Slightly awkward moment today(11⁄9) I came form the Payless downtown since that experience was a tad bit frustrating.(review later) Today I used a birthday coupon with the bogo sales which racked up to about 42 dollars. The coupon was for 25% off the entire purchase… and I had an awkward moment trying to explain that 25% of a 40.00 purchase was NOT3.50. I really showed my polite self to the associate when she was organizing things before ringing me up saying, «Take your time» and she assured me that he 3.50 was from the entire purchase… … eh… The manger settled everything though and gave me back some money. Which is always worth it. And now I have two epic sneakers to wear. :) I wish there was more 11w shoes like in downtown but I am satisfied with my purchases… Not so much with the awkwardness– which I probably am at fault(I’m an awkward person). I did feel like the associate was basically getting tired of my meek argument with me asking«Are you SURE it’s from the ENTIRE purchase? Because it just says 3.50 for just the shoes that got bogo’d» and she kept repeating about shoes that were at full price. Coupon said«No exclusions» and had details on the back written clearly. *sigh* Maybe I should work at Payless… it looks like a place that needs more smiles.

I had a good experience here in Aug 2012. At another Payless store in the Boston area, the employees avoid you at all costs. At this one I was greeted with a friendly«Hello, may I help you find something?» as soon as I walked in. Wondered if I’d wandered into the wrong store! When I explained what kind of shoes I was looking for, someone led me to the right spot to show me what they had and waited patiently while I tried various ones on. All in all, very good service, and the price, of course, cannot be beat! Not all stores in the same chain are the same – glad I found this one.

payless stores are generally the same layout. It’s nothing fancy, but I have been satisfied with several pairs of shoes from here and its a place to go for an emergency pair of shoes and when you’re low on cash. I recently bought their Hope shoes which are generic TOMS and I have to say they are pretty damn comfy and perhaps even fit me a tad better then TOMS. Also a bonus that i discovered here is that for women about a size 7 or smaller, the kids size 5ish will fit you. Sometimes cheaper boots and cute glittery shoes. The staff is pretty much as I’d expect the staff at payless to be– not unfriendly but anxious to get the day over with. Often this store’s staff is funny and laughing with each other. The other day they told me I had just missed a sale as well as some coupons, I was hoping maybe they’d do a little discount to make up for that since i was buying two pairs, but no such luck.

Most unenthusiastic employees ever! Cashier in monotone voice: Thank you for shopping at Payless. I hope you have a nice day. How the heck to I fly into a land of the cold and rainy from the land of wildfires and earthquakes? Most unenthusiastic employees here! Jessika: Would you look forward to working if you worked at Payless? Apparently with shoe soles that have holes and is no longer waterproof to even a light gathering of water. Jessika’s wedding is tomorrow and I needed shoe replacement for it. Enter Payless Shoe Source. Not the best selections of 9.5 shoes but cheap for what they had in stock. I was debating one that was marked down from $ 34.99 to $ 27.99 and one that was from $ 29.99 to $ 19.99. I’m a teacher, so guess which one I went with… :)

Ok, I admit it — I’ve been here and I even bought two pairs of shoes for the summer. They’re not high-quality, they’re not special, but they’re cheap(and I’m broke), and they’re vegan.

Ahh if the Gap wasn’t next door, this place would epitomize the gentrification of Central Square. I’ll be honest, I’ve set foot in this store. I’ve tried on their shoes. Yes, they’re cheaply made.(In Brazil. Chloe D, stay away as your mother warned). I’d have to argue that there might be nothing more practical than a pair you can wear out on the dancefloor and retire after a season at $ 19.99 and below. The staff is unenthusiastic, but who cares. It’s clean. It serves its purpose. It’s the NYC Marketing Directors Mother’s company. It’s all good. ;)

Though I was once upset by the impact that Payless would have on Central Square, I must now admit I like the store being close to home. I have managed to break more pairs of sandals walking down Essex Street than I would care to discuss and if it weren’t for Payless I would end up trying to hop across the street to Tellos to find out if they even sell flippys, or paying out the ass at Gap. I also appreciate that the guy who rang me up was wearing a name tag that said«Smiles Capitan» I’m not sure what it meant… But I thought it funny.
