History

Established in 1994.

Leonard, David and Stephen met and became lifelong friends at Salon Gino on Holyoke Street in Harvard Square way back in 1977. Maria also began her hair career there as well. Years after David left Gino to «find» himself in the little ski town Breckenridge Colo, he returned to find his compatriots working with another Gino cohort, Atilla Keller at Salon «Tilla for Hair,» on Church Street in Harvard Square.

Upon returning from Colo. David resumed his career at Gino, till Stephen, who regarded him as part of the special nucleus at Gino, asked him to join him, Leonard and Maria at a brand new location at 54 JFK St. Nearly twenty years later, that «special nucleus» has only been improved upon by the addition of Mary; who herself worked in «The Square,» at Michaels on Mass Ave. since the Seventies, and: our most recent rercruit, the superbly talented Stephanie, who also worked in «The Square» at Diego, for many years. We are «The Square.»

Meet the Manager

Mary D.

Manager

Mary joined Leonard Stephen Salon after leaving Michaels on Mass avenue Cambridge, near Dolphin Seafood. She brings heaps of talent, experience and kindheartedness to our tight knit group. Though she’s a peer age wise, she began her career at age 15 and was working professionally while the rest of us were still pondering our future work possibilities. A truly gifted hairstylist, she has embraced the arc of changing styles from more classical hairdressing right up to the most post modern moment. She very dearly loves her native Cambridge, and will often be found extolling it’s virtues, and giving an encyclopedic depiction of some slightly earlier version of «our fair city», (as the Car Talk guys say). She is well traveled non the less, and brings sophistication and intelligent perspective to her deceptively homey persona. We feel most lucky and grateful for her dear spirit in our midst day after day. (she is not the manager, she is an employee)
