This place looks dirty. The staff is fast working, but are also overworked, so be prepared to be patient. And with them trying to go the whole nine yards with Indian cuisine, they don’t end up doing anything well. Between the poor service, the long wait times and the meh food, I won’t be coming back.

Definitely the chef doesn’t know how to cook. Pav bhaji is disastrous. Rasmalai smelled funny and texture was sticky. One star for the pani puri. Please avoid this place at any cost.

My girlfriend and I went here craving Indian food. What we got was an innovative and exciting interpretation of south Indian food with a modern twist. The portions are gigantic, all the meat is tender and flavorful, and the service is fast and polite. We’re going back soon!

Dosa Factory was a positive experience with fast working staff and good clean food. I had the masala dosa which had fresh potatoes that were well seasoned with different spices. The dosa was also warm and crispy at the ends with the middle softening due to the steam. Side dishes were light but added to the experience. Not much to complain about.

I’ve read most of the reviews, and most complain about the cleanliness of the place… I mean, what do you expect? You’re walking into this super tiny store that is an Indian supermarket, an Asian bao place, and a dosa place. I would be surprised if I walked in to see this clean and nice restaurant, so to start off, it really isn’t that bad. Probably one of the better dosas I’ve had in the states. The crêpe itself tastes a bit more buttery(or maybe some other type of oil?). I got the lamb dosa and there were 5 tiny piece of lamb(which was very VERY delicious). For what I paid for, i definitely think it can be cheaper, but nonetheless not a bad place, but not super exceptional either.

So we thought the masala dosa was actually really good. But come on, $ 12+ for 1 dosa? We would probably come a few more times for sure, but 100% not for a $ 12 dosa. Not sure why more places that have a decent product don’t consider this in pricing or why people are willing to pay that. Let’s stop paying crazy prices and just maybe these places will stop overcharging. Won’t be back, thank you

I had the chicken tikka masala and it was not good to say the least. The portion was big and the food looks nice, but my main problem is that the chicken had a good amount of fat on it. The meat should be lean and you shouldn’t taste any fat. The curry had too much vinegar and it was pretty clear from the after taste. Maybe there are other things on their menu that is good, but the chicken tikka masala was very underwhelming to say the least.

First impressions: this place is a wreck. Everything seems to to be falling apart every where you look, grimy tables, clutter everywhere, holes in the walls, you name it. Several Unilocalers mentioned seeing roaches — I did not, but I have zero problem believing they are there. Now that I’m done bashing the location, the food: I ordered chicken tikka masala with rice and a salad. The portion was very generous considering the price, but unfortunately it was served heaped on a metal tray that reminded me of what you’d see in prison. The taste was good at first, very authentic, but as I kept eating I felt more and more gross, until I realized that that the masala sauce was little more than a deluge of oil. Greasiest Indian I’ve ever had, served in a matching environment. I won’t be back.

Sporting surplus Greco-Roman wagon wheels and towers of tortilla makers, Dosa Factory(DF), the Indian anchor of chaotic Central Square, has surprises around every turn. Upon entering the narrow, high-aspect-ratio establishment, one first encounters a market that features not only tortilla presses, but also infinite pink cupcake-store boxes, DF swag, IKEA flowers, and decorative glassware with ornamental lentils. An awe-inspiring graffiti-esque«DOSAFACTORY» mural, evoking memories of 90s Marvel comics, stretches across the wall in the dining area. The standard Bollywood Hit Channel(very dirty) blared from the TVs, which to our surprise and delight was just one of a vast, NASA-like array of monitors that featured the seemingly thousands of menu items — high technology had apparently reached the central-Cambridge Indian scene! But it remained to be seen whether high gastronomy would follow suit… Being a large party, we were giddy with the anticipation of the array of items we could try, and, truth be told, we were not disappointed by the plethora of strange concoctions that could be(but ultimately would not be) ordered, including meatloaf dosa and Peking dosa(with kimchi‽)…and not only that, but at least one item on the menu was available for the bargain price of $.300(extra significant figure included!). And then the food started to roll in. Lots of it. And to be fair, a few of the dishes were arguably good: the chicken korma($ 9) was surprisingly spicy, the baingan bharta($ 10) was good, and the eigendish, aloo ghobi($ 10), was actually quite tasty — impressively spicy, with good potato cookitude and with tasty(albeit vaguely undercooked) cauliflower. The mango lassi($ 3) was also acceptable, but made the typical East Coast error of including ice. The vast majority of the dishes, alas, were disappointing. The garlic naan($ 4) was too thin, the mysore masala dosa($ 10) was full of uncooked onions, the chicken vindaloo($ 9) was utterly devoid of spice, the pakora($ 4.5) and lamb curry($ 11) were unremarkable, the cholle bhatura($ 4) was underinflated and sub-plasmatic, and the sambar managed to be both tasteless and over-salinated. To add insult to injury, all of the dosas we ordered were cold — suggesting that the actual Factory of Dosas was located off-site. And then there was the ginger honey dosa($ 8): the supposed«dessert dosa,» the original version of which had evidently had cheese substituted for honey, included massive chunks of raw ginger, and was accompanied by both sambar and chutney…‽ Luckily we received a replacement, but while v2.0 included ample honey, it had only homeopathic amounts of ginger(perhaps they had used up their supply on the previous cheese-based travesty?). Unfortunately, rumors of DF’s decline in recent times appear to be true. Despite the interesting ambiance, the array of mild, medium, and plasmatic missteps warrant a mere two-samosa rating, at non-bargain two-rupee prices. Whether DF’s mediocrity has spread across the Charles to their new location on Newbury Street will be left for a future Road Review. Suffice it to say that, while we suspect that many decent Indian restaurants dispense mass-produced fare, this Factory has yet to perfect its assembly line.

Came here to get a quick bite and dessert. I ordered the dinner plate with the chicken tikka masala and the chicken vindaloo, and the plate comes with rice, naan, salad and raita. The rice portion was huge, but the meat dishes were weird. The menu says that the tikka masala is white meat, but the chicken was definitely not white meat. Also, the vindaloo only had one piece of potato and maybe two chunks of meat. The gulab jamun was very good, but it’s hard to screw that up. All in all, I would only come back for appetizers and the gulab jamun.

We went in here on a whim after seeing a show in central sq. My dosa certainly tasted like it was made at a factory weeks ago. It wasn’t freshly made and was a pre made warmed up crêpe with forgettable masala stuffing. The aloo chat had stale paperdi. Slow staff, not very clean. Pretty disappointing. Regret that we didn’t check Unilocal before we walked in.

I’ve been here only once, but I don’t think I’m going there anytime soon. First of all, the place is very depressing. It has a very heavy stench which makes it impossible to sit inside. They also offer outside seating in the backyard; but the backyard basically is a tiny balcony overseeing a back alley. In addition to those, they got our orders completely wrong. I asked for a chicken tikka masala, and I somehow ended up with a plain dosa. My friend ordered some kind of kebab, and he got a dosa as well. As far as I remember, the prices are not that cheap, either. I think places like Punjabi Dhaba offer much better food for almost the same price.

The place is claustrophobic but then you cant ask too much because its downtown and you need to manage with whatever you have if you intend to keep cost low. We entered the restaurant from front door which was a grocery store at front and restaurant in the back. Seating arrangement is okie dokie. The table which we were asked to sit had leftover spilled on it from previous patron. The server came a bit late and cleaned it right before serving us food. The dosa is made on the same pan or hotplate on which non veg(egg dosa) is prepared because I could taste the egg on my veg Masala Dosa. The dosa was not even given a little sprinkle of ghee(butter) or oil. It was way too dry. The masala was not prepared separately but was tasting like crushed Aloo tikkis of ‘Ragada Pattice’. Sambar was too watery and had been prepared with lots and lots of tamarind. The second dish I had ordered was Pav Bhaji. Coming from Mumbai, I know how Pav bhaji tastes. This one was not even remotely close. The Pav bhaji in Mumbai is served with spoon of butter at the centre of Bhaji(Veg curry), nice reddish brown or at times golden brown Pav(Buns). Their is finely chopped Onion, Cilantro and lemon wedge on side plus a Papad(not all restaurants serve papad). The dish that came in front had stale Pavs(Buns). Curry did not have butter, not even a hint. The sides included Pickle(served with main course Indian meal), Veggie salad(Bell paper, Lettuce, Onion strands) and tomato chutney(sauce). The ambience is mediocre, food not fulfilling and service deterring. The only plus side is portion is good. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Disgusting is the first word that pops to mind for this place. I don’t even know what i was thinking when I decided to step foot into this place. It’s dirty with cockroaches everywhere. I felt like i won the lottery when the first seat we took and a freaking roach crawled up on the wall next to us. Barf much?! Should have been a sign to get up and leave. But my brain was no longer functioning and it was my stomach calling the shots. But once brain took over we got up to leave but by then we finished half our food and felt disgusted. I just don’t know why in the world I didn’t even look at the reviews when checking into this place. Stupid stomach. My brain is gonna call all the shots from now on.

One of my absolute favorite places, such incredible Indian food, makes me so nostalgic for my moms cooking. Have a ton of less common Indian street foods, like all sorts of chaat and paani poori, that I LOVE and haven’t been able to find anywhere else!!! LOVEIT!!! Best place to take friends.

Worst food and milkshake I ever had. I will never come back to this place. Dosa, uttapam, falooda and milkshake… We tried everything and it was worst ever. I won’t even give a single star. Sambhar was only coloured water.

This is probably the most affordable and tasty Indian food I’ve had in the cambridge area. ***note — Indian food in generally has never been cheap where I get it. However, at Dosa Factory, for around $ 10, you get a massive dosa which is this thin, Indian crêpe with a large amount of potato-meat filling. The dosa even extends off the metal tray! We also ordered garlic naan which was pretty chewy and flavorful — just the way I like it. Complaints: very strong smelling and not the best ambience.

Got dosas to go from here — by the time I walked to my apartment, less than one block away, they were super soggy. The masala was ok, the sambhar was not good, and the chutney had a slight sour tanginess to it — definitely not what coconut chutney should taste like! The nice thing is that it’s connected to a tolerable Indian grocery store. Also during diwali, the owner and his entire family were churning out so many Indian sweets! It was pretty cute to see all the kids helping out, and in return for my buying some fresh jalebi(surprisingly pretty decent), I got a free shirt! Albeit one that’s approximately 4 sizes too large for me, but it did make me smile!

Flour Bakery was closed at 6 on a Saturday, so we hopped into Dosa Factory instead. I’ve never had dosa before, so it was an interesting experience. These things are huge! My chicken tikka dosa was good, and thought the portion size was decent for the relatively high price given the venue. Would give this another star if the employees actually smiled :)
