Utilizing digital imagery analysis and prescribing, a comprehensive range of diagnostic testing allows for each patient to have a comprehensive solution to their vision needs. With the foundation and experience from a long-​standing practice, Dr. McQuillan is also consistently adopting new technology that allows for more specialized treatment plans. From infants to seniors, Dr. McQuillan and his super friendly staff are dedicated to making sure each patient feels comfortable and that we spend as much time with each patient as needed.

History

Established in 1980.

Dr. McQuillan first opened his practice on St. Patrick’s Day in 1980 and has been serving the greater Ventura County area including Camarillo, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Ojai, Newbury Park, and surrounding areas ever since.

Dr. McQuillan also serves on the Board of Directors of the Heart of Hope Ministry. It is through this organization which he annually volunteers a week in Romania treating poor villagers and orphans.

Business Owner

He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor’s in Biology. He continued his studies at the Southern California College of Optometry and received his Doctor of Optometry-​Summa Cum Laude as the Salutatorian of his class. At the State University of New York, State College of Optometry he completed his Residency in Vision Training. Dr. McQuillan also regularly attends continuing-​education courses to stay current in research and treatment options.

Dr. McQuillan is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the California Optometric Association.

Dr. McQuillan was awarded the Apple of Excellence Award for a Medical Professional from the Camarillo Health Care District.

— Most expensive lenses I’ve ever purchased, even with «good insurance» (VSP)
— staff was a bit «forceful» during the pre-​testing
— not a great selection of frames
I have very bad eyesight, so I need to get the high-​index lenses because there is so much glass sitting on my face. I had a routine eye exam, but the assistant working all the machines didn’t exactly have a gentle touch, maybe she’s new, but she was rushing me around this little room, blinding me with this test, shoving my face against that machine to get a picture of my eye, prying my eyelids open and cramming my face agains the hard plastic. This isn’t my first rodeo but damn this lady was really manhandling my face. Not a deal breaker, just awkward, uncomfortable, and a bit dizzying.
Dr. McQuillan was kind, a bit soft-​spoken but a gentleman, and thorough.
After the exam, I purchased my frames at the eyeglass factory across the way because they have a better frames selection for men — no big deal. I brought them back to get high-​index lenses w/​anti-​reflective coating… $ 415 before insurance. Seems pretty expensive right? Insurance dropped it down around $ 300 but this is more than I’ve ever payed for glasses before, some friends and family said the same. This does NOT include the frames, mind you, those I paid for separate.
They gave me a welcome gift with a $ 5 coffee gift card and have stickers on the window asking for nice Unilocal reviews. The people are friendly but I’ve had better optometry experiences elsewhere. Nothing special about this place except they were at the top of the VSP website’s recommended list when I searched my zip code. Recommend going elsewhere.

This place is fantastic. The staff is fun to deal with and all are quite beautiful.
The lens they use (zeiss) Is the best you can find. I had Costco and some other competitors but these lens are the best. The clarity and durable of the frames is important.

I have been seeing Dr. McQuillan for about 20 years. He has examined my 3 children since they were 6 months old, the youngest is 16! We each go to him every year and always get GREAT service from Dr. McQuillan and his staff. Last February I started having issues with one of my eyes and he quickly diagnosed me and continued to research my condition. Even when I had to go to a specialist, he continued to take an interest in my progress. He always seems to have the latest equipment and if he doesn’t KNOW the answer, he WILL find it! It’s a shame that more Doctors don’t take as much interest in their patients as Dr. McQuillan!

The Dr. And his staff particularly Lizzie, have been awesome. I had a viral infection in both eyes and they have been caring for me during that time. They squeeze me in on short notice and have done everything they can for me during this stubborn problem.
They call me by name when I walk in the door. They have been so helpful Nd I highly recommend.

Went in for an exam for myself & my four year old yesterday, and had a great experience! Everyone in the office is so nice and they were very sweet and patient with my son, who is full of energy and can get antsy easily ;)
To top it off, Dr. McQuillan has the cutest mascot you’ve ever seen :)

Today I went in for a check up and was amazed at how nice the new location looked! Dr Mcquillan is so easy to talk to and I was so impressed with how much technology he puts into his work. The staff are so very nice and helpful since I was in a wheelchair chair and they went out of their way to make me comfortable. They have such a great selection of glasses and that is a great plus for their new location.

I can see! I always put off going to get a new prescription but now that I found this office I will gladly return. The office is beautiful and welcoming, the staff are super friendly, and Dr. McQuillan did a fantastic job! The selection of frames is extensive and diverse. I found exactly what I was looking for. I don’t think you could find a better optometrist or office staff. It’s a pleasure going there, starting from the friendly welcome when you arrive … to the very thorough, comfortable, and state-​of-​the-​art exams … the pleasant and interesting meeting and exam with Dr. McQuillan … and the very sweet and caring atmosphere in the eye glasses «department.» There’s a sign in Dr. M’s exam room which reads: «We Care About People — Not Just Their Eyes». I remember looking at that sign during my last visit (a few weeks ago) and smiling. This isn’t just their office motto, it’s their practice. I highly recommend Dr. McQuillan and his staff.
