Fast Smog

Fast, friendly and affordable! Was in and out in about 20 minutes. They have me a certificate and also sent it directly to the dmv.

I love this place. Fast, reliable and BS free. I have dealt with other «service station» smog places and always leave in a pissed off mood. Fast Smog has taken care of me every time without the BS.

Five stars all around. Clean, fast, honest, competitively priced and I get to leave feeling good about having supported a «locally grown» business owner which is something that’s incredibly important to me, as someone raised in Campbell myself. All of my family’s cars have and will continue to come here for all of our smog needs. Thank you guys for the last decade’s worth of great service and hopefully for decades more to come!

There was no wait and I was in and out in around 15 minutes. The price was lower than any of the competition that I checked out.
A great place to get a vehicle smogged

I stopped by Fast Smog on recommendation by a friend who had experience with them before.
I talked to Eric who was a really nice guy. They had recently expanded to include the space next door so thighs were a little disorganized. Eric told me that his equipment needed to get serviced and that he couldn’t take my car that day and that he had a waiting list of people he was going to call back the next week for their smog appointments.
Eric was nice enough to do a pre-​test for me free of charge to give me an idea of whether or not I would pass when I came in next week and gave me a few tips on things I could adjust to get my car running better.
Two weeks go by and I get no phone call so I call them up and I speak to Eric again. He asks if I had been there before and I said that I stopped by two weeks ago and was expecting a call back. I remind him that I was referred by his existing customer. He asks if there’s any aftermarket parts on the car and I state that I have a CARB legal aftermarket intake but the sticker is damaged from wear and tear over the years. At first Eric says he understands and that it’s common for damage to occur but is firm on making sure that everything is by the book. I told him I could put the original factory parts back on. Eric says that will be fine but then changes his mind and flat out refuses to smog my car.
I ask why the run around, especially after doing the pre-​test for me and taking my name and number down to schedule and appointment then never call me. Eric claims that I did get called. I tell him that I didn’t and maybe he took the number down wrong. Eric is adamant that he did call me back and that I lied about who I was and that I am an existing customer. I remind him that I was not an existing customer but a referral from an existing customer.
Eric continued on his narrative that I lied about being someone else, that he had called me back even though he couldn’t tell me what that conversation consisted of and that he wasn’t going to risk his livelihood by doing business with someone who lies.
He goes on to say that he can only take in a few older cars at a time because it would look suspicious if he smogged more older cars than newer cars, which makes no sense since clearly there are more old cars in existence than new cars, and that he’s not going to risk his neck for me.
I ask him why he changed his mind and why he didn’t just tell me that he couldn’t smog my car when I visited his shop two weeks ago so I didn’t have to waste my time. I asked him why he bothered taking my information down to schedule an appointment then. Eric responds with that I must have been posing as an existing customer such as my friend and that I must have lied about who I was. Which again makes no sense because I told him that my friend referred me and that I am not my friend, he took down my name and number for the appointment, not my friends.
I’ve never dealt with customer service this bad before. Eric was super hostile, defensive, and paranoid as if he was on something.
Don’t go here, they are really shady and two faced.

This was my second and very pleased visit to Fast Smog. I was in and out in within 20 minutes! I most definitely recommend Fast Smog to everyone who wants professional and efficient service!

Here is a summary of my experience:
I do not trust FAST SMOG.
FAST SMOG charges you extra for a «certificate.»
Other shops have a flat rate.
FAST SMOG smoged my car knowing it failed a visual inspection!
There are other places to get a smog test for WAY less, some locations provided below.
If you do need your catalyst converter changed, I recommend «Babe’s & Lighting Muffler and Brakes.»

When I arrived.
The employee first asks me «Do you have a after market cat?»
I am not a car person so I told him,
«My car is all stock, I’ve only had regular car repairs done.»
So he proceeds to do the smog test and notifies me that I failed.
When I asked why, he said that I have an after market cat that is illegal.
Then I asked «What is a after market cat?»
He said «Catalyst Converter.»
I said, «Around 2006 my car stopped running and took it to a shop, the mechanic said it was because of a clogged catalyst converter and replaced it.»
He said, «They replaced it with an illegal one.»
So I was charged $ 71.75 for the smog, and was told that I could resmog for about an additional $ 25 plus around another $ 10 for a smog certificate.
I went home and did some research and discovered that around 2009, to improve air quality, California passed a law that only California certified catalyst converters could only be used in California, this would be enforced during a smog test. The way mechanics know which catalyst converter’s are certified is because each catalyst converter should have a number (EO #) on it.
When I read my FAST SMOG paperwork again, I noticed in the comments that it stated «No EO #». I then realized that I was charged $ 71.75 for him to basically look under my car for this number. Instead of informing me of this news, he proceeded to smog it knowing that I was going to fail the visual inspection.
How did my car go unnoticed for so long? It’s because my car was passing the smog test, just that it did not have a California approved EO# on the catalyst converter. I guess California law semantics. That meant past technicians were not doing the visual inspection and assumed that since my car was passing the smog test, it was fine.
I shopped around and finally found a affordable place to replace my catalyst converter.

This place gave me the most affordable price I could find.
$ 350 dollars to replace my catalyst converter with a California approved one.
So now my catalyst converter is replaced and my registration is past due.
However, every time I try to go to FAST SMOG, they are closed. This is strange because their site says they should be open. I tried at 4pm, I tried at 3pm another day. No luck.
I finally just gave up and decided to take it to another place.
I went to

and was quoted $ 50 flat for the smog test
I explained the technician my story and he looked up the EO # but his computer had an outdated catalyst converter list so he said he was sorry, that he really wanted to help me but couldn’t because he had an outdated after market catalyst converter list.
I then went to
337 East Hamilton Ave, Campbell, CA
and was quoted $ 61.25 flat for the smog test
I explained the technician my story and he looked up the EO # on his computer and verified that it was the right one. He ran the smog test and I passed.
In conclusion:
I do not trust FAST SMOG.
There are other locations that are WAY cheaper.
FAST SMOG charges you extra for a «certificate».
Other shops have a flat rate.
If you do have an illegal catalyst converter, I recommend «Babe’s & Lighting Muffler and Brakes»

The rest of the reviews are right! Nothing new in my review, just the same old «great service and super fast» that you see in the other reviews. It took about 10 min all together.

My experience was excellent. I went at around 1pm on a Monday and all was done in 10 minutes. Friendly service guy too.
The parking lot was pretty full but I found a spot before I checked in. The «regular» price is $ 70 but he gave me a discount when I mentioned Unilocal and the final cost was $ 50. He mentioned that most people come in with a coupon.

Fast Smog is an appropriate name. It’s easy to find right off of Winchester. Within 10 minutes I was in and out. Since it was raining it wasn’t a busy day. Erik the owner was super nice, funny and helpful. The office is clean and there’s seating and magazines to hangout while you wait. Came out to $ 50 with the check in discount. Would definitely go back again.

My normal place was closed so I tried this one off Unilocal,called ahead to make sure because it was close to closing time and the guy said no problem.
In less than 15 minutes my car was smogged and ready.

Fast service. This was a bit of a drive for me but went here due to good Unilocal reviews and it was worth it. They had a coupon online which they honored.

Awesome shop. Clean waiting area that is not very large and sits about 7 people. Water and sodas in the fridge for $ 1. Service was very professional and helpful (I had some questions). I was in and out in 10 min on a Sat at noon.
I was looking for a cheap smog check (like everyone else is) and looked at Unilocal and Groupon, etc… and saw those ads for smog check for unreal low prices but after I look at the reviews of those shops I see why 2 – 3 star reviews are for a reason, right. At Fast Smog you pay reasonable price and get great professional service.

My son Joshua Nikoley referred me to Fast Smog. Great service, clean restrooms and nice waiting area. The folks there are customer oriented, friendly and always approach with a smile.
There is also a $ 50 online coupon available. The smog team got me in-​n-​out quickly and went over the charges when we settled the bill.

WOW this is a great place! I was in and out in probably 10mins. The guy who helped me was extremely nice and friendly and the place was clean. I went in around 10 and there was one person in front of me who was paying as I walked in. I really like this place and they have a coupon online, you end up paying $ 50. It was easy to find and there were seats inside to wait the few minutes you are here. I am definitely coming back and referring friends to this place. I also came from North San Jose to this place and it was easy to find and well worth it!!!

We all know how much it sucks having to get a smog, luckily this place makes me not dread getting one! They are so fast & friendly. I went today on a Monday around 3pm. I was in & out in under 10 minutes!!! I printed the coupon online so it was $ 50 out the door, which to me is a reasonable price.
Highly recommend this place for their super quick service!
