I went for my first visit after being recommended by a friend. I had a migraine for over a week and nothing was helping. I saw Dr. Allan who treated me and walked me through his whole process. He picked out a blend of herbs specific for me. I had a little trouble getting used to taking them but I figure out the best way for me is to mix them with water and take it like a shot. I felt relief about an hour after my first dose which is why I decided to write this review. I’m so grateful to Allan and MMVBS!

Dr. Matt saved my life. He said I had more mercury in me than he’d ever seen before and within 5 years of treatment it was all gone. I went from bedridden with multiple incapacities back to my normal health with his support. I lost my business, my home, my retirement fund, but regained my life, found my new wife, re-​entered my profession, and feel great, not at 75. His method was totally personalized, caring, and thorough. It was important to follow his prescriptions exactly, including the drinking of tons of water to cleanse the body laden with toxicities. The herbs have difficulty working without plenty of water to push them along. I still have a great sadness with the loss of this wonderful healer. May he rest in peace. God bless his associates for carrying on the clinic and helping so many others.

I wrote a 5-​star review in 2012 because I had been seeing Dr. Matt for 8 years at that time, and he did save my life. I went into great detail in the first Unilocal review. Not only has my review been removed from this site, but also from my own Unilocal account of past reviews I have done. What is that about?! Who is censoring this?
To recap, I had severe Chronic Fatigue, mercury that had flooded my system when a dentist in NY had removed my amalgam fillings without properly damming and preventing the mercury from affecting me. I was so weak and sick when I went to Dr. Matt that I barely had the strength to drive there from San Diego, had difficulty stepping up on a curb, and had myriad other frightening symptoms. My experience upon arriving was that I did have to wait maybe an hour or more, but that also Dr. Matt spent a VERY long time working with me. In future years I never worried about waiting for my appointment, because I knew that if he had someone else very sick who needed his time, he would give it. Some times when I came in I would be in and out in 15 minutes. Sometimes he took much longer. He never thought twice about anything but helping his patient. The first time I saw him I asked him if I would get worse before I got better — I asked this because previous other types of practitioners had told me this (and I never got better). He was appalled and said, you call me if you do not feel better in 24 hours. I felt better the same day, and continued to improve to the point that I am still symptom free and very strong 11 years later. His ability to diagnose is remarkable, and yes unusual. He is often very terse and focused. He is not chatty. Dr. Matt helped me when I was becoming helpless, unable to work, and no traditional doctor had a clue what to do with me. I am forever grateful. No question, he saved me then, and whenever I had mold or other toxic exposures over the years, his herbs could take care it right away.
If you are lucky enough to see this OMD, then listen to what he tells you to do and do it! But mainly, take his herbs regularly!

This man helped me a lot. He’s not cheap and the herbs aren’t either but if you need some serious help all I can say is I found it here.

Very, very good health care here. I was living in a moldy house but didn’t realize it was making me sick. (It was also making my pets sick — one of them ended up in the ER in an oxygen chamber.) Matt van Benschoten was the only physician out of many who caught the mold problem.
The herbs were mostly good. I have some sensitivity beyond the normal person, so there were a couple of times when I had some allergic issues with the herbs but for the most part, they worked and worked fast.
I’d say he’s almost psychic because I was re-​exposed to mold and got sick a 2^nd time and Dr. van Benschoten (a real OMD) said I had mold problems again. «Impossible» was my thought. I’d moved, I bought new pillows, I threw out my houseplants… but lo and behold, I found some mold in my Neilmed Sinus Rinse device. I’d been literally injecting mold back into my sinuses daily and didn’t know it. He’s that good…

I beg anyone using Unilocal to evaluate M.M. Van Benschoten, OMD to evaluate the reviews that Unilocal currently does «not recommend». Someone from Unilocal has been calling his office and offering to «improve his rating» for a fee! This is fraud. Of the 15 reviews currently «not recommended» 14 are 5 star reviews. The review I posted on ¾/​14 was moved to not recommended. I am shocked and disappointed by Unilocal and will not again rely on any of their information.

Dr. Matt helped me tremendously more 25 years ago with chronic sinusitis and overwhelming fatigue when no other medical provider could help me.
I took my son’s 18 year old friend to Dr. Matt over a year ago after he was diagnosed with MS and his driving privileges were revoked. Dr. Matt reviewed his records and prescribed a treatment plan that remarkably improved his condition. Six months later his driving privileges were renewed.
I note that three of the four «recommended» reviews were never treated by Dr. Matt. I looked at the reviews not recommended or factored in his rating ¹³⁄₁₄ were five star ratings, 13 were patients that he actually treats and the other review was from an M.D. who regularly refers to Dr. Matt. What’s up with Unilocal

Are you kidding me? I have been going to Matt’s office for about 6 years now! The front staff is full of sweet, helpful, and VERY understanding somen. Sometimes, I make appointments with Matt himself, (who is a quiet, but quick, and talented, master of his domain.) Sometimes I make appointments with another associate of his, named Gila. She has always listened to me, helped me with both my major issues, which brought me in, as well as little thing that I didn’t think would be fixed. When I had gone in for my bronchitis, She asked me if I had unusual sweating in my palms and feet, because I was a bit clammy. I told her I did, and she told me to cut out the coffee. Sounded strange, but when I did, it ALL went away for GOOD… I miss coffee though.

I wish, I could give him zero star. I went to his office as a desperation. I was very sick and someone recommended him to me. I went there with a lots of hope because I didn’t have that much results with western medicine. They explained to me that the walls of room should be white, because colors interfere with diagnosis! Well if colors interfere with diagnosis, the desk wasn’t white, my clothes and his clothes wasn’t white! Then he asked me all kind of questions that each question had an agenda. Then he was touching me and measuring his muscle energy against different vials of herbs. He had about 400 different herbs in the room. He placed some of them in the box that had plastic tube pointed toward me, and again by touching me and measuring is muscle straight made a diagnosis that what herbs is good for me. When I asked him about his technique he said: «Trust me, I am doing this for 20 years. I know what I am doing. There s only 70 people in the world that know this technique.»!!
Then they gave me a jar of herbs and told me I should take 5 spoon every day, and stop taking my western medications. To make a long story short, instead of getting better I got worse. By taking his herbs and not taking my regular medication I became very ill but I continue till I finished the herbs. In my conversation with his office when I told them I didn’t get any results and I am worse than before, the answer was to take more herb. Immediately I started to take my western medications and few hours later at least I could function.
Mr. Benschoten is a scam artist. He makes money by pretending practicing medicine that has no diagnostic and therapeutic value. He takes advantage of sick people that did not get proper answer from western medicine.
If you go to his office this is what he will tell you:
* Don’t eat of drink dairy products. No milk, cheese, yogurt, butter and etc.
* Don’t drink coffee.
* Don’t eat leafy vegetables. No salads.
* Remove all amalgam fillings. (He will give you name of 3 dentist, because only few dentist knows how to replace amalgam fillings. He refer patients to them and they refer patients to him.
* Don’t sleep on tempurpedic bed or pillow.
* Check your home for molds.
* Don’t eat or eat very little raw fruits.
And bunch of other things.
Please be aware of him and other people like him that are there to take advantage of people with medical conditions.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Matt’s and his associates for years. We love him! He finds the answers to elusive and chronic health problems and his holistic approach goes well beyond just hammering away at symptoms. I cannot say enough about his ability to heal and resolve a wide range of conditions. The down side to seeing Dr. Matt – that’s easy – it’s the wait! But he is well worth every moment! He has gotten rid of my arthritis, found the underlying answers to my daughter’s nose bleeds and his associates resolved a chronic behavioral challenge of my son’s. We see him for colds, the flu, chronic headaches and backaches (that are no more!). He is truly a blessing to my entire family!

Let me start off by saying… No one solution is good for EVERYONE.
That being said…
I have been going here on and off for 20+ years. I have met MANY people who have a similar story… They have some sort of problem and no one can help them, and after they visit this office they are MUCH better or 100% cured.
I myself have been lucky to not have any seripous issues, but when i have broken bones, gotten sick, or felt low, I have been treated here and I have seen results that are better than any other doctor I have seen.
My Western Medicine «Normal» doctor has commented on my speed of recovery after my accidents and mentioned that he knows its largely in part of the treatments i received at MMVBS.
I can’t say enough great things about MMVBS, as I personally know people who were able to live MUCH BETTER and LONGER lives thanks to the help they recieved here.

I cannot recommend Mr. Van Benschoten (VB) because of his office practices and his office manager. The waits are intolerable. I traveled about 15 miles in LA traffic, so I try to schedule late morning. I know that if I schedule an 11:00 am appointment, VB will see me around 1:00 and I will leave his office around 2:00. This allows me to drive when traffic is lighter, about 20 – 30 minutes. Early or late in the day, that 15 minute drive takes about 1.5 hours (each way!). So, a one hour appointment, including drive time, takes at least 4 hours.
VB is a very intelligent man. There is absolutely no excuse for these long waits.
I must also warn you about his office manager, Faith. She is officious and rude. If she doesn’t like you, she’ll cancel your appointment for which that you have waited 4 to 6 months.
I have spent about $ 3,000 for VB’s services and herbal concoctions. He cleared up my post nasal drip. I came to him for help with my painful peripheral neuropathy. In about 2 years he was not able to alleviate the pain one bit, nor was he able to arrest the progress of the nerve degeneration. However, no one has been able to help the neuropathy, so I will not blame him for the lack of success, but simply to report that his treatments were ineffectual.
I would not recommend that anyone subject themselves to this abuse. It’s just not worth the aggravation.
Also, if anyone is charged for a missed appointment due to this abuse of patients (and not because you forgot!), don’t pay it. If VB should sue, I believe that no court would find in his favor (and he won’t sue because he would have to appear in person, a complete waste of his time. If he dings your credit, sue for defamation. (Guess what I do for a living!)

I did not get to see him. My appointment was at 12 noon but he was running late so I was told to come in at 1. I came in and waited until a quarter to 2 and asked how much longer it would be. They guessed 15 minutes and that my appointment would run 45 minutes to an hour as it would be my first. I explained I had to pick up my grandson at 3:15 a considerable distance away.
I asked to reschedule and they said I would have to pay for a missed appointment although I had been waiting there in their office. I explained that I could not leave my grandson standing outside of his school in an area that has had gang problems. They checked with the manager and told me that him running 2 hours late did not allow me to leave without paying for my$ 250.00 first appointment. I left and will go to small claims court if they do insist on charging me. He may be good but his office policies are terrible.

I am a family doc in San Diego and I have been sending patients all the way to the Valley to see Dr. Matt for over 10 years. I choose patients who have problems that standard medical knowledge cannot understand, such as those with environmental sensitivity, mold illness, and chronic fatigue, or those with problems which have not responded to the usual medical therapies, including neuropathies, bronchiectasis, ALS, various cancers, mono, and recurrent infections. I consider Dr. van Benschoten to be an extraordinary healer. He knows as much about human pathophysiology as I do, and oriental and herbal medicine, diet, and body energetics in addition. In my experience his success rate with complex patients is outstanding.
P. S. He is always in demand and there may be a wait of over an hour to see him. Do not be put off by his intensity and often brisk manner which is only a reflection of his passion to understand your condition.
