This is a really great little non-​profit community organization. They offer a program called CityLinks where volunteers tutor high school students from other countries. They provide all kinds of interesting seminars for the students on career choices and US government and college preparation. More than that, they provide a home away from home for teenagers who have so many stressors to deal with – learning a new language, culture shock, homesickness, the traumas of their past (many are refuges.) They also provide these students with volunteer mentors. I have just started volunteering as a tutor – it is a fantastic opportunity for me as I love learning about other cultures and I have been interested in a career as a educator/​tutor but have no previous experience. If you are looking for a place to volunteer I highly recommend Cambridge Community Services – they are looking for both tutors and mentors. You do not need to have experience as they host training sessions. But be aware that you will be making a semester-​long weekly commitment.
