Specialties

December 11, 1620. When John Alden disembarked on Plymouth Rock as first passenger of the Pilgrims’ Mayflower he could not foresee that one of his direct descendant would have given birth to the mansion that now hosts the Maine Stay Inn. In 1802 in fact the carpenter Alden Bass built a house at 22 High Street. Those were the times when Thomas Jefferson was President of the United States, Route 1 was a dirt road and Maine was still a part of the state of Massachusetts.

Relaxed and cozy, the Maine Stay Inn is a grand old home located in the historic district of one of America’s most beautiful seaside villages. A two block walk down tree lined streets brings you to the Camden Harbor Park and then on to the shops and restaurants.

With a pleasant grove to the south, the Camden Hills State Park to the west and charming old homes (all listed on the National Register of Historic Places) to the north and east, the inn projects the true essence of New England, its history and its tradition.

History

Established in 1984.

A striking main house with an attached carriage house and a four-story barn, the home is an outstanding example of the progressive farm buildings common to 19th century Maine. The Maine Stay Inn is the second oldest of the sixty-six lovely homes that are listed on the National Register of Historical Places in the High Street Historic District.

Meet the Business Owner

Roberta and Claudio L.

Business Owner

We are natives of Italy.

We married in 1995 and since, travelled to the US almost every year.

Our very first trip to Arizona in 1996, made us fall in love with its stunning landscape. Instantly we felt great respect for the American way of life. The more we travelled throughout the country, the more we felt at home. We discovered our love for the American B&B’s and soon it became for us the only way to travel throughout this gorgeous country. Great service and atmosphere, tasteful intimate accommodation, meeting interesting people and wonderful food. What an experience!

Once back in Rome, we made up our minds, we wanted to move to the US and fulfill our dream, by owning our own B&B.

The decision was taken on our first trip to New England in 2003. We soon understood why Maine’s motto is «Vacationland» and we immediately felt that this was the country and the place where we wanted to live and settle down.
