Description

Specialties

You learned to speak ever before reading and writing. In similar fashion we teach how to speak the language of music before reading or writing it. Key Identity Access™ fosters natural musicianship by acknowledging the creative decision making processes of the brain and providing an atmosphere and curriculum that allows this to flourish.

What is natural music learning in contrast to «regurgitation» learning? The musician Miles Davis said, «First you imitate then you innovate.» Imitation comes by observation of demonstration, not by being told what to do or think. Reading notes on a page offers no room to originate or make seeming mistakes which could become beautiful sounds in their own right.

We book private lessons for children and adults. However, group piano lessons present the following advantages:

Practicing in front of a group throughout the learning process prevents performance anxiety for «recitals».

Students don’t feel like a teacher is «hovering» over them. Observation of other classmate mistakes and successes provides a valuable learning tool.

History

Established in 2015.

Ryan David Dwyer, our founder, always rebelled against «note reading» and favored composing his own music over learning to read music. He compares this to learning to write your own words and sentences rather than being forced to only read a book. At the age of 14 he started formal piano lessons and his instructor, Ron DePuy, decided to foster Ryan’s bent toward composition. Ron equipped him with many essential skills that are needed to be a well rounded musician.

Key Identity Access™ was conceived in 2004 in the mind of founder Ryan David Dwyer. He ran a business selling digital pianos and conducting piano lessons. After doing a summer camp with a popular music curriculum for children age 5, he realized there was a need for a much simpler approach that also gave children much more to learn as well. After meeting an art student who informed Ryan of the color wheel, the idea for Key Identity Access™ took root. After 10 years, the right moment came to create it.

Business Owner

Ryan David Dwyer has a background as a competitive gymnast and gymnastics coach. He even currently teaches from time to time for Metro Gymnastics Center, in Tualatin, Oregon. Actually, his favorite age to instruct is 3 years old and he does quite well at relating to the children and keeping their attention. This carries over to his piano teaching method, Key Identity Access™. Ryan’s love for composition stems from inspiration from his youth, when he was inspired by Hymns and contemporary spiritual worship music. He believes that often in life we create our own imaginary barriers to learning a skill or expressing our creativity. His goal in life and in business ventures is to inspire people to come to the conclusion that, «You’ve had the keys all along!»
