Advanced Health Center

I had a painful knee, plus back and neck pain for a long time. I tried cortisone injections, but these provided only brief relief. I went to AHC in March 2016 in response to their ads and their $ 97 offer for an evaluation. I traveled down from S.F., a 55-​mile, 1.5 to 2 hour trip one way, with my husband.
First Visits: On my first visit, they did not examine me, but we listened to a series of lectures and videos by the older brother, Brian, and then they gave us a lunch. The lectures and numerous testimonials on their site and posted in their offices looked promising. We came for a second visit for the actual evaluation. Dr. Jeff took x-​rays and examined me and we met in his office. He sounded very positive, stating that they believed that their treatments would be able to cure my problem. He offered various treatment regimens that were expensive and involved many visits – in the range of $ 10,000 to $ 20,000 and up for dozens of visits. However we didn’t want to commit to such a large amount until we could gain more confidence. He then offered us a six-​visit trial treatment plan for about $ 5000, but said that we could have it for $ 3997 if we signed up that day. We accepted and gave him a check and they gave me the first set of treatments right away.
The Visits: Each of the visits took about three hours or more for the following set of treatments:
1. Oxygen: While getting oxygen from a noisy oxygen concentration machine, I sat at a table and turned a pair of pedals with my arms for about ten minutes to increase oxygen in the blood. It was also done during each of the below treatments.
2. VAX-​D Stretching and Relaxing: AHC apparently uses the VAX-​D machine to provide the main or most important one of the treatments. I lay on a fancy, expensive VAX-​D table about 7 feet long. A harness was attached to my hips and a cable extended down from the harness to a moveable anchor at the foot end. Under computer control, the machine repeatedly pulled down on the anchor and hence the harness to stretch my spine and then slowly released the tension to relax the spine and supposedly create a partial vacuum between the vertebrae to draw the extruded cartilage back in. This stretching and relaxation was repeated for about 15 minutes.
3. Laser: An assistant moved a «deep-​tissue laser» over my knee for about 10 minutes, supposedly to heat the cartilage to cause it to rebuild faster.
4. Knee Decompression: Similar to the VAX-​D machine, I lay on a plain table and a harness was attached to foot and cable extended down from the harness a tensioning machine. It repeatedly pulled down on the cable to stretch my knee joint and then relaxed the tension.
5. «Rebuilder» Electric Pulsing: Electrodes were wrapped around my thigh and my lower leg just above and below the knee and these electrodes were pulsed from a small device called a «rebuilder». The pulses are supposed to cause the bones to vibrate, generating signals which the brain senses and thereupon release endorphins to lessen the pain. I believe that this arrangement is a TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) unit, a well-​known way of treating pain.
6. Electric Current Leg Loop: I forgot the correct name of this treatment but it involved putting my feet in two separate buckets of water and passing a direct pulsating current from one foot to the other via my legs and pelvic area. The current is supposed to have some palliative effect.
Blood Analysis Offer: After about the third treatment, Dr. Jeff called me into his office and said I would benefit from a «Functional Medicine» evaluation, which involved a series of analyses, including metabolic, blood nutrition, hormone, and surface electromyography, for a total cost of $ 2417. I declined this offer.
Summary and Conclusion: After each visit, my knee did feel better for a day or two, but then the pain returned. It was difficult to gauge the level of pain, but at the end there was no lasting improvement. I don’t think more visits would create any lasting improvement and I did not have enough confidence to continue, especially because of the high cost (about $ 666 per visit), the great distance we had to travel, and the absence of any guarantee. While AHC’s literature and the walls of their office contain many testimonials from satisfied patients that claim to have received relief, Unilocal shows many negative reviews, which I should have heeded before spending so much money. On the surface it looks good, but it was useless for me. If I had it to do over again, knowing what I know now, I definitely would not try their services.

Advance medical staff is always so helpful. When my back is giving me pain Dr Jeff always knows where to ajust my back which allows the pain to go away. Thanks to them my life becomes more mobile and more happier. Thanks a lot guys

AVOID THIS PLACE!!! TREATMENTS DON’T WORK. When I came for my first appointment I asked a couple (who were waiting for their treatments with A «doctor’s assistant» (red flag) if they were any better but they both said NO. Now, I am almost done with my sessions too but I feel no difference AT ALL. Not only my knees are hurting but my bank account also. These nonsense treatments caused me OVER NINE THOUSAND U S DOLLARS…
On the first visit, they ask you to bring your husband or wife with you and let you watch an OLD OLD VIDEO… first time in my life to be watching video in a chiropractic office just like watching QVC or HSN please buy me thingy. CREEPY! TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE. It DOESN’T WORK AT ALL… If Unilocalers can leave zero stars, I will give them A BIG NEGATIVE ZERO AS. –0

I was skeptical of this being everyone said that you knee knee surgery and that laser and muscle rebuild that Advance Health Care offers would not help me. Well after only 6 visits I have almost no knee pain. BTW I have had knee pain for over 30 years and had numerous surgeries and injwctions. I am a believer now and for those of you that are skeptical try it and you will see great relief. Alan from Family RV.

Fantastic place! I first came here because my hospital doctor wanted to do surgery for carpol tunnel. Dr. Jeff discovered it was not my wrist but my 5^th vertibrae that needed adjustment. It worked and i never had anymore pain. That was back in 2003.
I returned again because I was in car accident that a person rear ended me and again a few adjustments and I was back to normal life again. That was 2010.
Now it’s 2015 and I went in for a spinal check up. We found a degenerating disc. Glad to find it and help it now before it gets unreversable.

I’ve been coming to see Dr. Jeff since sometime in 2000, from Santa Cruz and now from Hayward. I won’t permit a chiropractor to adjust me with anything other than the activator, and then only if they have advanced credentials. Several in Santa Cruz had those credentials, yet I received no relief from them. Before reading this, you should understand that I’m now 71, so with all the physical trauma from two whiplashes, dancing, hiking, and sitting at a computer to work most of my adult life, I think I’m in pretty good shape for the shape I’m in. Dr. Jeff keeps me out of pain.
When I started coming I had sciatic pain, which I’d had for about 18 years, and that had gotten really bad. I saw their ad for the special traction gizmo they had, and thought I might be a candidate. After an exam and MRI, Dr. Jeff told me that he couldn’t see anything that might be causing that kind of pain, so I asked him what else he could recommend. He gave me some motion XRays and then a sheet of exercises that were so simple I couldn’t see how they’d help, but after doing them for about two weeks, along with the adjustments, the pain went away and now, 14 years later, has never come back.
I continued seeing Dr. Jeff about once a month for tuneups and then in 2006 I was in two pretty bad bicycle accidents. In 2008 saw an ad for another chiropractor in the newspaper describing the itching, stinging, stabbing pain I’d been having in my feet for a few years as something called peripheral neuropathy. I’d never considered that a back issue, and so told Dr. Jeff about the symptoms. He ordered a new MRI, and found a huge bulging disc in my lower thoraxic area that was giving me only 8 milimeters of space for my spinal cord, and the pinching was causing the problem. He recommended that I see a neurologist for a full workup.
I visited my family physician for a referral. He took one look at my MRI and and told me I needed surgery. I said no, that I just wanted the referral. The neurologist I saw gave me a workup and said that all my muscles were still firing satisfactorily, but that if the space closed to less than 8 mm, I’d need surgery.
Dr. Jeff nudged me to get back on the exercises he recommended in 2000, which I’d been neglecting, and recommended that I not let anyone near me with a knife, and not to have any manual adjustments that could make the problem worse.
So since 2000 that’s what I do, along with another exercise program I’ve been doing since 1985 from «The Y’s Way to a Healthy Back» (available on DVD as «Saying Goodbye to Back Pain». I continue with my active lifestyle which includes continuing to work, swing dancing, pilates, swiming and hiking, and continue to get in to see Dr Jeff about every two months, supplemented by seeing a chiropractor in Fremont who does Grafton work (I won’t allow her to adjust me, but she does great work with my muscles and tendons).
Now for the negatives. I’m in the car business, so I recognize an upsell when I see it. I was offered different treatments, but I’ve always been a cash patient, and let them know up front that I wasn’t Ms. Moneybags although in the beginning I would have gone into hock to the tune of $ 5000 to get rid of the sciatica. They did NOT take advantage of that. He let me know in 2008 that it would help me, but now I’m not willing to shell out that kind of money.
I did recently bring in a close friend who was in tremendous pain from a disc problem and they pulled that whole thing of keeping her there for 2 hours and then having her comeback for a bunch of treatments that did nothing for her, and cost her more money. She was very displeased.
I’m sorry that it’s come to that kind of selling technique, and it will probably make me cautious about referring people in the future.
I’ll just say that if you can get past that, and make it clear that you came in for an evaluation by a professional and only appropriate chiropractic adjustment, follow up with those adjustments and the exercises he gives you and be responsible for your own body and pocket book, you can have the kind of excellent results that I’ve had, and that I keep driving 35 or 40 miles for.

I brought my mom to Advance Health Center to see if they can help with her foot and back pain. We thought we can try their «specials» which they advertised in the newspaper, (Laser Deep Tissue Therapy for free). Our first visit, they have us wait for almost 2 hrs to be seen. We then first seen by their patient consultation, Allan who extensively marketing of their treatments plan with us, avoiding telling us the actual cost and went through very little to assess my mom health conditions. After that, we finally seen by Dr Jeff for briefly 5 to 10 mins to ask us come back again for full treatment. I was very skeptical about this and didn’t want to come back. In a week, i received a call from their Patient Consultation, Allan to ask my mom would like to try their special $ 97 for 2 visits for VAX-​D, Deep Tissue Laser Therapy, Oxygen therapy (simply put more oxygen through nasal cannula), and electrical nerve stimulation. I said I give it a try cuz my mom pain has been bothering her a lot. We went in again they have us to watch the 30 min video, advertising commercial info just like many products in QVC or informercial. My mom went through 2 visits without having seen by Dr Jeff, neither he is interested in looking at her X ray or MRI. When we came back thought that Dr Jeff would like to explain to us what’s going on but then we were put in the room to watch another 45 min video. In the video, Dr Brian Coyle who is other owner of the clinic talks mostly about VAX-​D and more advertising of their products. Furiously, I have to stop at the middle of the video cuz I don’t want to waste my time anymore. I went in to see another chiropractor who has more ethic in his medical practice did a thorough exam on my mom and look carefully at her x ray and MRI, won’t recommend VAX-​D on her due to contraindication of her conditions and really there isn’t any huge benefits for her foot pain except end up paying tons of $$$ for nothing. BTW, Advance Health Center charged more than others, about $ 200 per treatment. I would advise people not to go there because this is a poor business and medical ethics clinic who is trying to rip people off. Interesting enough, i was asked by their Patient Consultant to filter the Unilocal’s reviews so that I can only read the 5 stars reviews but PLEASE why would you do so if you know your business has been very consistent with honesty and high quality of care. I decided to tell the truth by writing this review because i feel outrageous when unethical businesses like this trying to take advantage of sick people!!!

I was in terrible pan constant pain after the birth of my second child. Two difficult pregnancies, a bad fall and the strain of carrying two children under 4 and all of their gear rendered me almost unable to walk, barely able to stand and completely unable to live my life or do much for my children. I was in constant pain and miserable. The heavy duty prescription drugs my physician gave me only offered minimal relief and made it almost impossible to care for my family.
I was referred to Advanced Health Center by a friend, after I told her about how bad my pain meds made me feel. Talking to Dr. Jeff was easy. After the first visit, I had a clear idea of what was wrong and what my treatment plan would be. We set goals and talked about how I could prevent future back pain.
Dr. Jeff’s treatment plan for me has been extremely effective. It’s been a few months, the pain is almost completely gone, I sleep better and I am able to work and take care of my active children.
Thee is no need to be in pain when there is such amazing help available!

I am happy to recommend Advanced Health Center, especially to people who are suffering from chronic back, shoulder or neck pain.
Through a treatment plan they created for me — traditional chiropractic adjustments, decompression table, laser therapy, and an exercise program — I am now living an almost pain free life. I get to enjoy many of the activities I thought I’d have to give up. Dr. Jeff Coyle has worked with me to resolve many of my health issues.
Again, if pain is a part of your everyday life, I recommend you talk with the doctors at AHC. They really helped me.

Like many people, I decided to see a chiroprator, even though I was extremely skeptical. I realized that chiropractic would be more of a long term solution; however, I wanted a solution to my severe back pain that didn’t involve heavy duty drugs or surgery.
Before going to Advanced Health Center, I was told that surgery was probably my only option, and it still may not have solved the problem completely. Going to Advanced Health Center is an affordable alternative, when compared to the cost of surgery and the cost of pharmaceutical drugs I would have had to take for severe chronic pain.
If you are looking for a quick fix, then this may not be for you. If you are looking for a Real Solution to Your Pain, then Dr. Jeff is who you should see.
I understand that some people may be skeptical to go see a chiropractor in lieu of an actual doctor. I have gone to both. I would be very surprised if someone still retained such an opinion after spending time with Dr. Jeff.
If you’re leery of chiropractic or have pain that you just live with because you think there’s no other way or no option but surgery, you have to give this a try.

I went here a few times several years ago when I lived in the area. I figured out real quick it wasn’t helping me at all, and I got tired of the hard sells so I quit going. Three years later they’ve somehow gotten ahold of my new address. I now live over 75 miles away from the clinic, so I obviously would not consider going there even if I’d had a good experience. I get mailings from them several times a month and it’s super annoying. I’ve written them and asked me to remove them from their mailing list. Hopefully they will.

I am a current patient at Advanced Health Center. I have been living with neck and upper back pain for years. I thought it was the stress of my job. I retired almost three years ago and was still experiencing the pain despite doing water workouts, exercise and a weight loss program to improve my health. Two months prior to walking into this clinic I had visited a highly recommended neurologist who had decided that he needed to order me a MRI so that he could see if anything was going on. In his best estimate he could see nothing wrong.
My husband and I received a mailing from Advanced Health Center sharing with us their programs and benefits. They had our address because my husband had been to this facility prior to receiving pain relief for his knees, which worked wonderfully.
In addition to neck pain I also have/​had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and no real success with weight loss, painful sinuses and deteriorating eye site.
The neurologist missed the fact that I have bulging/​ruptured discs as well as deteriorating vertebrae which were blocking my spinal cord keeping blood flow and oxygen to important organs such as my heart, thyroid, eyes, sinuses as well as other important organs.
My husband and I first met with Dr. Brian Coyle and discussed my concerns and expectations. We viewed videos that literally took all the guess work out as to what Advanced Health Center had to offer. These videos were very comprehensive and informative leaving little doubt as to the processes that were being offered to help me with my specific problems.
The cost is high but not when it comes to my health. Over the years I have spent an enormous amount of $$$ trying to improve my health. I am sure I have spent this much just on massages and health clubs just to get healthy and or get pain free.
My results are wonderful! If I could say this over and over I would so that no one would misunderstand my intentions. I am still not finished with the program and I went from 8 to 9 pain levels (out of 10) down to 1 (feeling just the essence or presence of what use to be). I am off my high blood pressure and cholesterol medications and many other supplements I thought that I would always need to take to stay healthy. Talk about spending $$$, supplements and prescriptions are outrageous and are only going to get worse!
I have been trying to let everyone I know about my excellent experience at Advance Health Center as well as the excellent care I receive by the all the staff and Dr’s.
i am so convinced that the «root cause» of most health issues may begin and end with our spinal cord and whether or not it has clearance of obstruction so that blood flow and oxygen move freely allowing us to live pain free and healthy.
I only wish I had found this new found knowledge before.

This is a bizarre place. I bought the ‘2 sessions for $ 99.00′ for «the 1^st 24 callers». Well the ad ran for weeks, each caller is congratulated for being one of the top 24. That initial lie should have forewarned me not to go. As others have mentioned, this place felt like a cattle call center/​assembly line. I was there for almost FOUR hours the first appointment, and never saw one of the docs until after 3.5 hours. First you are put in a room to watch videos, this went on for a long time. I didn’t go there to watch videos. I’m well educated about spinal issues, this was a waste of my time.
At one point I met with ‘a consultant’.he did the ‘pre-​sales’ pitch. Who was this man? He never smiled, had a tired, sour look on his face, as did the two twin Chiropractors; they displayed the same disengaged lack of affect. They were void of compassion and warmth, it was all about getting the sale. But, they remained evasive about costs. At the end of my 2^nd visit, I pushed hard for an answer and was finally told the packages are from over $ 3,000 to over $ 9,000. This lack of transparency from the beginning was unsettling and resulted in a complete lack of trust. They won’t let any staff members give you answers about costs. everything gets deferred to the brothers… at the end. Oh, and spouses are asked to join the 2^nd visit to discuss the financial costs and to help sell them on their protocols. In fact, upon leaving, they had a personal letter prepared for my spouse. Slick, but it felt tacky. My husband is an MD, I would not let him get near this shady place, he has a very different set of ethics.
I will say that the office, PT, and MT staff were very nice, and competent, this was the only saving grace about the place. I do hope they pay these kind people decent salaries, though given my collective negative impressions, this is doubtful.
I’ve been to several Chiropractors over the years, this was my worst experience.
These people are not to be trusted, as others have said, this feels like a scam. I should have read these Unilocal reviews before making the decision to go. It is too bad, who knows if the treatment works. I will seek out another DC who does similar work, but will vet their ethics in advance.

I have a moral belief that if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything. In this case, I’d have to think long and hard to say something nice. And I’m so annoyed by the place that I feel I have to warn others.
Let’s just put it this way — I can’t stomach the L Ron Hubbard (Scientology) «technology» being used to run the place. Even if I could, the hard-​sell of expensive extras would have been enough to make me flee.
I would not go back for free.

From the moment you walk in the door you can sense the professionalism of this office. The staff is very friendly and at your disposal. The doctors are caring and knowledgeable and your treatment plan is catered to your needs. I highly recommend Dr. Brian and Dr. Jeff for their unique non-​surgical approach to moderate to severe back pain.

I think this office rocks. I just love what they do. Their machine thing does miracles for bad low backs. I know the guy who owns it, and he really, really cares about the patients, as do each and every one of their doctors.

Don’t waste your time, or money on this business.
The first thing I noticed was the dingy, over all feel to the place. The chairs were filthy! And horribly uncomfortable. What, they can’t even afford to have some decent chairs for the clients/​patients to use while they wait, and wait, and wait???
After about a 90 minute wait, I spoke with some middle-​aged woman who called herself a «case manager.»
Oddly enough, the woman had NO credentials of any kind. I have seen seen that before in any doctors office; where a case manager examines patients.
She was brutish, and has NO business examining patients. That is just ridiculous because she has no clue what she is doing. If I had known about that procedure I would have avoided this business completely! She caused me even more pain prodding and poking my lumbar spine and when I complained she basically shut me off in the room and left me sitting there, waiting for one of the «doctors» to speak with me.
I got to watch an old video while I waited, discussing back pain and how it can be magically cured with some dreadful looking contraption that looked almost barbaric, and believe me, it is barbaric!
Dr. Coyle left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. Not only was he about as compassionate as a stone, but it was obvious that there was only one thing he cared about; money.
Even with a free consult, it was a waste of time.
It honestly felt like someone was trying to sell me a used car and thank goodness a friend was with me, because if I had been alone I probably would have been treated even worse.
Avoid this establishment! It’s a sham!

I sustained an injury in 2004 while serving under Active Duty under the United States Air Force. The pain I endured for 3 years afterwards was very detrimental to my health. Sneezing alone felt as if I could blackout at any instant. During those 3 years I saw 3 military doctors and 4 civilian doctors. Not a single one could give me a proper diagnosis nor cure to my problem. After having x-​rays taken Dr. Jeff Coyle concluded that I had lost most of the curvature in my spine and had subluxation in my thoracic spinal area. Literally after the second adjustment that I received I never felt such pain again.
