Established in 1958.

California Furniture Galleries was established in 1958 as Van Nuys Maple. Our name was changed in 1977 to reflect the evolution of the furniture styles being offered to our clients. Since 1977, we have continued to refine the product selection by adding quality lines such as Century, Bradington Young, Henredon, Berhnardt, FFDM, Hooker Furniture, Fairfield Chair, Theodore Alexander, Lorts, Artistica and many more. Coupling quality manufacturers with our on staff interior designers, we have been able to offer complete solutions to our clients interior design needs.

I have been to the store quite a few times and purchased things from them. What I can say is:
1. I was never pressured to buy anything, ever. When I first starting shopping there, I used to go there quite a few times first just to look, but not to buy. I was always made to feel welcome with all my questions answered. They never hovered over me, but was available.
2. Cheryl, my assigned sales associate, has always been very helpful and knowledgeable.
3. They have quite honestly the largest showroom that I have seen in Southern California.
4. They are the one of the few places for elegant traditional furniture of high quality at reasonable prices. CFG is not Ikea or Urban Home. Yes, they have contemporary furniture too, as that is what people seem to want.
I even like the complimentary water, nice touch.
Complaints:
Their location is no that close to Santa Monica, one heck of a drive to the valley.

My adult daughter represents three generations of California Furniture Gallery Enthusiasts. The bedroom furniture and breakfront my parents purchased decades ago still look new and because of their classic styling, remain fashionable. The quality and craftsmanship of every piece of furniture any of us have ever purchased there is second to none. While it’s difficult to get overly excited about furniture shopping, it’s comforting to know some traditions remain constant. They have always provided us with top quality furniture and a par excellence sales team. The owners are not shy about assisting as necessary either. I like that accountability. Anyway, my last purchase was approximately a few months ago, but I just got around to writing my Unilocal reviews. I’m sure their excellence has not diminished since my purchase. Regarding another reviewer’s comments concerning the neighborhood, I liken them to a diamond in the rough and have never had a problem there.

I have been in here several times with different friends. I think they have great inventory pieces, however for review purposes their markup is high given that you can get the make and model # of the furniture you are looking for and buy it from another retailer shop around to find it online at a greatly discounted price. Additionally, I do not like the high pressure sales environment they have with their commissioned sales staff. High pressure sales are no fun to shop in. Plus, the area of town where this place is in feels ghetto and I worry about my car in the parking lot every time I park in front.
