Fast forward not even a month. A heavy storm comes and our basement floods; but now it floods in the corner where our old pump used to be. The new pump never even runs. As it turned out, they placed the pump in the wrong end of the cellar.
I try calling and get the run around for a few days. Finally, they send out a tech who claims we need a partial perimeter drain in the part of the cellar that floods. They refuse to admit to the fact that the pump is in the wrong spot, and always deflect the question. Stupidly, we agree to the partial drain and pay another $ 1000. For a few months, everything was good. The basement stayed dry.
Fast forward to February 2010. The heavy snow and rain comes. Water begins to seep into the basement. The pump runs like crazy and just dies. Luckily, I manage to get the pump going again, but I have to watch it assiduously for several days. Again, I call BBT, and again, I get the run around for a while. I complain not only about the failed pump, but again about the pump being in a bad spot.
The next month they send out their heavy hitter, a real intimidating guy who claims to hold a degree in waterproofing. Again, this guy deflects the fact that the pump is in a bad spot. They replace the old pump, but first almost gave me a lesser pump «by accident». I call them on this, and they put in correct one. Again, they try to upsell me into a full perimeter. We ask for a quote, and the price comes back as three times as much as it would have been, had I done it at the very beginning. Of course, we refuse. Now we’re just in a holding pattern. We have a method for getting water out of the basement, but it is far from elegant.
Get this: To add insult to injury, they then try to bill us for the tech coming out, even though the pump failed and was under warranty. It takes us a handful of phone calls and a threat to call the Attorney General to get them to correct this.
Do yourself a favor, avoid this company like the plague. Call your local plumber and see if he is capable of installing a pump. I guarantee you it will be done with greater care and for less money.
