A part of the community for 25 years (under a few different names), Battenkill Books is a local, independent bookstore selling general interest, new books in the Battenkill Valley. The store offers a broad range of books from current bestsellers to the classics, and from history and romance to gardening and cooking, and more. We have a large selection of books on local history and the surrounding area. Battenkill Books also carries maps, gifts, cards, and an eclectic selection of magazines.

I wish this small bookstore a lot of success. It can be tough finding a mix of books and magazines and related items when your inventory has to be limited. I think they do a fine job here among best-​sellers, a small magazine area, many specialty books, and a children’s section in the back. They also have a small selection of discounted used books in a small «Sidewalk Sale» bookcase on wheels which can be placed either outside or in the front of the store. There’s also a couple of comfortable chairs near the window should you wish to sit for a bit. It’s worth a visit.

This is my favorite bookstore anywhere. I go out of my way to visit it whenever I’m in town (I live 3 hours away). They specialize in the gardening, DIY, mindful life sort of books I love. They really support their local artists/​writers. There’s a whole section devoted to them. They make online orders (sometimes with author autographs) so easy and they have anything a bibliophile might want or need. Oh, and did I mention the people are really nice too?

I had read about this bookstore on Jenna Woginrich’s blog, so I had to buy her new book when I came to visit for a workshop. Nice staff, great local selection. I try to only but books from small places. Without indie bookstores, we are all doomed to a united states of generica.

Ballston Lake, NY
They’ve moved and are now in a bigger, brighter storefront on the main drag in Cambridge.
This bookstore still boasts a very thoughtful selection of new and used books. The staff is friendly and welcoming.
New additions include a couple of places to sit by the front windows and a self-​serve coffee/​tea/​hot cocoa station.
