Lizzy’s serves over 50 flavors of ice cream to suit every taste, from familiar favorites such as vanilla, chocolate and cookie dough to more adventurous options like Black Raspberry, Rum Raisin or Chocolate Orgy. Choose from a great selection of toppings to take your ice cream treat to the next level! We use only the finest ingredients available, from our cream that comes from a small local dairy to our carefully sourced ingredients and toppings.

In addition to traditional ice cream, we also serve a fantastic selection of frozen yogurt, lite ice cream, sherbert and Tofutti to fit any food allergy, sensitivity or dietary restriction. Whether you are vegan, dairy-​free or gluten-​free, we have a tasty selection to fit your needs.

Hosting an event? We can craft an amazing ice cream cake, or send you home with grab ‘n go ice cream sundae kits. We also cater for large events and corporate meetings, so make sure to think of us next time you’re hosting an event!

History

Established in 1995.

Way back in 1995, Lizzy’s was founded by owner Nick Pappas, an eccentric corporate-​world type. In a bout of mid-​life crisis, Nick cashed in his chips as a Digital Manager and dove headfirst into his dream of making the most delicious ice cream around. Guess what — it worked! The right side of Nick’s brain has conjured up some of the most exciting flavors you’ll ever taste, and his perfectionist tendencies guarantee that only the finest ingredients are ever used. All of this translates into the best-​tasting ice cream sundaes around, with no equal. One note of caution: if you have Lizzy’s cater your Sundae Party, be prepared for a very serious lickin’!

Business Owner

Nick grew up in the city of Boston, and ice cream was always a wonderful experience for him. He loved driving into the country with his family to visit ice cream stands, meeting friends at an ice cream parlor in the city or simply eating ice cream with his dad as they wanted Sunday football. After a career in the computer industry in the Boston area, Nick decided to build upon his lifelong love of great ice cream. He opened the first Lizzy’s Ice Cream location in Waltham in 1995, and soon grew to 3 locations throughout the Boston area. Nick is proud of the great reputation Lizzy’s has earned over the years, and looks forward to serving tasty ice cream for many more to come.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. I liked their interesting flavor selection. The line was short — they ALWAYS have some sort of line.
I got Chocolate orgy, peanut butter cup in waffle cone as a small w 2 flavors (many places require a medium if going w 2). I enjoyed them both. Fairly creamy (vs sugary) and well flavored.

I came with the family for a second chance still bad. Our ice cream was all ice! We constantly were picking out chunks of ice. On a positive side they have a bunch of flavors.

I wasn’t a huge fan. Their ice cream wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t as creamy as I would have liked and there was nothing really impressive about it. I wouldn’t mind getting ice cream here, but with so many other awesome ice cream parlors in Boston I’m not sure if I’ll be coming again. If you like something very light, this place might be the place to go!

Oh I loved this place. It’s a small shop at Harvard square, almost unnoticeable next to the Starbucks store. I loved the Cuban coffee flavor so much I ended up going there three times in a week!

The ice cream had a very watery taste, no very flavorful. The woman behind the counter didn’t tie her long hair and was wearing a tank top while digging deep for ice cream, it was gross !!!

The ice cream portions and quality are both great! They have some pretty unique flavors and for the pricing, it’s a much better deal than JP Licks. We came here after a meal for quick dessert and weren’t disappointed.

Very yummy ice cream. I had the chocolate cookie dough and it was delicious. A nice large hard packed scoop to boot!
I particularly enjoyed this ice-​cream for the cold factor. I love super cold ice-​cream. I find that the higher cream content ice-​cream are just to creamy, heavy, and warm when they hit my tongue. Don’t think I mean that this ice-​cream is icy, because that is not at all what I’m saying. In fact, not one ice crystal to be found. Lizzy’s just seemed to perfect the coldest and most enjoyable ice-​cream I have ever eaten! Similar, but better, than Three Twins if you’ve ever had that before.
Friendly staff, but the storefront is just so dark, depressing, and dingy. Hence the four star in lieu of five.

They have an incredibly small store tucked away beside Starbucks on Church street, which can be easy to miss upon first visit. I tried the Chunky Charles — dark chocolate with almond caramel chunks — and thought it was quite nice! It was a good flavor pairing and the ice cream was just the right texture and richness. One scoop turned out to be quite generously sized, though probably quite proportional to the price paid…
Would recommend getting a lighter flavor to balance out a very sweet flavor if you’re not a fan of too many sweets at once. Don’t plan to stick around the store and eat your ice cream — definitely get it and walk around!

HORRENDOUS. Went here with a coworker after lunch and wanted to try some tofutti ice cream. The people behind the counter were rude and miserable. Who is that depressed working around ice cream?
We came in, excited and perky. I asked what the vegan options were to which one of the guys replied, «It’s on the board.» Then I look and asked what my topping options were, «It’s on the board.»
Um, okay, rude. My coworker didn’t get anything and I ONLY did because I’ve never had tofutti ice cream (weird, right?). It wasn’t that good, anyway, and was way too expensive. The service was terrible so I’ll never go back. If I want vegan ice cream, I’ll go to JP Licks.

I ordered a DIY sundae party for an orientation event. When I called to put in my order, they were great, letting me know that I could do 1 more flavor than I thought, and helping me figure out how many gallons of each and what might be popular.
At the actual event, they delivered a bit early (better than late!), and everything ran really smoothly. Everything was absolutely delicious, including the dairy-​free sorbet and Tofutti. The only downside was that we had a TON of toppings left over, but my guess is they decide how much to send based on kids; parties, and the grad students we were serving were a little more sparse with toppings.
The ice cream was great, the toppings were great, the service was great. I would definitely order again!

My favorite ice cream place in Cambridge — much better than Toscanini’s, imo. I’ve tried coconut and ginger and coconut is the flavor that makes my dreams come true. I’m usually used to the sorbet version and not many places have coconut, but their’s is divine. It’s just the right amount between creamy and sorbet-​y and has flakes of coconut in it. The ginger didn’t make me a fan — the ginger flavor was too weak and it didn’t have that amazing creamy balance of coconut. The boyfriend has tried every chocolate flavor on the menu and overall, he loves it but leans towards chocolate cookie dough for its intense chocolate flavor.
The line is always manageable, the prices are less than $ 4 for a single scoop (gigantic scoop) and you can grab a pint to go of your favorite flavor. I hear they have the best frappé, as well. And while you’re waiting in line, check out the interesting Cambridge-​esque posters! There are a few bar stools but not a great place to hang and enjoy — just head outside to the square.

We came here earlier this week because JP Licks was overrun by a plague of teen boppers. Not wanting to abandon my ice cream craving we walked over to Lizzie’s. I’ve had Lizzie’s once or twice before and I can’t really pin point why I don’t come here more often. The youths that plagued JPs were nowhere to be seen and we were served almost immediately. There isn’t really a sitting area so you pretty much get your ice cream and go (this would make JPs way better in winter but it’s summer so outdoor ice cream eating it is!).
I got a kiddie scoop of maple walnut-​I tend to like these flavors. It’s a bit creamier than JPs and the taste is not as sharp (and maybe a bit sparse nut-​wise) but I found that the nuts were better roasted so there wasn’t as much of a bitter nut skin flavor. My friend ordered mocha chocolate lace-​he enjoyed it. I tend to stay away from coffee flavors but I will say this, it was a dense chocolate and coffee flavor so it’s not for those who don’t take well to caffeine but must be heaven for those who do because it actually tastes like a mocha coffee in icecream form, not toned down by the cream at all.

This place is a great little oasis of rad!
I am here for a two month work contract from NYC, where vegan food and ice cream is on every corner, so naturally, I expected the same here. However, none of my coworkers share the same enthusiasm for soy and dairy free products as I. I wanted to find a place that suited everybody’s needs and these guys totally owned it!
I am skeptical of any product that says «dairy free» because it doesn’t meant that’s it’s always vegan, but when I saw that this place carries Tofuti I jumped for joy!!!
The portions are HUGE, which, for the price, is amazing!!! Vegan options are limited but for those who do eat dairy the flavored are endless.

Solid ice cream. Got the 1 scoop cup with half a scoop of Mint Oreo and the other half of Colombian Fudge Avalanche Fudge. Serving sizes are huge and the scoopers are friendly. However I would personally choose JP Licks over Lizzy’s because JP Licks’ ice cream is much more rich and creamy.

Fantastic mouthwatering ice cream flavors able to satisfy any ice cream craving person.
On my first visit I was impressed by the unique flavors and eager to try them all. I ended up getting Charles River Crunch, Colombian Fudge Avalanche, Chocolate Orgy, and Mocha Chocolate Lace. BEST. COMBO. EVER. Simply pure happiness with every bite. I highly recommend this place and I know I will be back to try their other flavors.

Lizzy’s Ice Cream is tucked into Harvard Square, and is a gem that everyone must try on a visit. Serving sizes are huge here, and the place feels very personable and homey. The owner, Nick, is an extremely interesting and kind person as well!
Definitely recommend for anyone trying to get a quick snack.

Ok this place is a conundrum. They have tasty ice cream. They can not understand and deliver your order correctly. Then again they dont know how to charge you right either which can be beneficial.
So the munchkin and I cruised in here on our last day in the Boston area. She ordered a chocolate cookie dough kids scoop and I ordered a mint oreo scoop… Well I got a kids scoop of mint oreo and the munchkin got a chocolate regular scoop. When I later looked at the bill I realized we both got charged for kids scoops.
Pro Tip: Parking is hellish and at a minimum an extra $ 5 unless you can get a meter =\
The folks working here were quite nice and pleasant. They had one table inside and a couple of chairs outside. So needless to say it was a tiny shop. Overall they were pretty busy and had 2 dudes worken here when we dropped through.
The ice cream tasted great overall so in the end we both enjoyed our stop in here on a pleasant slightly warm day…

Stop #2 on my ice cream tour, and tying for #3 (out of 4) for taste on my personal list. I opted for the Butter Crunch, which was really good. My friend had the Charles River Crunch, which she said was amazing.
The 3, rather than 4, stars are because 1 — this joint was kind of expensive and 2 — the young kids working here could use a little bit of customer service training. I know this is just a dinky summer job for them, but you should probably put down the iphone when you have customers.
