A-1 On Track

Note: I did not actually get to have any service done by this company. The communication and response was very poor, particularly from Linda.
1^st call Attempt: phone rang and after someone picked up I was «disconnected»
2^nd call Attempt: I was put on hold. I eventually hung up around 11 minutes in as they never came back.
3^rd call Attempt (30 minutes later): Linda answered and said she had gone to the bank. (while I was on hold??) No apologies given. She immediately told me I needed new closet doors and mine couldn’t be repaired without really finding out the issues of the door. We discussed sending pictures of the closet doors. I sent an email with pictures and asked for confirmation that she received them.
I waited one week without hearing anything back or getting any kind of confirmation.
4^th call (one week later): Linda answered and found the emails I had sent. No apologies for not getting back to me.
She looked at the pictures and immediately said that I needed new doors and she wanted to give me an estimate for new doors.
I really felt annoyed by this experience and disrespected as a customer. I don’t think they took the time to really see the problem or if there was any way it could be fixed. I felt they just wanted more money by installing new doors. That may not be the case but that was how I felt based on my interactions. I’m glad other people have positive experiences and I hope that this doesn’t happen to anyone else. I felt like I completely wasted my time and energy.

The owner and his employee were very friendly, professional, and prompt. It was worth the wait for the appointment. It was an extremely fair price and my door works great!

So Lou and Mark came out to my house to look at our sliding glass door that had stopped rolling. The middle track had completely fallen to the side. They showed up on time (down to the minute) and quickly, expertly fixed our sliding door. And they were very honest about the cost. We were originally quoted a price over the phone of $ 875, but Lou took a look and said that he just needed to replace one piece as opposed to the whole thing and it only cost $ 450. The whole repair including adding new rollers took less than 30 minutes. I will definitely use them again if I ever have any issues with my sliding glass door.

I had a great experience with Lou and his partner today. Their honest approach is refreshing and exemplary. Although they arrived a bit late, they went right to work figuring out why our living room door (french vinyl slider from Milgard, 2 years old) was stuck. I learned our door, while having its quirks, was actually in pretty good shape; the problems we had were related to the hardwood floor expanding/​contracting as well as the material we chose (vinyl). Despite replacing our rollers, lubricating and making adjustments, Lou did not charge for the visit. I truly would not have known better and it’s not often you find someone who is honest, passionate and professional about what they do. I do not have a lot of time or knowledge about doors so finding someone trusted is key. I would not hesitate to call Lou and his crew again to address any sliding door issues we have…

Had a great experience with A-​1 on track. I thought for sure that I would need a new patio door when the latch assembly had pushed back inside the vinyl door enclosure, splitting it (the handle also broke). A new door would have cost me minimum $ 3k. These guys did a super quick, neat and robust repair job, installed a new handle assembly and got my door gliding smoothly for a fraction of the cost. It operates like new. Will use again.

This place is great. My sliding glass door is about 40 years old, always sticks, the lock never worked well. I thought I would have to replace it but just could not afford to. The window is large, about 10 feet long. I contacted the business to see if they could help me out. They called me back right away and scheduled someone to come out. They were pretty busy but I was happy to be put on the schedule. They had an opening and called to se if I was available early. I said yes, of course. They came out at the scheduled time. Very professional, friendly and quick. They assessed the problems right away, fixed everything in about an hour and now I have a perfectly working sliding glass door!!! YEA! They are coming back with a new screen door later. It’s like a whole new window, I would highly recommend them.

Used them again on July 11, 2015. They performed yet another miracle, this time on a 1969 sliding glass door that also ended up having a bent frame. They fixed EVERYTHING and now the sliding glass door glides easily and is like new.

Fixed the sliding door on my closet where the rail on the bottom was bent and the door jumped off the rail each time it was moved. Replaced it with a double rail so the door won’t jump off and slides beautifully. Costly but arrived early, fixed the problem quickly, work area was left clean and tidy. Great job! These guys are freaking amazing!
I have a 10 foot wide sliding glass door, each panel is 5 feet wide. I thought there was no way they were going to be able to fix it due to the size and age of the thing.
The door was so bad I could literally only open it about a foot and then I have to squeeze my body through it, the metal was grinding so bad that it was shaving metal off and everything.
They came out and shortened the door by a quarter inch in height and added new rollers and a new trim piece of metal on the bottom track, now my door works fantastic I can literally open it with two fingers!
I can finally enjoy my patio again!

Our Milgard sliding door went from tough to open to impossible to open. A-​1 was confident they could address the issue after describing the problem on the phone.
They were on time (one hour window) and even called shortly before they would be at my home — which was great. Repair crew was super nice and very fast, while describing everything they were doing in the repair.
It sounds like the standard Milgard track can eventually collapse to one side so A-​1 has produced much more durable replacement track which pops right in. New Rollers and Track in place in under an hour and the door is sliding like new.
Now I have to tell my kids to not open it like they used too for fear of sending the smooth running door crashing to the end of the track. Very happy customer.

My first and long overdue review! A-​1 came to fix two pocket doors in my house in April. They were very professional from Linda (who I spoke with to get answers to my questions and schedule a date) to Louis (the owner who came to fix the doors). They were on time and even when there was an issue because the floor wasn’t leveled, Louis worked hard to fix it. He was very particular and careful as he did the work – even guiding his apprentice to be careful along the way. I highly recommend A-​1 if you have pocket doors. They are worth the money because they are professional, clean, and offer lifetime warranty.

We had a sliding door to our patio that was gut straining to open. We finally called A-​1 for help and spoke with Linda who was the sweetest lady. She scheduled my appointment and they were on time and fix our door within an hour. The two guys who came were very nice and professional and knew what to do. We now can open this sliding door with one finger, it has never opened so smoothly. I would recommend this company to anyone who has a sliding door problem. Can’t see why you would not give this company 5 stars!!! Thanks again guys!

I called and spoke to Linda in the office on Friday ⁵⁄₁ about having my sliding door repaired and possibly getting a new screen door. She gave me an estimate for both and said she would send Lou and Martin out on ⁵⁄₂₀ between 10:30 and 11:30. Linda was extremely nice and helpful. I was very impressed with the one hour window. So many companies only offer a 4 hour window, or more. I received a call from Linda on Monday ⁵⁄₄ saying she could actually have them out on Tuesday ⁵⁄₅ between 2:30 and 3:30! Awesome! I received a call from Lou on Tuesday at 2:20 letting me know he was 20 minutes away. Lou came in and explained my door was very old (not surprised by that) and that he may need to order the rollers. But once he and Martin took it apart he found that he had all of the parts needed to get it repaired on the spot. They replaced the rollers and got the lock working like new! Unfortunately due to my uneven floor I am not able to get the new screen door that I hoped for but that was no fault of theirs. I appreciate the honest answers and that he did not try to just sell me something that he did not think would work well. They finished the job in about 45 minutes and I ended up paying less than my original estimate.

I had a patio sliding door with a badly bent track, so it was really hard to open and close. A-​1 (Louis and a partner) came out this week and replaced the track and rollers. Another sliding door repair company had inspected the door and said they’d need to order parts which would take weeks. But A-​1 got it done on the spot! I’m very pleased with their work and plan to have A-​1 replace my screen door as well.

Had a sliding glass door that was horrendously difficult to slide. Called A-​1 and she pretty much knew what the problem was over the phone and gave a price. Louis came as scheduled, was absolutely knowledgeable and repaired the door within 20 minutes. The door slides like butter. We also had a single hung window that the inner rail came out of the frame and wouldn’t close. Louis just put the frame back together with no charge.
Definitely would use their services again.

I would love to be able to give an actual review, but I have called during their regular business hours 5 times today and have been hung up on each time. My questions can apparently be taken elsewhere. I had high hopes because of the positive Unilocal reviews, but I’ll have to use a company that actually answers phone calls instead of just hanging up on potential clients.

What a racket A-​1 is! The biggest scam/​rip-​off in the area. Stay away do not do business with A-​1!
Around the middle of July my wife called around to see who could fix our back sliding screen door. The screen was ripped/​small holes and did not shut all the way to lock. We also have a little dog who seems to find amusement in running into the screen after playing outside. (I guess he was thinking the door was open). My mother had two doggy doors put in at her house paid $ 340 for everything. My wife starts calling around based on Unilocal reviews and has a company come out, they look at it and say we need a new track. Unfortunately they do not install those and recommended A-​1.
On July 23^rd she calls up A-​1 and speaks to Linda about installing a new track and putting in a med sized doggie door in our screen. Linda tells her we have to get a «NEW DOOR» BECAUSE ALL TRACKS ARE MADE CUSTOM FOR EACH DOOR (Red Flag #1). My wife gets a quote of $ 535! What they don’t know is I used to sell Anderson and Milgard and they don’t even charge that for retail (overpriced upscale, Red Flag #2). But it did include a doggy door with Lifetime warranty, so we went ahead and placed the order. Linda said she would send someone out, July 30^th paid a deposit of $ 165. A guy comes out takes measurements and leaves. August 25^th we get a phone call saying our door is in and when can they come install it. It took almost a month to get a screen door (Red Flag #3). I’m starting to think that going with this company was a big mistake.
We scheduled an install on August 30^th at 1pm. When 1pm rolls around no one shows up… 1:30 still no one. 1:45 my wife calls and leaves a voicemail wondering where the installer is because she has to leave at 2:40 to pick up our kids from school.
2:08 — A guy calls and says they are on their way. He said they «totally lost track of time.»
2:32 — Wife calls, the guy says they are about 5 – 10 minutes away.
2:45 — Wife calls and leaves a message that she had left the back gate unlocked and back door open to install.
2:58 — The guy calls and says he is there and they are installing the door.
3:08 — Wife calls guy, he said everything went smoothly.
3:20 — Wife gets home only to see a brand new custom screen door WITHOUT a doggy door!
4:25 — Wife calls up Linda leaves a message stating we did not get the right door installed and that it’s missing the doggy door we ordered.
5:09 Linda calls back apologizing for the mishap and how she remembers taking the order and that they will take care of this Tuesday ⁹⁄₂.
We seem very pleased that we paid good money to have this nice door and even with a mix up they will take care of it.
⁹⁄₃ Linda leaves a message that she’s calling back, apparently reading from her notes, «about the screen door with no pet door blah blah blah…» (seriously, you call this professional?! I wish Unilocal would allow audio to be posted!) Says she needs to speak to the owner and see what they are going to do. A few hours later she leaves another message saying that WE never ordered the screen door with a medium sized per door. Umm hello… We have an emailed quote from you for $ 535 including a doggy door. We called you and said we would like to place that order. You even stated such on your VM on Friday. Incompetence is a BIG RED FLAG. I now no longer want to do business with them.
We called Linda back and she said that we would have to wait another 2 weeks or more. We said that was unacceptable and got back to us with early next week. She also said it would be an additional $ 170. We inform her that we may just go with another company because A-​1 is very unprofessional and cannot fulfill a simple order. She balks at the idea and says, «I don’t know anyone who can install doggy doors in screens…»
Well, there are plenty of companies out there: We like the Mobile Screen Door guys who will install the doggy door for $ 75, less than HALF of what A-​1 is charging. Oh and they can do it ASAP!
Don’t do business with A-​1. They are scam artists, a huge waste for time and a rip off. You do not need a custom door with a new track!

Though our Golden Doodle is completely housebroken and is actually trained to ring a bell when he needs to go outside, this actually still left us with little freedom in the house. We essentially had to always be nearby to open the door for our dog or leave the door open for him. The latter option just resulted in too much heat loss and too many flies finding their way in. We researched dog door inserts that you wedge into the sliding door frame. We however soon realized that this option not only looked cheap but also would be too drafty with well-​known seal issues. It also would not be compatible with our alarm system.
Ultimately we decided to go with putting a pet door into our sliding glass door. We looked up local glass companies that carried PetSafe and Security Boss pet doors and would complete the installation. A-​1 On Track in Campbell came up and we had them come out to plan for the mini project. From start to finish, we dealt with Louis the owner. He was absolutely wonderful. He really knew his stuff and efficiently planned out the project. After measuring our sliding glass door dimensions, Louis ordered a new double-​pane glass sheet that would accommodate the new pet door insert. This actually took a couple weeks to cut, temper and complete. When it was finally ready, Louis and his technician took out the old glass and put the new piece into the existing sliding door frame. Shortly after this, our dog quickly learned how to zoom in/​out of the new door.
The whole project will run you at least $ 1K and can be a bit more depending on the size of the pet door and whether you go with PetSafe or the more expensive Security Boss versions. After having the door in place for some time now, I would definitely say it’s well worth the price. Our little guy is happy and we are even happier now that we have our freedom back.
