Great service, friendly staff! Fixed my broken frames in the time I grabbed some lunch.
Right in the heart of Central Square, will definitely use again.

Dr. Murphy is very nice and professional. My issue is with my glasses. I went back twice and finally gave up, so I essentially just tossed $ 300 away. The first pair caused me to see double, the second pair wasn’t right either, and the last pair didn’t have the amber tint. I don’t know why it was such a problem. I now just use standard drug store readers with no problem.

I bent the frame of my glasses and the owner fixed them no charge; even after I let him know I had bought them from another store. I’ll be buying my next pair from here when my giant head bends my current glasses into oblivion.

Being an admitted fan of Custom Eyes, I would like to provide some clarification about Dr. Murphy’s qualification as referenced in another review. She is a licensed doctor of optometry. As such she holds a degree and license under which auspices she can diagnose vision acuity problems, prescribe corrective lenses and contacts, perform eye testing including testing for diseases of the eye and conditions, and prescribe certain medications. This degree requires four years of training at an optometry school, preceded by 3 or more years of college. Optometrists are not medical doctors.
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who along with college completes an additional 8 years of medical training. It is they, in addition to the services an optometrists provides, who can treat all eye diseases and prescribe any necessary medications, perform eye surgery and may be involved with scientific research on causes and cures for eye disease and vision disorders.
So please, set your sights accordingly.

Kevork and Dr Murphy are GREAT. I have been to many other eye doctors & eyewear places before coming here. I’ve been coming for over 10 years now & refer people all of the time.
The only problem I have had has been by the young guy who answers the phone. He is just not a people person. He’s condescending & rude. But he is a relative, I’ve been told.

I don’t know if they recently changed their policy, but I just called and they said the contact lens fitting now costs $ 95 (as of today 12÷8÷15). They also said it was cosmetic, so insurance can not cover it. I’m not sure if I was given wrong information, but that seems wrong. My vision benefit states that it can include the contact lens fitting with a co-​pay, so it sounds like Custom Eyes is making themselves an exception to this. (They are, in fact, listed as an in-​network provider by my insurance, and they do accept insurance for the eye exam.)
I am looking into other optometrists now, as this can be a sizable cost difference, and I also find it misleading that they claim the contact lens fitting is a «cosmetic» procedure that the insurance doesn’t cover (as this is clearly false).

I love everything about Custom Eyes. Great care and attention, cool frame styles, excellent treatment. My whole family goes for contact lenses and glasses, and we wouldn’t consider going anywhere else.

Just had an eye exam today with Dr. Murphy. First of all, this place is great because their contact lens fitting fee is only $ 70. Other optometrists I was looking at charge upwards of $ 120! Secondly, Dr. Murphy is super nice and personable. She was very thorough in her exam. When I arrived, they found out that they actually didn’t accept my insurance, even though over the phone they said they did. Because I had already come for my appointment, Dr. Murphy was super accommodating and agreed to perform my exam and contact lens fitting for only $ 80. I was already planning to pay $ 70 for the contact lens fitting, so I was very pleased with that.
I am also a hilariously squeamish person and was starting to feel faint after I saw the pictures of the insides of my eyes and started feeling faint. Dr. Murphy and the staff were so kind and patient and really took care of me until I felt better. I was very happy with this place and I am going to talk to my insurance so that I can hopefully come to them again!

Kevork is the greatest guy I’ve met, very patient and polite. Dr. Murphy is also very nice person!

Fantastic service. I’ve only got repairs done here but the experience has been superb. He provided new lenses for my dad, who was visiting from India and broke the lenses of his only pair of glasses, in a day and at a reasonable price. Also managed to find a missing part to resuscitate a rather expensive and favorite pair of glasses for me. So helpful!

Dr. Murphy is smart, personable and really easy to work with. Kevork is super nice and makes it a point to learn your name and chat with you while you wait, and he’s great at helping you pick glasses that make you look amazing.
The only problem is the wait itself– I’ve been here three times and never been seen at the time I was booked for, and today I watched another customer have to rebook her appointment because the 10 – 15 extra minute wait would make her late to her next engagement. It’s worth it to me because I like how I’m treated by staff, but I recommend expecting to not be seen until 20 minutes past your appt time so you don’t book your day too tightly. Things happen, some people take longer to see than others and Dr. Murphy treats her patients like people– not like time slots.

I just bought a pair of TC Charton eyeglasses online and had my prism lenses from another pair of eyeglasses… but no amount of sweetalking would make those lenses get into the new eyeglasses. But I knew they were supposed to fit since their original home was in the exact same model of TC Charton. I’m guessing that each pair of eyeglasses varies in size, despite being the same model… but I digress.
Basically, Kevork was super sweet and used his handy dandy machine and got them in for me. Free of charge — I offered to pay, but he wasn’t having it.
I haven’t decided if I will come back here for my eye exams yet (I have super high maintenance eyes that require specialists), but I am quite impressed by the kindness and customer service!

I first came here four or five years ago when I worked right next door. After going again last weekend, Dr. Murphy remembered me! She’s always been very nice, and takes time to explain the hows and whys of the exam.
Both times I have bought my frames from them as well. Kevork is so amazingly nice and warm. I have a giant head and he helped me pick out the perfect frames after I was ready to give up.
It’s a real casual and laid-​back atmosphere right in the heart of Central Square. Even the front desk guy is great, and talks to you like a friend. My only tiny complaint is that they’re always busy and sometimes you have to wait a little longer than planned, but it’s not enough to knock a star off.
It feels like family when I’m here, and I hope to keep giving them my business in the future.

Excellent service, wonderful eye doctor in house, very friendly while remaining professional. Glasses are pricey but that’s to be expected. A very good experience here. I would return anytime I need an exam/​new glasses!

First off, Dr Murphy is awesome, nothing wrong with her skills whatsoever. HOWEVER the problem is with the rest of the experience
Had an issue last year, decided to give them a second chance… BUT not any more!!!
Last year was quoted $ 167 for the balance on the frames and lenses… and this is the BIGGEST PROBLEM… My Insurance company said I’m only supposed to pay 77 (brought in the claim that was through my provider and they were ready to charge me the 167)…wtf.
Realizing people make mistakes, especially with billing, I went for a contact fitting (which is covered) and it should only have been a $ 10 copay, they charged me $ 70 and didn’t even file a CLAIM to determine the amount i should have paid !!! (and didn’t give me an itemized receipt for anything)
Something is very sketchy here when it comes to billing… Im getting my script from them and ordering elsewhere, WILL NOT be going back!

My husband and I tried so hard to find an eye doctor for me since I really needed a pair of new glasses. After checking with our friends around and some online reviews, we finally chose Custom eyes!

he staff there is extremely nice and knowledgeable. He firstly explained a lot of details regarding my insurance questions on the phone patiently. When I came in, he treated me more like a friend and introduced me to Dr, Murphy.
She is absolutely great! She is very nice and taking care of my eyes very carefully. She understood I may not understand a lot of terms of meds. So she explained slowly and clearly to me every detail. She gave me a lot of options so I can pick most fit treatment for my eyes. She also talked to me to ease me when I was a little nervous about my situation, just like a very nice friend!
I should have written this review sooner so many more people can know Custom eyes is one of best choices if you need to see an eye doctor or need a pair of high quality glasses!

Dr. Murphy is fantastic. I hate things near my eyes and bright light make them water like crazy. I’ve had eye doctors laughing as I tried to sit still for a glaucoma test.
Kevork is incredibly nice and was very helpful in picking out frames. He is nothing short of super friendly whenever you walk in the door. When I picked up my glasses, he was on vacation, and it took me about a year to actually go back in and get them adjusted (procrastination at its best). When I did, I was in and out in three minutes, with better fitting glasses and feeling good after some quality service.
You can also schedule appointments online, which is pretty handy.

I cannot say enough good things about Custom Eyes. I had been looking for new frames for over a year; I tried samples from Warby Parker multiple times and went to at least 10 different glasses stores in Boston alone. At the end of the day, I still find the experience of trying on more than 5 pairs of glasses at once to be invaluable, so I prefer to buy my glasses in person than online.
Custom Eyes has a very wide selection of frames (the most I’ve seen in any optical store in Boston). They have frames that will be perfect if you’re on a budget, and they also have nicer frames that I haven’t seen in other stores in the area (including Jai Kudo and Martin & Martin). Kervork is extremely nice and honest; he’ll tell you if glasses fit your face or not (and why). He helped me pick out a new pair of frames in less than thirty minutes, which was record speed (as I usually take a long time going through frames on my own). It took about a week to get my glasses. Throughout the process, Custom Eyes was very professional and friendly.
I would highly recommend Custom Eyes to anyone that is looking for a pair of distinctive frames accompanied by excellent service.

Kevork and Dr. Murphy run a very tight ship. I was very pleased with both the quality of the exam, the selection of eye glasses, and the promptness and professionalism of the entire office.
Deciding on a medical offices is one of the more challenging parts of taking care of yourself. You want to be well-​informed about credentials and services, and you want to be comfortable when you are there. But, above all, you want your gut instict to tell you that you’re in the right place. I’ve learned to trust my gut, so I’m trusting my eyes to Custom Eyes.

Kevork will take care of you real well… After a less than stellar experience at another eye care office, I was pleased to find someone so straightforward…
My fiancée did a lot of research and ended up deciding to try out these guys. She ordered her contacts on Sunday and got them on Tuesday (she’s got astigmatism and always has to get ‘custom’ contacts).
Since I just lost my glasses, I decided to give them a try too. Vision plans are horrible and pointless, don’t get them. VSP (my vision plan) doesn’t like to pay the offices money, so they’ll cut the lenses themselves… ends up taking a week. But my lenses came in today, and Kevork had them in my frames within half an hour. What a boss.
Going to go back to get some contacts I think, reasonable prices for Boston, and great service.
