There is nothing worse than having a therapist who isn’t as smart as you and thinks he/she is. That isn’t the case with Valerie, who is clever and quick witted, and while she is a compassionate person I’ve found her quite able to feel out the degree of warm fuzzy I want(very little) and the amount of conversational structure and focus I want(very high) to best suit my personality type. I have had dozens of talk-counselors in the last twenty years and I think it’s rare to find one who is genuinely a people-person that wants to work with you, not try to mold you to their pre-formatted sessions. I think Valerie is an experienced enough therapist that whether or not you know what you need in a therapist, like I did, or you are just starting out, she would be a good choice in a counselor. Look her up on the Psychology Today counselor search for more info about what she specializes in.
