You need an experienced advocate to guide you through the court process and fight for the best possible outcome. I have represented hundreds of clients in all types of criminal cases, from shoplifting and trespass to attempted murder, kidnapping, bank robbery, and high-​level drug trafficking.

Different people have different goals in a criminal case. Some people need to win the case at any cost, because a conviction would be devastating. Others care more about minimizing the time that they spend in court, and getting it over with as soon as possible. Still others are most worried about avoiding jail time, and can tolerate the possibility of a conviction or long delays so long as they stay out. Whatever is most important to you, I will explain your options and work with you to figure out what approach is right for you.

Even when a case seems hopeless, I will investigate it from every angle to find a defense. A seemingly-​simple fraud case can get dismissed if the bank records are out of order. Many drug cases are won because the police do not follow all of the technical requirements for stopping and searching a suspect. Regardless of the case, I will look for any problem that I can use to your advantage.

History

Established in 2013.

Attorney Andrew Cowan established his law firm in 2013 after working as a public defender for five years in the Boston area. He has appeared in twenty-​three District Courts, and six Superior Courts, handling cases ranging from trespass, OUI, and drug possession to kidnapping, murder, as well as white collar and internet crimes.

In addition to criminal matters, Attorney Cowan also welcomes estate planning (wills and trusts), probate, and litigation matters.

I am an actual rocket scientist, and a Massachusetts criminal defense expert.

I earned my physics degree from the University of Iowa and earned my law degree cum laude Cornell Law School in 2008. In Law school, I won the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Federal Jurisdiction and the school’s Freeman Award for Civil-​Human Rights.

I worked as a public defender for 5 years, and became a full-​time Superior Court specialist in the Dedham Public Defenders’ office. In 2012, I was again honored by Cornell Law School with their Rising Star Award for Exemplary Public Service.
