Tocco Classico

Bridget is amazing! This was my first haircut here and now I will be coming to Bridget for all my haircuts! The hair stylist I have been going to for awhile whose cuts I loved moved out of the area so I needed a new hair stylist. I recently tried a different salon using a groupon and had been given the most blah haircut (and won’t be going back to that salon). I stopped into this salon and asked for ideas on how to fix my blah haircut for the next time I needed a cut in the future. Bridget really looked at my hair and gave me some terrific ideas for future cuts, agreed that my haircut didn’t hang together as a cut (wispy in front and yet just hung there and didn’t look right and long in the back with a really odd wierd shape to it) and offered to fix my current cut for free (but of course generous offer though it was I didn’t want to do that) so I made an appointment to come back in the hopes she could salvage my cut.
Bridget is absolutely wonderful! She has over 30 years of experience and actually knew how to cut my hair so that a blah haircut where the best compliment was that it looked like I’m growing it out, or where no one even noticed I had a style, turned into multiple compliments and a cut that’s truly fun and edgy with shape and definition. Bridget is like the hair whisperer. she knows how to work with baby fine absolutely straight hair and has a great sense for what would be perfect for your face. I absolutely love my new haircut. Plus she has great ideas for what to do next once it grows a bit so we have a plan for 10 weeks from now.
The salon atmosphere is like Cheers where everyone knows your name and everyone chats with each other. She asks if you would like coffee or tea or something else and cookies. She took me on time and it’s a relaxing fun lively place where it’s down to earth and has a neighborhood feel, and where when you leave you feel like you truly had great conversations with everyone.
I love being able to write this review. it’s so hard to find a great hair stylist so I had to share my experience. I think haircuts are $ 45 and a color, cut and blowdry is $ 90. Thanks to Bridget I found my new salon and stylist.

My first visit was with a Groupon. Bridgette has been my go to hairdresser ever since. She is an expert in color and is willing to spend extra time on small details. The prices are very competitive. I definitely recommend this salon.

I recently went in to get partial highlights. I have very curly hair and have had bad experiences in the past at hair salons where they just had no clue how to deal with my hair. From the minute I talked to Bridget on the phone and she told me she specializes in curly hair, I felt completely at ease and knew that I was in good hands.
She managed to get me an appointment within an hour of me calling in, which was awesome! Once I went it, she was very friendly and welcoming. Even though I went in for partial highlights, she added a few extra streaks on the bottom for me! This to me shows that her goal is to make sure that her clients are satisfied.
I am very happy with my trim and my new highlights– I’ve been getting compliments left and right, Bridget really did an exceptional job! I was so happy with the results, I had to give Bridget a big hug before I left with a big smile on my face!

The place is not a pleasant place to get your haircut.
The trash was overflowing, the bathrooms and back room were messy and dirty. The cut was okay. Would not recommend any color or highlights. No, I would not
recommend or return to this salon.

I recently used a Groupon to get my hair washed & cut by Andrea. She was great — friendly, gentle, and skilled. I’m very happy with the haircut. Not only that but the service was quick and cheerful. From when I called to make the appointment to the time I walked out the door, I felt taken care of. I didn’t have to wait long for an appointment, whereas other salons sometimes take weeks. The owner (unfortunately I did not get her name — maybe it’s Bridget who others have mentioned in reviews) was very nice and offered me tea/​coffee while I waited (for about 2 minutes). The salon was clean and comfortable. I live right around the corner so I will be back!

I bought a Groupon for full highlights, a wash, haircut and blowdry for $ 95 which is decent considering that at full price the same services would run upwards of $ 200 or so at most places.
I made an appointment earlier this week for Saturday at 12pm with Bridget, who in past reviews seems like a genius with hair. I strolled in around 11:55am to find no one in the salon. I probably waited another 5 to 10 min until Bridget rolled in. She kept grumbling as to why «the other girl» didn’t show up to do my hair. I was a bit confused, because I thought my appointment was her to begin with? But she was happy to do my hair anyways and immediately offered me coffee and cookies :)
She recommend that I add in some low lights for $ 20 extra so the repeated highlights wouldn’t make my hair too light and unnatural-​looking. I took her up on her recommendation and WOW what a difference! It made the highlights blend in much better with my natural coloring. She also paid attention to not take off length, but rather shape up my layers as I requested. She was also willing to work around small requests such as extra trimming around my bangs without a problem.
I asked if she offered a lock in price because the big disappointment with groupon sometimes is that you get a great job done, but the businesses then request that you pay full price next time which I can’t do on a student budget :(we bonded so well during my appointment with her, ahe she was more than happy to offer me a locked in rate for future appointments! I will DEFINITELY be back.
The only reason I take a star off is due to past reviews detailing horror stories with scheduling, and she was a tiny bit late for my appointment in combination with the confusion between who was going to do my hair. A tip is to make an appointment on a day where you have loads of time to kill in the case that a scheduling mishap does happen. Otherwise, you will leave with amazing hair :)

I went into this place today with a Groupon for a wash cut and blowdry. I really like my cut; Andrea did a great job and was very personable. The only thing was, I showed up a little before noon for my noon appt, and the staff hadn’t even gotten in yet. One of the ladies working at the dry cleaner (that shares a space with the salon) gave me the owner’s phone number to call and see where she was. I would maybe understand if I was a walk-​in, but if you know you have an appt for a certain time it’s pretty unprofessional to show up late.
All in all, I’d go back with another Groupon — if I was paying full price I’d probably go elsewhere.

I made a 2 pm appt over the phone detailing what I wanted done and that I had purchased a Groupon. I was told it would be no problem, and when I asked who would be my stylist, I was told Andrea or Bridget, and that I would find out when I got there. Odd, but OK. A week later I walked in and was greeted with unswept floors and a run-​down salon ripped from 1984. There was one woman working on two customers (she has dark red hair and an Italian accent). She looked confused, but told me to sit and «wait for the other girl». After waiting ten minutes and being ignored, I finally interrupted her to ask who would be working with me.
She said «Honey, I have two customers and the Andrea is out sick. That’s who was going to cut your hair». At this point, I was very confused as to why she didn’t tell me this initially and why I wasn’t called about a cancellation. When I asked why I had to come down to the salon and wait to be told this, she said «A girl is sick, what do you want?». For some unearthly reason I remained friendly and even agreed to wait an hour and a half and come back (I really needed my hair cut that day!). Finally, I returned and she said «Hon, I am behind. I’ll be ready for you at six.» She requested that I wait THREE MORE hours! At this point, I beyond exasperated. When I told her that it was ridiculous to ask a client to wait like this, she said «This woman is having her wedding tomorrow! You can’t wait for a woman who is getting married?! Andrea is sick and didn’t cancel. You never get sick and not show up?» At this point, the client being worked on said, «I’m sorry, now I feel like this is my fault. My color didn’t turn out correctly and needed to be redone».
I told the stylist that, no, I would never, ever no-​show to something for work with no call, and that it was not the current client’s fault because she had made an appointment as well. I then said that I suspected due to her initial confusion that she had not written down my appointment when I spoke to her over then phone. She said she did. I then referenced the open appointment book and noted that I was nowhere in it. She claimed that she had written somewhere «in her purse» (?)
All I know is that this place is very unprofessional overall. Either Andrea no-​shows for clients, and her boss doesn’t care, or the woman who takes down appointments didn’t ever bother writing it down and thought it was rational to keep me on call from 2−6pm. I am inclined to believe the latter since I saw her taking appointments as she cradled the phone with her face and worked on her client’s hair at the same time. She told me to take it up with Groupon, so all I got out of the transaction was a Groupon voucher for «unprofessional conduct». Not what I was looking for.

I used the Groupon deal for a wash, haircut and blow dry. Andrea was my stylist and she did a great job! I have curly hair so I always have issues with cutting and styling. This place is small but has a nice ambiance. It’s low key but the staff members are very professional. Worth checking out.

I went here to get a hair cut a while back and Bridget was the hairdresser that helped me with the service. She had good communication in regarding the setting up of the appointment and even though her arm was in some pain during the appointment, she still did a good job with the hair cut as well as the highlights. She paid good attention to the details especially on the highlights. The timing of the appointment was also very accurate to the amount of time she originally predicted for the hair cut and the highlights.

When I first moved to Massachusetts, I lived around the corner from this salon and would come here to get my hair done. Four years later, I still come to see Bridget to get my hair done. If I get my hair done anywhere else, it’s usually a complete disaster. Bridget’s pretty adept at fixing my hair when it starts to look like a demilitarized zone. She always does a fantastic job, and she’s fun to talk to!

Loved my experience here! When I got here at quarter to 12, I was very pleasantly greeted and brought over to the chair and asked what I wanted. I was
A group on customer and never got treated differently from a regular customer.
Andrea, who was my stylist did an amazing job. I got a full foil, haircut and blow dry. I left it in her hands and was very satisfied. My experience here was great and I will definitely be back!!! Thank you Andrea!!!

I bought a deal the first time I came here for a cut, color and deep conditioning treatment. I’ve been coming back for a year now. Andrea is GREAT. I bring pictures in and she gets it perfect every time, or I can describe what I want and again she gets it right. I go here for a cut and color every time. Bridget and Andrea are ALWAYS incredibly nice. I don’t care what others have written about their experiences here. I will continue to come back here again and again. I recommend Tocco Classico to anyone I can.

I first stumbled upon this place after Floyd’s up the street was too busy to take me in. Hair cutting in Cambridge can be very hit or miss, which is why I thought I’d go with a chain like Floyd’s, but I’ve consistently returned to Tocco Classico with great satisfaction. This is the kind of place that attracts a loyal, local customer base. In my experience, Andréa has done an excellent job cutting my hair and I’ve received a good many compliments thanks to her skill. More generally, prices are fair (and include «touch-​ups»), the atmosphere feels a little dated, service is more personal than most places, and the people are very kind. Support local business!

Ladies! I’ve enjoyed coming here getting my hair cut by Brigitte. She always makes me feel at home right when I walk in. If I come in with a photo for a style, we talk about what would work for my hair. She’s willing to do whatever you want, and is also (thank goodness) willing to try out a tamer version of what you want and go more extreme if you’re comfortable. I’ve always left very happy with the result of the cut. Brigitte is wonderful and she’s refreshingly affordable compared to the other wacky places on mass ave! Brigitte does everything you would expect, which I find is actually not as easy to come by as one would hope, and you’ll always leave with a smile!

I love this place! Tocco Classico is awesome. From the moment you walk in you feel right at home. I just got my haircut done today with Andria who is amazing. she is friendly, and did an excellent job.
The haircut I ask for is pretty specific… I get the sides shaved with a 2 faded up to a 3 with clippers, then blended into the top that is cut finger length w scissors… the bangs left a little longer. then cleaned up in the back/​sideburns and evened out. Andria listened to everything I asked for and did it perfectly.
I have been to many different barbershops, hair salons, supercuts, etc. and I am more pleased with the haircuts I have received at Tocco than anywhere else I have been. Andria really knows what she is doing. A lot of places. At Tocco, they really seem to care about each person who walks through the door. They always give me a lot of individual attention and take the time to make sure I am happy with the haircut.
Brigitte (the owner) is very involved in everything that goes on at the salon. She is very nice, and very knowledgeable as well. She always chimes in with helpful recommendations and pleasant conversation. I am really happy I found this place! You cannot go wrong coming to Tocco Classico. Give it a try you wont regret it!

Something wasn’t right when I walked in. This place has that 90s salon feel to it. It felt dated. But Floyds was booked for the night, and I wanted a haircut, so I gave it a shot. Big mistake.
First, the woman (Andrea) sprayed my hair with water, resulting in it dripping all down my face, my ears, and my back.
Then, she was painfully slow with her buzzer, and I questioned (aloud) how long she has worked there for (2 years), and I questioned (in my head) whether she had ever given a buzz cut before.
The front of my haircut (a 3 on sides and back, blended to a 5 up top, using scissors to shorten the front) was unevenly cut on the left and right side of my face. When I questioned this, she said it’s my uneven hairline. Um, no, it’s your bad technique.
Finally, her clippers kept nicking my neck, resulting in a burning sensation. She kept using them, even though I told her they burned. I now have red marks on the back of my neck (adding a photo so you can see).
Then, I was charged at a discount. I appreciate the gesture, but this should have been free. I want my money back. I was also given a customer loyalty card. Did she really think I was coming back after this experience?
Don’t go here. There are too many options in the area.

If I could give a rating lower than 1 star, I would. I bought a massage deal for their location from Groupon. This place is AWFUL and the deal was sold under wrong pretext. I have had a lot of massages in my life and this was hands down the worst experience. There is a whole slew of reasons I can give:
1) It was advertised as $ 45 for a service worth $ 90 (60 min massage). As soon as I walked in, there was a big sign stating that all 60 min massages are for $ 55.
2) It is a hair salon with a small, box type, make-​shift room for massage that was at best, creepy. It was right in the middle of the hair salon and I could hear all the chatter outside, blaring music and NO privacy. At one point, while I was under the sheet without any clothes, the masseuse opened the door and went outside and left he door wide open!!!
3) The masseuse (Jennifer) is totally unqualified — she had no clue what she was doing and I was more sore afterwards than before. She was completely unprofessional. She starts off the massage by stating «my hands are going to be cold to begin with but i promise they’ll warm up!» after which she places ice cold hands on my bare, warm back.
4) I had to instruct her ¾ times that she needs to stay away from a certain part of my body because whatever she was doing was causing pain (which I had none of before coming there).
There is a lot more I can add but bottom line — STAY AWAY!

Great haircut! I absolutely hate getting my hair cut and brigitte did an excellent job. I refuse to pay for the frills of a snooty salon, so this was perfect. Low-​key, local, and a great price. I was able I make an appointment the same day. She listened to what I wanted and I got exactly that! And, she didn’t try to push products on me that I didn’t need. Brigitte is great to talk to, which made the visit fun! And, she even spent the time to blow out my long, curly hair into something sleek and shiny! I’m loving it!
