Onyx Protective Services

We pay for only 2 walk-​troughs nightly and are lucky to get even one a month if any. How hard is it to walk in a circle once or twice, look around, take some notes, pull on a door handle or two and go to your next site??? The daily reports are a lie… same ‘all clear’ status everyday when they don’t even come to patrol in the first place or they’d notice several issues to report. I know they don’t stop by because I also have surveillance cameras throughout the property! What is worse is that my property is just a couple blocks from their headquarters and they still cant even make 1 visit nightly. This company is unethical and will take your money monthly and not complete the service that they are offering you. I do not recommend them to secure anything you might value.

We live in a small community of 18 house and hire Oynx to watch for cars that illegal park in our one way street to avoid any farther mess in our neighborhood after 10pm. They did a great job when Attore was still in charge but lately they have not been doing their job. They would sometime drive in and drive out of our complex and not even check the cars and even lie on the report that they have done their round correct. When I do call the security they come like one or two hours later and still don’t do their job. Reason why I know. I would watch them from my window to see if they are doing their jobs. Some days I would notice a car that illegal park on our property and see if it get tow that night but guess what the car still there the next morning. And when I read their report for that night it stated that they have check all the cars and found nothing wrong. Lie, lie lie. You can’t trust their service anymore. Just like everything else it was a good service but turn to crap. Our HOA is canceling our contract with Oynx. Maybe we are a small complex but do what you been paid for Oynx.

Very poor customer service and lazy and/​or Incompetent guards. I live in a gated community in Campbell and this is the security company our leasing office chose. We’ve had several Instances with guards sitting in the parking lot for hours. I took my dog for a walk and saw the guard sitting in his car, parked in a corner, with earbuds on. Walked my dog again two hours later and he was still there, same place, earbuds still in. I figured the odds of him driving around and then just happening to be in the exact same spot two hours later pretty slim. Called the number we were given to contact the company and the first time I got through, I told the dispatcher what had happened and if I could speak with a supervisor. She told me that was fine, and would transfer me. As soon as she did, she had actually hung up on me. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe she’d accidentally hit the wrong button, but when I called back, she sounded exasperated and hung up again! I gave up after that.
In another instance, a guard almost got into a fist fight with some neighbors. The neighbors were having a get-​together on their patio that had gone too late. The guard showed up at 11pm and told the party to wrap up and he’d be back in 15 minutes to check in. The women at the point began cleaning up the food and drinks outside and starting to get the guys to go inside. The guard returned 5 minutes later and was extremely confrontational. He nearly yelled that he’d told them to pack it up. One of the girls told him they were and the guard continued to escalate the situation, saying loudly that they better get inside «or else», while also walking towards the people on the patio in an aggressive manner. He started yelling at the party, still moving aggressively, and kept saying «You better get out of here, or else. I can make you all leave!» Again, all this was said while he was advancing on the group. One of the girls kept repeating they were cleaning up, even holding up plates as they were being thrown away. The guard kept advancing, still shouting, until he was a foot away from the patio. The guys felt he was being so threatening, clearly looking for a fight (I guess he was bored), that they told the girls to go inside and get ready to call the cops. The guys kept telling the guard the party was clearly over, and if he kept coming like he was, 911 would be called. Some words were exchanged but when the guard saw one of the girls on her cell phone, he stormed off. The whole experience lasted no more than 10 minutes but was pretty scary. Several of those at the party called Onyx dispatch again and reported the incidence. Again, the dispatchers sounded annoyed and said no supervisor was around but they’d try to pass the message on. That was all we heard about that.
Overall, our experiences with this company have been very unprofessional, downright frightening in one situation, and a company that seems to care very little about their clients or customer service. Hopefully this behavior is limited to just out complex, but it is still enough for me to warn anyone considering hiring the company.

I’d give em a 0 star if I could due to a security guard who was blocking me in from getting in my gate. Was on call at work that night just arrived home and needed to get to sleep after working 13 hour shift. Finally after he moved enough for me to edge on through gate he decided he wanted to harass me, a resident of the complex he was «protecting» lol. So he reversed his vehicle and starts telling me he doesn’t care about my vehicle but I should be wrecking the property. Had no clue what he meant. Could have been me putting my car in revers too fast cuz I thought he was going to to turn the way my vehicle was. Told him don’t have time for his shit and he tells me «that’s wha I thought» Maybe if he hadn’t been worrying about me so much he would have seen the door to from of complex was not even locked and it was wide open. Lol grey security service.

I had a great experience with an onyx guard helping me find my car last night.
After I read some of the reviews by what it looks like are disgruntled employees I was wary for a second to leave this review but leaving negative reviews about your former workplace seems highly unprofessional so I figured let er rip.
My friend had borrowed my car and left in a garage with terrible instructions how to find it. The guard spotted me and I’m sure probably thought I might be a car thief so they approached me and asked me if I needed help (my guess a nice way to see what I was doing there). After a little chit chat he let me in the car and drove me around to find it instead of me walking around like a crazy person. He was well equipped and seemed to have a sharp eye not like most security guards I see that are 16 yr Olds with a walkie-​talkie. I had to go to a meeting and without his help I would have been really late. Thanks again and I called your dispatcher to thank your manager too. Keep up the good work!

I consulted for a gated community in San Jose, Ca. This is a community if hi end condominiums with a 24 hour guard located at the entrance. We had our original cameras installed 6 years ago. We sent out a RFP for an upgraded system to a few companies in the SJ area.
Onyx Professional Services professional approach to our project combined with the knowledge they shared on how best to improve our system was instrumental in our decision.
Auttore was hands on from the beginning. He met with our security team and outlined how best to cover the areas of concern. Pool and Spa were a priority.
The team completed the job in 6 days. One of the days was a delay created by us due to the need to upgrade our internet connection. That night the guards discovered a few adjustments that needed to be made that only under cover of darkness could be discovered. The team was out the next morning making the necessary adjustments.
Bottom line this is a company who provides the best possible service. They fill every promise made and more. Our expectations were exceeded on every level. I would be happy to recommend them to anyone looking for security. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Feel free to contact me if you need a recommendation.

I’ve been really happy with Onyx Protective services for the past 2 years. The guards are always professional and on time. If I have ever had an issue or a last minute request, I can literally call at any time of the night or day and receive excellent customer service. Recently i had a sudden issue come up and They had guards sent within 15 mins after placing a call to an account exec. It’s safe to say I am extremely pleased with my relationship with Onyx Protective Services and recommend them to everyone.

I referred them to several builders and architectural firms in San Jose (Maggetti, Nazzal, Maurice Scott & Associates LLC– MSA Architectural, Habitec Architecture and Planning) who had commercial and celebrity home site projects… they were extremely grateful for the hands on professional property PROTECTION! As a commercial property manager in Washington DC, Temecula Ca., San Diego Ca., Newport Beach Ca., and San Francisco Ca., ONYX PROTECTIVE SERVICES is the Property Management is THE PERFECT RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL FULL SERVICE Security company. I do not understand the previous negative reviews, but I can be reached privately if anyone would like further information. The owner is a hard workingman, who is available ²⁴⁄₇.
The owners are good natured and have built their proven business on years of hard work, high end professionalism and only employ an experienced team that pride themselves on detail and prompt responsiveness to the property owners and tenants alike. Their book keeping methods are virtually flawless and stand out from other companies in this department as well. I WOULD GIVE 5+++ STARS TO THIS COMPANY AND IF YOU OWN A SINGLE UNIT OR ARE A MULTI PROPERTY OWNERAND THINKING OF MAKING A CHANGE, I would definitely stop by and meet this great team and see how they can help your investment dollars grow with the newest technology combined with old fashioned service and know how!!! These guys are great. They do what’s necessary when you need them and don’t do unnecessary work to add cost. Well worth the money, and when we shopped around all of the property management companies charged about the same, but these seemed by far the best. So far they have proven to be great! I used to love this company. I picked them to take care of our park and I thought they would be a good fit. But in the last month of service, I have had a ton of NO shows. And stops they never really showed up for, but said they did. I guess guards get to conformable of their jobs. Even after all the No Shows they still have their jobs (Not sure why). Unless the company is overworking there staff, and they don’t have time to get to everyone. But 1 stop out of 4 is horrible. Of course they charge you for them until it has been brought up. I wish we have been checking sooner, who know how long this has been going on for. And when they did stop they didn’t even check if everything was secure. I had the pool left unlocked and people drinking in it at mid-​night one of the nights. Thankfully we have cameras and they don’t lie. Also I asked that those guards no longer work on my property but they still did for a while. I’ve left voice mails in the past to our main contact. and wouldn’t hear back from him. (More than once) Until I sent my 30 day to cancel services and he e-​mailed me back. Also been told that an supervisor would be at my park to pick up parking violation notices on a certain day and he was a No Show as well. And he didn’t even call to let me know something came up. I would no longer recommend them to anyone! At least they let me cancel before my required 30 days were up. Due to continued problems.

Sent me one more spam today. I am going to write an updated 1-​star review each time I receive a spam from these guys!

(EDIT) I received a Unilocal Message from someone at Onyx apologizing for the spam emails, and have assured me that they will be stopped.

I recently opened a new retail location, Nutrishop, in Mowry East Shopping Center, in Fremont. During the weeks before opening I spent a lot of time there late into the night by myself. The security guard ALWAYS made sure to check that the doors were locked and I was doing ok. Anytime someone else was in the building other than myself, he always took the time to make sure they were supposed to be there. I am VERY impressed with Onyx Protective Services.
