Thorpe Auto Detail

People are always skeptical of a place with too perfect of a rating, especially when there are many reviewers with not so many reviews. I took my chance with them anyway and here’s what’s up with this shop.
This is the first time I’ve owned my own brand new car. Over the weekend, google maps had foresaken me during a road trip and took me through an off road service trail (near mt. shasta) that wasn’t made for regular cars. My car was utterly marred with scratches everywhere. I’ve had this car less than a year, and it’s already in this condition. The monday I returned, I searched for detailing shops all over SF and Southbay. I rang the number, and Dave picked up the phone and gave me a quote and said, that we should take a look at it together.
If you’ve never had your car detailed at a shop like this before, just be forewarned that you’re spending a few hundred dollars. Again, this is the first time for me, so after talking with Dave on the phone, I thanked him and told him I would need more time to decide as I was initially a little sticker shocked. I consulted my car enthusiast friends, and turns out the pricing was fairly on point and within a good range. Bonus points that it’s close to work.
I called Dave back and he told me I could bring it in the next morning. Awesome.
So I bring the car in in the morning, and I show him the damage done. He said he’ll do his best and started explaining all the different ways to clean the car, and the pros and cons of different things.
Let me make a note here: There was absolutely NO upsell, which I greatly appreciate.
There was some small talk after, and it turns out quite a few of my coworkers have had their cars detailed here before. Not just that, he remembers many of them in detail — even when its been years since he’s seen them. What a memory!
So I left the car with him at 8:30AM, and he told me he’d give me a ring around 2:30PM. Sure enough, at 2:25, he asked me to come by when I could (he actually said 15min, but I got there a bit earlier). The team was finishing up.
Here is another show of character:
When I approached, he greeted me, and gave me a quick summary with no real detail. Instead, he introduced his young team, and let them explain what they did for me. He basically said, this is the awesome team that did the work for you, they deserve the credit, let them take pride in their service and explain what they did for you. I find this super admirable.
Finally, I paid via credit card, and chatted with them a bit more because the whole team is actually really fun to just talk and hang out with.
Final Note:
My car was actually cleaner with more of a shine than when I first bought it from the dealer. I am highly impressed with the workmanship that this team did for me.

Dave and his team do amazing work, and they are super friendly as well! Great combination. I brought 4 cars to him over the span of 4 days and he went out of his way to help me with logistics, even loaning me a car overnight. And their work is top notch. Definitely hit these guys up!

I brought my Golf R in for a new car prep service, including Opti-​Coat application. Dave’s team did an excellent job and I was completely satisfied. They pointed out a ding that I had already managed to receive either from the dealer or discourteous parking neighbors in the two days since buying. He gave me a card recommending a guy who did a great job repairing my other car’s panel (chose not to do the Golf at that time because it would have involved removing the bumper and I was hesitant if it would develop rattles after reinstall).
He provided a clean loaner car for the half-​day it took to perform the service which was super convenient. It was such a great service and experience that I brought him my wife’s GMC Acadia this April when she made her car purchase. I highly recommend his detailing service and I will be a continuously repeating customer!

I wasn’t sure it would be worth the money, but it really was. My car looks like a million bucks. I have never seen such attention to detail. This may be the first place I have encountered that cleaned my car like it was actually their own. Every corner inside was spotless, the interior looks fresh and healthy, and the exterior looks brand new. Plus, the owner made sure I was totally happy. Definitely worth the money.

These guys do amazing work! I took a filthy car covered with track debris and gunk all over, with a neglected swirl-​marked paint job, and they got it to look brand new! The car shines like it hasn’t in years, inside and out. They use great products so that the outside looks deep and shiny, while the inside simply looks clean and brand new. I’ll definitely come back here in the future.

I took both my cars to Dave. One was brand new and got the works including the opti coat. The car looked better than when I bought it. I also brought in an 8 year old car that had not been detailed in YEARS. Dave and his team did such a fantastic job I felt like I drove away in a new car. Dave also understands a busy schedule and is very accommodating with a loaner car and flexible hours. His team is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The prices are high but well worth it. I highly recommend Thorpe Auto Detail!

Dave has an awesome business. Don’t waste your money at Classic Car Wash for detailing your vehicle. This place really does a good job & I’m usually very picky about my vehicle. I had just bought a new car & it’s black, knowing how hard it is to keep it clean I looked up Auto Detail shops & was really impressed with the reviews. I called Dave & he asked me a few questions about the vehicle & we set up an appointment. The day of my appointment, he looked at my vehicle & told me after they washed it & saw the paint he would call & tell me what they recommend for my car. He gave me the keys to their brand new rental! He called me 45 minutes later & talked to about a few options. I dropped off my car at 9am & it was ready by 2pm & looked & felt beautiful! Not 1 imperfection or water spot! They even scotch guarded the interior. I’m so pleased, the friendliness & work is ¹⁰⁄₁₀. I thought it was awesome he gives his customers a rental because even when my car is getting serviced there’s no rental. Definitely will keep coming here. It’s more pricey but you definitely get what you pay for.

Dave and I have chatted over the phone a couple times to prepare as I was waiting for my car to be delivered. When I received the car, I immediately called Dave to schedule a time for a new car detail and opti-​gloss to protect it. The interior trim and leather would also be protected as a part of the package.
When I picked up my car, I was impressed with how great it looked and the attention to detail. It looked better than new. The guys walked me through the car and we chatted about their process. I got tips on how to maintain the look and Dave even followed up with a call to make sure all my questions were answered and that I was happy with the service.
I have to give this team the best rating that I could. If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would. The products Thorpe Auto Detail uses are the best in the industry (just ask them and search on the autogeek forums). And you get personalized service catered to your needs. That enough will make me a repeat customer.

First of all, let me start by saying the guys at Thorpe are some of the most down to earth people you will ever meet. I got the optimum gloss coat detail and they made the process so easy. Dave is awesome he really has a passion for what he does and you can tell by the way he explains everything to his customers. Everything turned out great, my car looked amazing after they were all done with it. Glad I came to Thorpe Auto Detail, great group of people and I highly recommend them for all your detailing needs.

Dave really cares for his customers and spent an hour educating me on proper ways in which I could maintain my new car even though the service isn’t provided by them. He would also refer me to different detailers when the particular service I was looking for isn’t provided at Thorpe. Definitely would recommend them!

:The Classic Car Wash TRIED to sell me on their cheaper car coat. Last time I washed my car (when there were NOT even customers there) I ask them to dry it well because I wanted it to be water spot free when I dropped it off to get coated. They couldn’t even get that right! :
SOOOOOO happy I paid a little bit more money for perfection instead of taking it to a place that can’t even get it half way dry after a simple wash.
My car was also ready in 24 hours. They even let me drop it off Sunday AND were kind enough to come over on their day off and put it in the shop overnight so they could work on it monday.
I can not recommend this place enough. Spend a little bit more for perfection and the peace of mind that you can TRUST the people working on your car.
They even offered me a less expensive option that lasts 2 years in case I couldn’t afford the one I really wanted. I think it is awesome when businesses help you choose what is right for you instead of pushing you toward the most expensive choice.

My 2013 Cadillac XTS looks BETTER THAN NEW, after Dave and the crew applied the Optimum Gloss Coat to my ride. Has been about a month, so. freakin. easy. to towel off after a wash. The water beads up and goes away just like that!!!

Want to keep your car looking gorgeous? This team knows what they’re doing. After the full Dave treatment of detail and Opti Coat my Benz looks better (inside and out) than when I bought it from the dealer 7 weeks ago. Worth every penny.

Dave and his team are superstars! I recently purchased a new Subaru and I’m glad I found this shop to help with a new car prep and an Opti-​Coat application. New cars don’t come out of the dealership without their share of imperfections. The folks at Thorpe Auto Detail were able to correct the imperfections and made my new Subaru looking even better. The Opti-​Coat is amazing as it adds further depth to the paint. Their customer service was on point and they were not shy to educate me about their detailing and product application process. They even gave me a care kit filled with detailing swag to take home. Big props to Dave, Daniel, Bejean and team!

After almost two years from my last Opti-​Coat application, I started to spot hard water rings showing up after washes that wouldn’t go away. And I thought, maybe it was time to give my BRZ some TLC. Dave and his team at Thorpe redefined the meaning of clean. I went in just to get my engine hood Opti-​Coated after a new clear bra and for removing the hard water spots. Since I had no way to get to work after dropping off my car, Dave was awesome enough to lend me his new loaner car until they finished. When I came back to pick up the car, it was phenomenal! I’ve never seen my car (with black metallic paint) so sleek and glossy! The shine was absolutely blinding. Bejean and Daniel spent hours claying and polishing up the whole car, I even got a few extra panels Opti-​ed. These guys really know detailing as it should be done and it won’t be the last time I’m going there.

My friend recommended me to go there to put opti-​coat for my new car. It’s more expensive than wax but since I don’t have time to wax the car so I just did it anyway. Turned out opti-​coat is so much better than wax. Not only water and dust won’t stick on the surface but it forms a hard transparent layer which protects the car so well. And here is the story: The week after I got opti-​coat, I stopped by Costco and grab a few bottles of wine (I know, shouldn’t park a nice car in Costco…), and when I came back, I saw a scratch on the front bumper. Thanks to the opti-​coat it wasn’t really obvious but you can see some paint left on it. I called Dave right away. He told me to bring the car to the shop and he fixed it by removing the damaged opti-​coat and reapply it back. I am so glad that I put opti-​coat otherwise whoever did it would just get the paint off and I have to repaint the bumper.
Another nice thing is that I don’t really need a car wash, just water will just clean the car 90%…
I am very happy with Dave’s service and I will come back when I buy another car.

Incredible detail work! My 2006 Magnum SRT8 never looked so nice (see the Thorpe Unilocal photo). It really has a showroom shine inside and out. They managed to remove one clear coat scratch that I thought would never come out. Awesome work!
