History

Established in 1956.

As we look back at this history of our business, providing over 50 years of Bay Area Pest Control service, we take a look at where we began.

Phil Olavarri, one of our company founders, was a pilot in the European theater in World War II. He and thousands of other servicemen came to know well the slogan of the war — «Kilroy Was Here» as it was drawn by Americans upon convenient surfaces across Europe (early graffiti). When Phil and his wife, Norma, were looking for a name for their new business in 1956, they realized the little man looking over the fence proclaiming «Kilroy Was Here» was a popular figure.

So they added another «L» to the name (since kill-​ing bugs was the business) and they were on their way to soon becoming one of the pest control leaders in our valley.

President Lynn Olavarri is a second-​generation proprietor of Killroy Pest Control. Her mother and father established the company in 1956, and she says she’s proud to continue their tradition of always putting customers and employees first. «From the very beginning, this company has been about providing quality pest control treatments at fair prices. Respecting our customers’ properties and giving them custom-​tailored programs that address their needs have been the keys to our success.»

They came at the time they said they would. They wore the booties over their shoes. They did the job and answered all questions. I then called back with a question from a neighbor and they kindly answered without a sales pitch. I think they are trustworthy.

I am not surprised that this company was just as great as their first impression. Steve squeezed us into his busy schedule a day after I first called so we wouldn’t also get colonized by the millions of ants in our ant-​pocalypse. Steve saved the day. He was prompt, worked fast, gave us his cell in case the ant zombies resurrected themselves. He also was very conscientious about our dogs and explained how the product wouldn’t hurt them. He is a dog lover himself so you know he is a great guy. Thank you to Steve and Killroy!

I called Killroy for my roach problem. They sent a technician the next day. No waiting time. Super fast service.
Frank was an experienced technician. He knew what he was
was completely safe for us to live in the house while he was treating the roaches.
They told us to call back after 3weeks if we still see them. I only saw a couple and I called back. Frank came right away and took care of it without any extra charge. Now they’re completely gone. Thanks Killroy !
I would recommend this business to anybody who need their help. You can trust their service.

We’ve used Killroy several times in the past years — for ant spraying, a termite inspection, and some other stuff. They are *great*. This week I had an ant invasion and called them up, and they were able to send out Ricky the next day (yay!). He had also helped us about a year ago. He uses «eco spray» all around the outside of the house for the ants — it’s some sort of oil that is safe for my kids/​cats and smells nice, like vanilla. He did our house thoroughly and efficiently, took care of the ants and the black widows, and even removed a dead rat he found on our property (thank you Ricky –it was so kind to take care of that for us! ugh!). Truly great customer service. Definitely will continue to use Killroy.

Killroy has been servicing my home and the landscape since July 2013. Definitely a very effective service when we were assigned to David Flowers.
Besides the usual spiders and ants, he took care of a serious gopher issue as well.
During Oct-​Nov 2014, some of my neighbor’s lawns were destroyed by wild boars. However our lawn had been treated by David, and he assured us that we had nothing to worry about.
Feel very happy when people are so knowledgeable and know what they are doing.
David has been re-​assigned to another job, … so we are keeping our fingers crossed that the next person is equally amazing.

I knew nothing about exterminators, but Killroy was the only company I could get to come late in the day, which was needful. As it turned out, they also have a division that uses the least toxic substances (plant derived oils) to kill wasps. This was exactly what I would have sought had I known something like that was available. Lauren was professional, knowledgeable, and cordial. She completed the job quickly and reviewed with me what she had done. She also took time to answer my questions and gave written materials on the substances used. We hired Killroy to fumigate our house for termites. Killroy doesn’t do this work directly, but subcontracts with a fumigation company. Our dealings and payments were to Killroy, so I’m placing this review here.
Before the work, I had concerns about the roof tiles and plants, so about a week before the work was done, a supervisor, John, came out to walk the site with me. He was great – advising me on how to protect the plants and describing the precautions they take when walking on fragile roofs.
I was kept well-​informed about the appointment to tent the house, and the crew arrived on time – they were both professional and courteous. I didn’t stay to watch the entire operation, but it was clear that their performance was in line with the expectations John set. In the end, the plants came through ok and no damage was done to the roof at all.
The fumigation was performed and the tent came down on the expected day. That morning, I got a call from John explaining that openings in the tent had been cut in two places. The house had been vented of the Vikane gas the previous day and someone broke into the house overnight. The supervisor on site texted me photos of the cuts, then called to discuss the state of the house.
When I arrived later that day, I discovered that most of our possessions had been rifled through and a few items, worth about $ 1000, were missing. I was told that standard procedure is to lock the doors and windows while the house is under the tent. There was no sign of forced entry, though a screen had been removed from one window. The Gilroy police took a report, but it’s unlikely the items will be recovered. The contract with Killroy (or their subcontractor) specifically states that they are not liable for theft. I nevertheless asked if they would compensate us for the loss, but they declined – understandable, but disappointing.

Killroy Pest Control are my go to pest inspectors. Mike Flowers Senior is the BEST and most honest inspector I have worked with in the last 15 years. They fast, knowledgeable, and their reports are excellent. One of the things I have always liked about Killroy is that they do not do everything in house. A lot of other inspectors I have worked with double as contractors and will insist you use them to make repairs. Killroy always gives me excellent recommendations for outside contractors and does not insist that we use them for anything other than the inspection. Their integrity and honesty are the reason I keep coming back.

I have used Killroy for over 20 years and they are the best in the business. Ken Macedo has been my tech during that time. He has held my hand through ants, catching rats, and most recently a possum under my mobile home. He has been available nights and weekends, etc. He has always been very thorough, caring and an expert in his field. Ken is a real class act. I would recommend Killroy to anyone as they are truly number one.

Pest control tech Daniel came out to assess a rodent situation, and his advice and plentiful suggestions spared me from spending a possibly endless amount of money on bandaid fixes. This is a second time that I am applauding personnel that Killroy employs for delivering so much value for the money spent — the first Killroy visit was only for ivy-​removal pricing, and yet a lot of advice was given on that ordeal as well.

We have been a customer of Killroy for 7 years for quarterly pest control. They are always courteous, on time and do an excellent job. Just recently we refinanced our home to a VA loan which required a Termite inspection and we needed work done. Killroy sent Michael Flowers to us and he did an excellent job on the inspection. The repairs and treatment seemed overwhelming but he was very helpful in explaining to us what needed to be done. We were able to contact him directly with questions throughout the process and we passed the inspection no problem.
I highly recommend Killroy for both pest control and termite problems.

Rick, Ricky, Spiderman, whatever you want to call him, he’s there. Rick loves what he does. He’s been with Killroy for a long time and is extremely knowledgeable. A few years ago, we had a bee problem. He took care of it and as he was going around the house, he explained the bee process to me. This time around, we had a rat problem. I say HAD because now we are rat free. Same thing though. He took the time to explain everything to me and even pointed out where the rats were probably entering the house. Rick’s professional but still fun. He has a spider hanging in his truck as a copilot. He’s punctual, calls before he arrives and gives me a 1 – 2 hour window. Rick’s also not sales-​y or trying to scare me into extra products. In a world where everyone is trying to push their service, he’s honest and trustworthy.

We have used Kilroy on several occasions since we bought our house 5 years ago and they are hands down the best! We’ve had them spray for a wasp problem, ants, and one time for bees… in our house! I think it was Don, and he came by at 5pm on a Friday eve because I was frantic that bees were coming down our chimney! Problems always solved first time out & the most courteous group of guys! We’ve used Killroy and have found them to be responsive and very helpful. Andrew serviced our home for the past 4 years and was great to work with. He identified bug issues and controlled the ants, which are rampant through our neighborhood. Most recently, Lauren took over our account using the sensitive solutions. Her latest application has worked really well and the ants have stayed away. The Eco friendly solutions are doing just as well for us as the normal applications and having two small kids makes this option even better. Lauren is very courteous and professional and we’ve had a great experience with her. I highly recommend her and Killroy to keep the bugs under control.
