Hyatt Regency Cambridge, Overlooking Boston

Great views and friendly service by the staff. What I don’t like is the $ 38 to park here overnight… For guests! There is parking on streets that on weekends it’s free! They tell you that there is a continental breakfast but they don’t tell you it’s $ 14-​$ 16. For the same continental breakfast that other hotels offer for free why should I have to pay here? Two ridiculous things I noticed. My room was spacious and very comfortable. The bed recharged my batteries from my trip from L.A. However, my final verdict is to book a room for the night somewhere else.

Food at breakfast buffet was awful. TV didn’t work in room and took several tech
visits and never got fixed, promised front desk refund never showed up.
There are better locations in Cambridge. Avoid this one.

Through some advance planning and the good luck of having a friend who works for Hyatt, I was able to score a reservation on an extremely busy multi college graduation weekend.
Eternally grateful, we checked in to our hotel on a busy Saturday evening where it was obvious that graduation parties were in full swing. As we were starving, we decided to skip the helpful Harvard Square suggestions of the reception clerk and headed instead to the hotel’s Zephyr restaurant.
I know, I know~~ hotel food vs. the eclective choices in Harvard Square (with a free shuttle to boot) BUT it was a Saturday night at 7pm and we were positively starving!
Surprisingly, the Zephyr’s menu offered a little something for everyone from smart little appy’s, to sandwiches, inventive salads and some nice entrees.
I had the flat iron steak with blue cheese, caramelized onions, broccolini and garlic mashed. Steak was cooked as asked– med rare and was well seasoned and, for the most part, tender. The accompanying sides were more than acceptable. My dining companions had the pasta Bolognese (pronounced «very good») and my daughter visiting from CA had the lob-​tah roll and ate every morsel! A shared strawberry shortcake for dessert was passable but a bit uninspired. Dinner for 3 with 1 glass of wine was $ 135, but hey– it’s a hotel in Boston, so I guess being fed and satisfied trumps being tired and hungry on a Saturday night.
The room accommodations in this older hotel in the city was fine. Nice view (we were on the 3^rd floor) of the Charles and Citgo sign. Room was clean but in need of a little updating. Amenities were really basic despite my «hotel connection» and I was lucky to have had my own shower cap packed in my ditty bag as none was provided.
Staff at the reception desk were welcoming and gracious as was the restaurant staff. Additional staff was present help navigate the various graduation venues. In particular, a valet named David was truly AMAZING to watch as he herded throngs of parents and other grad visitors onto the FREE shuttle to BU and other grad site on Sunday morning. He was just poetry in motion as he guided people and moved cars, taxis, Ubers and vans. Bravo David!
The lobby was equipped with a graduation backdrop mural for picture taking which was a very nice touch.
All in all, the Hyatt did a great job for graduation weekend. With a little room & lobby updating, they could reach that 5 star mark!

This hotel is just okay. It is not new and modern and could use an upgrade. My room was not that nice. Particularly, my bed did not have a fitted sheet on it. My staff was very nice. We checked in last minute and they were kind and accommodating.

This hotel seems extraordinary. It’s beautiful; the scenic view overlooking the Charles River is extraordinary – the design of the hotel is modern and chic. But for the price we paid, the view seems to be one of the only benefits of our stay. Our room was comfortable and cozy, but we could hear our neighbors clearing their throats next door. For over $ 250 per night, the only complimentary item in the room was tea and coffee… I think. I was nervous to touch them because I did not want to get a room charge. Waters are also there for $ 2 each; there is no mini fridge in the room either. Amenities are lacking in comparison to the price that is being paid. Also, $ 17 for an omelet at their restaurant?! I’m sorry, but that is Not something I will go for, no matter what. Additionally, aside from the hotel’s overpriced convenience store and knockoff Starbucks that serves $ 5 croissants and $ 7 watered-​down lattes, there is nothing within short walking distance to eat or drink anything. So, you are forced to either plan ahead, starve, or if in a rush, pay insane amounts for a skimpy meal. Overall, I appreciate places where they give what you pay for. This, for sure, is not one of them.

We booked our room through Hotwire, and as we’re finding more and more when we book this way, seem to have been given one of the hotels less-​desirable rooms. The room smelled faintly of cigarette smoke, but we chose not to complain, since we were only going to be staying one night.
That night we had difficulty sleeping during what sounded like a ferocious wind storm outside. The wind howled and there were almost constant whistling and moaning noises from the window, which I couldn’t seem to close any tighter. I lay in bed, unable to sleep, imagining carnage outside, and then I remembered that the flags outside the main entrance had been completely still when we drove up. I got up the next morning after a terrible nights sleep interrupted frequently by the howling and moaning of the wind, and saw that it still wasn’t remotely windy outside. Now I am wondering whether there are some noises related to the building (we were nowhere near the elevator shafts) that kept us awake.
On the plus side, we had breakfast at the hotel, and it was very good.

This venue topped all other wedding venues I’ve ever been to, and I’m not just saying that because I was the Bride at this venue. Catering Manager Robert Goehring was extremely attentive and accommodating. My husband and I went to the tasting and 4 of our 5 appetizer choices were items we didn’t even taste but just thought up on the spot and they promised they would make them for us. And they were delicious! Every detail was perfect, and our friends and family were blown away, especially at the view.
Rehearsal dinner was perfect, and they let us practice our dance alone in the reception hall the night before. Helen was in charge of myself and my husband the day of the wedding, and she was unbelievably accommodating. Anything we wanted, she got for us. She even offered to get a type of alcohol special for us, even though the venue didn’t serve it normally.
If you are looking to get married in Boston, this is the place to do it. We got married in 2014, and we recently went back to the hotel for a night on Valentine’s Day, and we got a personal note from Robert. Even after a year and a half, they are still attentive and caring. I didn’t feel like just another wedding couple that they served and kicked aside. The whole experience was a dream. Ten thumbs up.

I stayed at numerous Hyatt resorts as well as hotels by far this is the worst. I do not want to take away from the customer service because the employees were extremely nice. The facility is not up to par to what I think of Hyatt. It was so gross it made me feel like bugs were crawling on me at night. I was so embarrassed I don’t even want to have guests over. There’s two other I believe in town you should try them. On top of that I did the survey because I’m a club member in the general manager just keep sending me emails referring to me as a male (grrr.smh)asking me to give her a call and I’ve given her three phone calls and I have yet to get a phone call back from claudia. Have a trip coming up in New York and I’m staying at the Hyatt I pray to God it’s not the same experience because it will be my last stay with Hyatt.

This hotel is clearly resting on its laurels as part of the Hyatt brand, and it did not live up to expectations in the slightest. Reputations must be earned, just like those of your neighbours at Harvard and MIT. My visit earned the Hyatt a grade of F on all counts. We stayed in room 425 on NYE2016.
Things started poorly from the start, and we almost left to go to another hotel, but we could not find anything quickly enough in the area. I acknowledge that due to it being NYE, the hotel was extremely busy. When we arrived, the bellhop initially helped us get our luggage into the hotel, noting his concerns as to whether or not we would be «allowed» to take our cooler into our room. Then he disappeared during the lengthy check-​in process.
When we went to check in, we were informed that we were booked into a 2 double bed room for our romantic evening on NYE, even though we were supposed to have a king room reserved. They refused to do anything to help us out, saying that they were «completely full,» aside from offering to let us leave and tell Priceline to give us a refund, because it was «their mistake.» They also tried to help us search for another hotel, disparaging anything that was under a 4-​star hotel in the process, due to «not having as good of a clientele.» Meanwhile, it was NYE, so there really weren’t any other viable options.
We sucked it up and checked into the room. They required that every single person who was entering the hotel show ID and be listed on the guest list. Why is this necessary with upscale clientele? Then they asked us to declare whether or not we had any alcohol in our possessions, as if they were the Border Guard, citing rules that Cambridge did not allow alcohol in hotel rooms. Really, Puritans? It’s been 400 years!
By the time we finally got to the room, the bellhop was long gone, and we couldn’t figure out what to do with the luggage carrier we’d borrowed, so we ended up wheeling it back into the elevator and sending it back down. I hope they found it.
The room was absolutely nothing to write home about. They couldn’t have possibly put us closer to the elevator, and I don’t even know why they would need to cut corners to the extent to torture anyone with the elevator’s incessant dinging at the Hyatt. Even 2 ½ star hotels don’t do that. Also, the room didn’t even have a mini fridge or a microwave. It looked like it needed a remodel, and some things were dirty or in poor condition (see pictures). Also, the thermostat was broken. The room was epically cold. After trying repeatedly to increase the temperature and failing, feeling nothing could be done because we already knew there was, «nothing that could be done since they were all booked up,» I shivered all night.
Really, the only positives about this experience were that you could find free parking on the street near the MIT police station (do not pay for their ridiculous valet parking), the hotel-​provided toiletries, and the proximity to Boston attractions a short cab ride away. Maybe they’re normally nice and just turned into the Gestapo for NYE, but you’d have to pay me to stay here again.

Great hotel to stay at. Wasn’t the best hotel I’ve stayed at but it did its job. Taxi cabs to downtown Boston is about $ 13.00 which isn’t to bad butttttt that was our main destination so the prices racked up. They should have a shuttle or something it isn’t far at all but whateverrrrrrr at least they have free shuttles for places in Cambridge.
The bed had scratched above the headboard and a couple of stains on the sheets but nothing to bothersome. But of course not ideal. Besides that the view was amazing! Partial lake (35 $ UPCHARGE if you want a lake view) Nice comfy King bed, comfy bathroom — but no bathroom fan so not much privacy of you have to youknowwhat lol. Great water pressure and gets nice and hot! Tons of mirrors and a little like makeup desk
The staff is very friendly and helped us out a lot. The food prices are wayyyyyy wayyy overpriced. Two eggs and home fries are like 17 $ lol nooo thank you! Go to Brookline Lunch for breakfast you can get wayyyy more then two eggs and home fries for 5 $! Idk what fantasy these people live in but their eggs better be golden if you’re charging me 17 $! Also the little store they have, their mini umbrellas are 35 $ and literally broke the second I opened it up so waste of money obvi.
But the hotel does light up at night so when our phones died, we were able to walk along the water (that was frozen and beautiful) from downtown (30−40min walk) and the lighting of the hotel guided us our way back (thank god)
All in all the stay was ok. Worth the price if you’re staying in the area if you plan on going DT a lot I suggest getting a local hotel or else your vacation money will be spent in cabs

We got married at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, and we are so happy we chose them as a venue!
We checked out many venues in the Boston area, but the Hyatt won us over with two main things: First, the view from the Charle View Ballroom can not be beat. It’s a beautiful view of the Boston skyline, and is breathtaking no matter what the weather is like outside. Second, and equally if not more importantly, we felt like we were in the best event planning hands in the city with Ashley Kirouac. She is incredibly friendly, smart, and professional. She managed the event planning process at the Hyatt from A to Z and her expertise really shined. We always felt like she had things under control, and trusted her completely! If we had to do it all over again, we wouldn’t change a thing.
Aside from the view and event management, the Hyatt itself is an all around fantastic hotel with great accommodations, food, and service. Any of our guests who stayed at the hotel were raving about their visits. It is conveniently located on Memorial Drive, just across the river from Boston. It is easy for guests to get there by car, cab, or public transportation, and ideally located for any guests who want to play tourists while they are in town. There is a Starbucks in the lobby which is perfect for anyone who needs coffee close at hand!
Overall pricing was fair compared to other event reception pricing we were seeing in the area. Similar to some comparable venues, and more competitive pricing than some as well.
After our reception, we went to the hotel bar until they closed. A lot of us went down to keep celebrating, and there was ample room for a crowd, both inside and outside on the patio if the weather is nice.
We are so happy we chose they Hyatt, and are so thankful to Ashley and her team for being amazing!

The Hyatt Regency Cambridge was okay and served its purpose but nothing makes me want to rush back. There’s a lot of work being done at the hotel and although the work is inevitable, it’s a pain to deal with. To get to our room on the noisy second floor, we had to walk through the dining room. To use the coffee maker in our room, we had to take it out of the bathroom because the bathroom outlet wasn’t working, and then discovered that the coffee is horrible. There’s a glass partition to keep noise from the dining room and bar away from our room, but we were woken up several times by people walking into the door or slamming something into the wall while they were trying to open the door. This includes hotel staff. As other reviewers have said, the hotel really isn’t near anything so you’ll want to take the shuttle to one of the four stops that it will make.
But having said that: The bed was comfortable, the shower worked, the bill was correct, the HVAC worked well without being too noisy, the staff couldn’t do enough to help us check in or check out, and there was a bar really close (maybe too close) to our room.
I’ll probably look to stay somewhere more convenient next time I’m in town but if this Hyatt Regency is the most cost effective option, I won’t rule it out.

If you’re in town for a conference at this hotel, its a good place to be. There aren’t a lot of options in the area for food or fun, but they can’t really fix that. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are large and can have some spectacular views.
You shouldn’t probably stay here if you want to see Boston or Cambridge, as its pretty far out of the hustle and bustle, but if that’s your style than its perfect for you.
I liked my week here, I’d stay here again.

The hotel is not bad. The problem is that we had asked for a king bed, they gave us twin bed. We asked for high floor, quiet room; they gave us 3^rd floor, noisy room. We asked for river view, they gave us parking view…
There are some good aspects too. Location is good. You can use the complementary shuttle service and the bar has a nice view to Boston…

This was the perfect hotel for the location and price. Nice cleans and quiet room for under $ 200 a night while we visit MIT. Room is small but comfortable and clean. Lobby isn’t a thing of beauty but functional. The sundries store is very well stocked with Starbucks, snacks and lots of healthy options. The gym has an indoor pool, treadmills, elliptical a and a weight room. I enjoyed the work out plus relaxing by the pool on the outdoor deck.
While the lobby isn’t pretty, off of the lobby is this delightful garden where u had a coffee.
reviews talk about out of dated rooms but perhaps there has been an upgrade because our room was very nice. I would return.

I spent last weekend in this lovely hotel. The staff COULD NOT have been more gracious, or attentive. The food was routinely delicious, every meal was well prepared and fresh, including the breakfast buffet. It’s not cheap, and it’s not in Boston (I found Cambridge to be charming, and friendlier than Boston) I am adding a letter I sent to the hotel upon my return home.
Dear Sir/​Madame:
My wife and I recently completed a 5 Day 4 Night stay at your hotel. I can honestly say it was one of the most pleasant experiences we have had in a hotel. We had to start our trip to Boston early because of not one, but two deaths in our immediate families. Needless to say when we arrived at your establishment it was with heavy hearts, and our minds far away.
We were coming to Boston, so that my wife’s father (a life-​long Red Sox fan) could see his team play in storied Fenway Park. When my wife told your staff about the reason for the trip, and also about our very recent losses, your staff could have not been more sympathetic, or gracious. They offered us free breakfasts for the length of our stay. We were so appreciative. Later when your housekeeping didn’t get our room tidied up, you complimented our parking, and sent a lovely fruit basket.
The graciousness of your staff in light of our losses, and the response of housekeeping in light of a slight failure was outstanding. No one is perfect, and no one expects perfection, but it is how we respond to mistakes that define us.
I’m also including several favorite books from my library, to replace the one I took from your lending library.

Once again, if you are looking for a very nice place to stay in the Boston/​Cambridge area, you could do far worse that this lovely place.

Location: It is not super convenient if you wanna hangout on the Boston side (across the Charles River). Originally I was thinking walking 2 miles to Back Bay wouldn’t be too bad, but in 85 degree weather, it was no bueno. Maybe if you go at a different time of the year when it’s less hot and not too cold in the winter, it would be ok to do that walk. However, note that after the 2 miles you would probably continue walking wherever you go. Back Bay to North End, that whole journey is about 2 miles and everything you prob wanna check out is in that 2 mile span. We ended up cabbing, which was about $ 15 one way. They do offer complimentary shuttles, but the drop offs were mostly on the Cambridge side, with one in Boston, but not even that close to the areas we were going to (like all the touristy check it out spots). We only used the shuttle service once and it was to Harvard. They should consider doing one location in Back Bay.
Rooms: The hotel is not super new, semi not as updated. I guess I’m a little spoiled too coming from NYC hotels right before this. Nothing wrong with it, just not modern or anything. Fairly clean.
Prices: I got a deal on this place, otherwise it was quoted at around $ 300/​night. That is way too expensive for this location and the quality of the hotel. You could easily stay in Back Bay for that price. But since I got it at a much lower rate, I guess it makes up for the shortfalls. If I got to do it again though I may consider not even at the lower rate, more so bc of the inconvenience.

The hotel and staff were wonderful… and I loved the layout of the room. It was one of the few places I’ve stayed that had a nice vanity area to apply make-​up and do your hair. The beds were comfy and it was nice and quiet on my floor.
Another plus was I didn’t pay for an upgraded room with a view of the Charles River but actually had one (if I looked out my window to the right). The Hyatt is in a great location if walking along the river is what you want to do — it was a bit off the beaten path in terms of getting to Harvard Square and more bustling areas of Cambridge though.

The Hotel rooms are small and dated, therefore quite unappealing (given the rather expensive price point). Carpeting is unattractive and dingy. Also the toilets are old and flushes don’t work well. However the rooms are clean so it’s a decent place to rest your head at night.
I got upgraded with my Hyatt Platinum card and got a river facing view, which is a very nice plus.
So why a 5 star rating? Simply put SERVICE, especially from one person in particular… Kenny Legagneur.
Kenny (by my interpretation of his role) is your all in one Hotel Operator/​Customer satisfaction person. He answers the calls that you place to the hotel for service from your room, and I have never found a more pleasant and generously accommodating hotel rep in my 1000+ hotel stays across the globe. He was extremely competent and understanding of my requests, made excellent suggestions, and absolutely made sure I felt like a valued guest. He even followed up on each call ensuring I had exactly what I asked for (carpet slippers, water, and a mini fridge for my daughter’s formula). Clearly he is overqualified for the job, but it is to the guests’ advantage.
Thank you Kenny for ensuring that I remain a Hyatt loyalist forever.
