Our company has four locations. We have a contractor and distribution yard in Elwood, KS with rail spurs and four traditional lumberyard-​home centers in Kearney (headquarters), Cameron, and Laurie, in Missouri & Elwood in Kansas. Porters are affiliated with Ace Hardware but stock many fine products other than those that you would find in a typical Ace store. We are distributors for Stihl & Yellawood, along with Milgard windows and ThermaTru doors. We also feature Valspar, Cabot, and Clark & Kensington paints. We purchase our lumber direct from the mills with quality as our first consideration.

History

Established in 1952.

Porters Building Centers began as Kearney Lumber Company on June 7^th of 1952. The company started in what was an abandoned horse and buggy lumberyard which was housing mules, hogs and chickens in Kearney, Missouri by Mack and Mary Helen Porter. Mack cashed in the revenue generated from three years of teaching math, science, and coaching. Mary Helen sold her new car. The company has grown to six locations
