Description

History

Established in 2001.

Boston Classical Soo Bahk Do was founded by PJ Steyer on September 22nd, 2001. Not just any martial arts school, BCSBD is a certified Moo Duk Kwan studio whose mission is to work towards human development and peace on personal, community, and worldwide levels.

On the personal level, we follow the philosophy of Strong Inside, Gentle Outside. We train in an atmosphere of strong discipline. We stress self DEFENSE, not offense, and we are not competition-focused, (although we do offer the opportunity to participate in such events).

In our community, Boston Classical Soo Bahk Do is committed to the reduction and prevention of violence, and the promotion of inter-cultural awareness. Our aim is to help men, women, children, and people with special needs of all ages to grow and develop in a positive manner.

Worldwide, as a part of the Moo Duk Kwan, we are directly involved in an international effort towards World Peace by improving human relations through the practice of Soo Bahk Do.

A 5th-Degree midnight blue belt, PJ Steyer began his Soo Bahk Do training Jan. 2, 1986, and has been teaching since 1991. Master Steyer has also traveled extensively to enrich his study of Soo Bahk Do. He has trained under dozens of masters from all across the United States and England. He has also trained for over a year at international headquarters while living in Seoul, South Korea.

In addition to his Soo Bahk Do study, Master Steyer is an acupuncturist and herbalist in Inman Square, Cambridge. He holds a B.A. in Literature from Brown University, and a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture. Before becoming an acupuncturist, he worked in the field of Special Needs for 12 years.
