I always got a tender greeting upon entering this den and the joint never failed to smell delicious to me. Now Weirdo is gone and the nights seem so long.

probably the best record shop I’ve ever been to – in terms of pricing, selection, and helpfulness of the staff.

There are some odd gems here. For such a small place you can really find alot of interesting stuff here. Great used section. Owner is just as interesting as the store itself, super nice. Has portable record player you can sample before you buy.

No greeting for me upon my entering the tiny shop. Completely ignored me my whole visit there, although she greeted and spoke to everyone else.
Is this something she reserves for regulars, or did she see I was Asian and assumed I didn’t speak English? Not the first time this has happened at a record shop here. Being ignored (no matter how well dressed you are) on this end of Mass Ave is par for the course, but this place is very nearly a shoebox. A simple greeting would not go amiss.

They pack more into this 300 sq (tops?) place than most stores cam jam in a place 6 times the size. On the floor & up the walls. You aren’t going to find mainstream or even slightly mainstream music (mostly LPs) here but go with an open mind & treat yourself to something you never knew existed. I’ve been digging around in record shops for 40+ years & I always come out of this place with a handful of winners, No doubt I;ve picked up a couple of things that I couldn’t quite grasp but that’s what it is all about. Always a treat to swing by. Check it out!

This place is disarmingly small. Upon first entering, I thought, «…this is it?» I assumed it was a mere atrium that led into a larger space, or that it included a bigger back room. But no. This is it. Embrace the smallness and peruse its wares which are, as the name indicates, thoroughly bizarre.
I recommend the monthly live arts, comedy-​centric showcase hosted here called It Just Got Weirdo. It features stand up comics, poets, storytellers and/​or musicians all within the confines of this teeny shop. It is a show unlike any other. Each audience member receives a gift (I got a vintage issue of Elfquest) and we all remained standing until the headliner demanded that we sit on the floor. There is free booze (hard alcohol/​mixers, beer) and non-​alcoholic beverages available.
The owner, Angela, is the sh*t. Oh, and if you want a bathroom, try the Communist bar down the street (seriously). Stay weird, Cambridge.

A great, still existing record shop with a excellent marketing strategy. Please, if you have any strange, industrial, experimental or novelty vinyl records, bring them to this store before you sell them on eBay.

I’m glad Boston has a record shop like this one. It may be small but if your a true music connoisseur this is the first place you should check out. I didn’t look at anything other than the records but I have say I was impressed. As others have said they mainly deal in reissues of rare records, many of which are next to impossible to find in their original pressing. Its not so much a shop to dig for records as it is a shop to discover music and the stuff they have covers the whole musical spectrum. The compilations and reissues here are ones that your not going to find anywhere else in the Boston area and that’s what makes weirdo such a great shop. I’m looking forward to visiting again.

One of my favorite record shops in Boston, has a very eclectic mix of hard to find and unique records. Definitely not for everyone but if you’re serious about vinyls then you’ll love this place

Took a ride over to Weirdo Records and walked out with two records. The selection was small and was mostly brand new albums or reissues. The used selection was minimal and most budget LPs are records you’d find at any thrift store.
Some of the used records were a bit pricey, especially for the condition. I still liked the store and the lady behind the counter was friendly. Although not one of the best record shops Boston has to offer, worth a look if you have 20−30min to spare for a quick look through.

This store is tiny and has a really expensive, small selection. Much of it is CD’s. If you’re looking for brand new records, this may be the place for you, but if you’re looking for cheap, used records you’re probably have a better experience going to Cheapo Records down the street.

I walked in not knowing what I was walking into. Luckily, they didn’t laugh at the CDs I wanted to sell. A polite woman gave me tips on where she thought each type of cd would get the best price. She was incredibly knowledgeable about what to find at area music stores. And what she advised panned out correctly!

Tiny, I mean REALLY tiny, like maybe 150 square feet, but I still walked out with some great finds. I didn’t even get to the CDs, or I may have found even more. This Is definitely a boutique place, not for everyone. If you’re looking for the unusual, try here. I picked up a Sun Ra, Rufus Harley (jazz bagpipes), and Ornette Coleman reissue LPs, and these were probably more mainstream than most of the music offered here.

I’m sure there are wonderful LP’s in the store, however, the overwhelming smell of body odor from the staff was too much to handle today. It’s a small space and I had to leave. Bummer.

My favorite record store in America. Great staff and an amazing stock of records and old bizarre movies.

I would stand outside in the rain and that would be okay if I could only Peer in once and while and hear your songs and see your smiles. The name says it all. Weirdo Records has a huge selection of weird, eclectic CDs and vinyl. It’s such a refreshing experience. When I was growing up, I use to go to Boston and check out stores like Second Coming and Mars on Newbury. These stores and so many others are now closed. Places like In your ear, cheapo records, and planet records are not bad if you’re not looking for anything too special or diverse. But if you want to get something for yourself or another person, some album that’s really going to be different and cool Weirdo is your place.
Oh and top of the interesting selection, from what I saw, the records are pretty reasonably priced. I bought a serge gainsbourg reissue that would have been near $ 20 at other places but it was only $ 14. The women at the register was super nice when I checked out too (also a semi-​rarity at record shops… I know, I use to work at one!)

My dad taught me well. Almost too well. Most of my childhood was based around music in one way or the other; from the very beginning, when I was not even walking yet, my dad put a pair of headphones on me and taught me what good music was supposed to sound like. We visited record stores together more than I ever visited a playground or a shopping mall. An avid Beatles collector, my father knew a thing or two about superfandom, collecting music and related items, and being completely and utterly in love with good old rock-​n-​roll.
He was one of those funny types who had a CD player in 1982. I remember this thing — how could I not, he had it well past when I graduated high school in 1995 — and it still worked! It was a huge, clunky, silver thing. And I think in 1982 he had maybe two CDs that actually worked in there, but no matter. It was a spectacle. And I listened to Live at Wembley 1986 by Queen for the first time in that thing. That was the first thing I tried to purchase that — gasp — did not come as a cassette tape. CD only. I was floored. What on earth?
My dad laughed and told me that at least records are timeless. Sure, this was right as Tower Records was about to go out of business, so I kind of looked at him with an eyebrow raised, but he swore to me that the real record stores will always prevail. Probably because of folks like him who collect 45s and have jukeboxes that play said 45s, and because of those folks’ kin (such as me) who understand the rush of merely just holding a record in ones hands.
Suffice it to say I have gone into mostly every record store I pass by, almost by habit. I usually go in at first to see if it would meet my dad’s standards. But then I usually stay awhile… and get lost in the wonder of it all. Weirdo Records has more than just records, of course. It’s a full-​fledged music haven. You’d be crazy not to just love it. And if you are looking for unique, eclectic stuff, you’ve found a great place for that, too.
I still haven’t been able to go through the whole store, and I’ve been there dozens of times already. That says a lot. If you grew up like I did, you have a home at Weirdo.
