I love this place for lunch or a casual dinner. If you like beer, this place is awesome. The service is good and the bartenders are knowledgable and friendly. Best Irish bar in town.

over serving drunk people while cutting me off after one beer and one shot because of some insecurity about the knowledge of service animals; unprofessional and unwarranted. ive only had good experiences at macgregors up to this point. but mark the bartender seemed to have some sort of issue with my service animal sitting quietly and well behaved next to me. mind you there was only 5 people in the whole establishment. leaving my animal outside in 12 degree weather which is what i assume a self proclaimed animal trainer(that being mark the bartender) would have preferred i do. not only will i not return which im sure the thought of at least mark is one that wont have any impact on this petty spiteful person. but i would hope no one ever brings their animal to mark for training either.

I’ve been to McGregor’s for lunch a time or two and have always been pleased with both food and service(best onion rings I’ve ever had) so we tried them for a party of about 60. Beef, pork, pasta, chicken, Cole slaw, green salad, bread, everything was wonderful. The food was outstanding and there was enough for generous portions and even seconds. The staff were polite, competent, and utterly professional. The only problem we had was with size. Our group was a little large for the party room. With the help of the staff we were able to work that out too. I would not hesitate to book another party there. In fact, if you have one there invite me. I wouldn’t miss it!

Very friendly and they have the BEST selection of beer. They have wine, spirits… Great juke box! But come for the great on tap like 20 beers! Across the street is the wine/culinary center… So just stop by here… Bar staff is great, totally friendly. Local/tourist mix. Casual environment… nice place to stop hubby and I here every night on this trip!

Nine of us showed up at 6pm on a Sunday after being on the lake. It was half empty(at least) but we were told it would be one hour fifteen minutes wait because they had a lot of reservations. We left… there were so many empty tables. I guess they didn’t want at least $ 300+ business. I hope all those people showed up on a Sunday night. I’ve been to this McGregors before and it was ok… but never again. We drove back toward to Rochester and went to Mickey Finns. They were understaffed so the reservations were an excuse.

Always surprised at how mediocre this place is. Great menu and location but the food is just soooo mediocre! Just like an Applebee’s or Friday’s or any other bland chain. Good in a pinch but always worth finding a better option.

I like it here. Other than the bar area smelling a little stale at times(possibly from the endless taps in house. The food is always decent, staff is always on point and beer selection is out of this world.

Not worth going to. So-so food and slow service. Wings so bad I had stomach cramps before I left. I had the chicken Cobb — simply 1 egg, iceberg lettuce, chicken and a tomato. Son had taco salad and it was basically chilly on a bit of lettuce.

Over an hour and no food yet. «The kitchen is backed up from a large group outside on the dock». They could have told us the kitchen was backed up instead of making us sit here for an hour.

My husband and I have a usual place in Canandaigua we like to go to but last night we decided to try something different. After walking in the door we waited for about 6 minutes to be seated. Someone who we thought might be a manager(although he looked pretty young) noticed us and rather than seating us himself went and got a hostess/waitress to seat us. We sat in the dining room side and there was only one other table occupied. They had a great beer selection and the waitress came over quickly and took our drink order. When the girl who sat us brought us our drinks, she couldn’t even tell which was a cider and which was a beer. We ordered the deep fried pierogos which were delicious and I had the Rochester burger and my husband had the special which was a Philly style burger. My burger was good just a standard cheeseburger with meat sauce but my husband’s was bland. It wasn’t seasoned at all and was supposed to have steak sauce on it but didn’t so the waitress brought over a bottle. Our waitress was good but considering there was one other table occupied it was a little slow. Overall not a super terrible experience but not that great either.

Could not believe the amount of taps at this joint !!! The flights of beer and the pirogies were to die for ! I couldn’t get enough of them. And the«local flight» was a group of the best beers from around the area ! Give it a try.

Like the other MacGregor’s. Not a bad place at all. Typical bar and grill with solid food, good for sitting with the family or hanging at the bar.

Our family stopped & dined at McGregor’s recently in Canandaigua, NY. We were investing the day at the beach nearby with some friends and decided to have dinner nearby at McGregor’s. We DONOT recommend this restaurant at all. Every meal the 7 of us ordered off the menu tasted frozen and /or like something you could make at home at a fraction of the cost & effort. There was nothing unique about the food and the presentation /plating did little to distinguish the meal or make it a positive experience. Some of our party’s food was cold, others tasted bland or just outright bad. We were constantly menaced by bees while we dined out on their deck. The area was not clean and appeared as though a good power wash was needed to remove the food debris. This area had a bit of a foul smell, which also did not help while we were eating. The service was mediocre at best and we had to wait on a few occasions just to get drink refills. When a few of us were not eating a majority of the food served, the server ignored the circumstance as if it was a normal everyday occurrence. To add insult to injury the bill was excessive for the poor quality of food & service received. If you’re in the Canandaigua area visiting, look to other options for dining. In fact, stay away from this place at all costs! I’m not certain why so many restaurants lack the ability to execute on the basics. 1. Good fresh, quality food that wants to make you leave home to enjoy it. 2. A clean environment(tables, chairs, flooring, walls, etc) 3. Fast, courteous service 4. Reasonable pricing

Very unprofessional staff. My friend I was with asked the server to send the manager over several times. The server came back and said she asked the manager and he refused to come over. They messed up her order and we were all shocked that after asking for a manager no one would come. First and last time going to this place. Go to the sand bar at the inn on the lake instead.

Much better than Nolan’s or the Wine & Culinary Institute next door. For bar food, and that’s what we’re judging this by here, it’s the best in town and that’s why the 5 stars. They’ve stepped it up a bit. The menu is simple, but they execute it very well. The sandwiches are huge. I’d suggest going for the small($ 9.99) vs the large($ 12.99) unless you’re up or a NY style over the top deli sandwich. I had the hot pastrami with horseradish(very hot and fresh) and dry ale mustard. They cook their own pastrami and it shows. Very flavorful and an absolutely huge sandwich. The beer and ale list was a bit shorter than I’ve witnessed in the past but they had Southern Tier Pumpking on the list of drafts — both 2013 and 2014. Surprisingly, the 2013 has mellowed well without losing anything. If you haven’t ried it, this is the ale to enjoy this fall. Just one tip to the restaurant — when you serve hot meat on bread, particularly a marbled bread like the rye you use, place the sandiches with their cut face down so the bread is not on its side on the plate. That keeps the sandwich from becoming mushy on the bottom and makes for a much more enjoyable eating experience. That’s Restaurant 101. Embrace it. Service was prompt and without flaws. Overall, a very nice job.

Beautiful location but horrible food and staff was not that friendly. Boneless buffalo wings I ordered weren’t cooked thoroughly and waitress had no idea what was on the wine list. I know this is not representative of everyone’s experience but this occasion sucked.

Went her before concert at CMAC on a Friday night. Place was packed, but they managed to get us right in and served quick so we were on time for concert. Really nice tap selection! They have outdoor seating but we took the first available which was inside. My wife got the a pretzel bun with roast beef and I got their Make your own sandwich. Mine was hot pastrami on a Kimmlewick roll! Very good! Decent menu of Bar and sandwich items. They also boast a great fish sandwich as well!

I drove my wife down to Canandaigua yesterday for a quiet lunch and to just get away from Rochester. We’d originally planned to eat at Nolan’s On Canandaigua Lake but found out that they’ve closed to move to a new location. We decide on McGregor’s, even though we have a few of these back home. We were very glad that we did. This isn’t The Inn on the Lake and you shouldn’t expect it to be… it’s a Bar and Grill with a great view out to the lake. The staff is very friendly/attentive, we were greeted by the bartender as soon as we walked in and waited on by a young lady who I think said her name was Kay. It was the middle of the day and slow so we didn’t have to wait long. It was very clean and there were a few other patrons inside already eating. My wife ordered the Haddock Fish Sticks with Fries and I ordered a Build Your Own Burger with fries. Everything was fresh and well cooked. My wife is pretty picky when it comes to fried foods and she said nothing but great things about her meal, which I ate some of because the portions were large. I ordered a ½lb burger well done with Swiss and Cheddar, lettuce, mayo and ketchup. It was cooked perfectly… just the way I like it. If you frequent McGregor’s in Rochester and you want a great view to go along with your meal, you can’t go wrong by taking the drive over spending your afternoon here. I’m looking forward to making this one of my favorite places to eat when I visit Canadaigua. Great customer service and food cooked exactly how you ordered it.

HORRIBLE. We sat there for over 20 minutes, watched the host and waitresses walk past us and didn’t even get waters. Eventually we gave up and walked out after seeing several tables wait forever to get their checks. I’ve been to other locations before and the food was alright, but the attitudes and horrible management aren’t worth it. Go elsewhere.

Two words: Reuben Burger, but more on that later. Really nice taplist. The best you’re going to find in this town. I was here years ago and sat outside and remember the view of the lake being pretty, but this place is still worth stopping at even if the weather is tending towards«frozen wasteland» and not«placid waterfront.» The burger: they call it a Brooklyn burger but it’s literally a Reuben with a burger patty. So: awesome. Burger topped with corned beef, Swiss, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on grilled marble rye. It’s the sort of menu item I might ask other restaurants to custom-make for me sometime in the future when I’m hungry and throwing all designs on healthfulness completely out of the window. Tip: if you split their macho nachos with beef with one other person, neither of you will be all that hungry for your entrees. Lastly, skip dessert. We got their peanut butter pie to go and even after sitting on the counter for an hour it had ice crystals on it. Pre-made, frozen, and contrary to everything else they do: pretty small. Tasted pretty good with some defrosting but not worthwhile.
