History

Established in 2009.

Camarillo Flight Instruction and Aircraft Rental, an FAA Approved Part 61 flight school at Camarillo Airport was initially started with just one aircraft, one instructor, and a passion for flying. The goal was not to create just another flight school, but offer a better experience, flying aircraft that pilots actually want to fly. Today we have six aircraft, ranging from Cessna 172’s to a complete Piper line up, as well as two beautiful Diamond DA40’s. Whether your goal is to become a professional pilot, or just want to have fun and enjoy life from the sky, were here to help you.

I knew I wanted to be a pilot from a very young age, playing with Lego bricks I would assemble all sorts of flying machines and space ships. At the age of fourteen I approached my parents with the idea that I take flying lessons; knowing my passion for it they said yes. I went onto earning my pilots license while still in in high school, in fact I recall my parents driving me to-​and-​from flying lessons because I didn’t have a driver’s license yet. I attended UCSD earning two bachelors degrees while simultaneously adding an instrument, commercial, and multi-​engine privileges to my pilots license. After collage I eventually returned to live in Newbury Park with my wife and two children. Today with six aircraft, a fantastic group of flight instructors to work with, I’m humbled by our success and look forward to continuing to offer pilots a great place to learn and fly.

I’m doing it, I’m writing my first Unilocal review ever, and which restaurant do I choose to write it on? A flight school… The only reason I am writing this review is to tell other pilots and student pilots that their search for a flight school is over. This isn’t a first impression type review where I walked in, got charmed by the faces of the staff at a new flight school and ran home to write a stellar review, this is a post training, post checkride type review.
Everyone working here is so far superior to other flight schools that I have been to, whether it be for flight or ground training. Their CFI’s actually know what they are talking about, care about their students, and work their asses off to make sure you are 100% ready and confident. It doesn’t matter who your CFI is going to be, you’re in good hands. Off the top of my head, Tami at the front desk, Jerry, Sean, and Rob all helped make my checkride a breeze.
The airplanes are in great shape, fly well, and have all their equipment functioning. That statement might sound like a no-​brainer but most schools don’t care if equipment is inop as long as it can scrape by as legal.
Lastly the pricing, I looked for a Piper Arrow around my area to finish up my commercial training, and Camarillo Flight Instruction was by far the cheapest (at $ 165 per hour wet), maybe I shouldn’t say that because I would rather them keep the price the way it is. The closest second was $ 190 and I had to put several thousand dollars into an account with them, not to mention that airplane was covered and I mean covered with inop placards.
I’m coming back and you should to. Just don’t take my arrow, I love that thing.

I have been in three different flight schools, and Camarillo Flight Instruction has far surpassed my expectations concerning safety and professionalism. Their fleet of aircraft is extremely well maintained, and the facility they are located in is state of the art. My instructor Sean has been truly dedicated to my progression in the art of flight, and I wouldn’t trade him for any other teacher. If you are looking for a solid flight school, this place is the way to go.

It’s been a while since my first review of this small flight school in Camarillo… and between then and now it has seriously grown! I guess I’m in the wrong business! It now boasts 7 aircraft on the line for rental and instruction… though I still don’t have my license yet… that’s on me… I’m meeting students at the school that are getting their licenses left and right… I’m just not making it a priority for myself. SLACKER!
In the past it’s been tough to get someone on the phone at the school but it looks like they have hired more people including someone that is focused solely on running the day to day at the office. And now they also have very easy to use scheduling software that works great on iPhone. Luv that!
Anyway… as I said in my first review, these guys are legit… now just on bigger scale and I’m sure they will only get bigger and hopefully that means better like it has up till now.

I am a new pilot and received all of my training in a Diamond DA40 and a recent move to the area led me to Camarillo Flight Instruction to have access to their Diamond DA40’s. I’m very happy I did as the service is awesome and all of my experiences and interactions have been outstanding with them. I haven’t received any formal training with them yet, but after a rescue from the owner, Michael due to a mechanical issue, not only did he totally take care of me but I got some great education and free teaching from the experience. I will now be looking nowhere else to do my instrument rating training and will also be looking to get checked out to fly their many other great aircrafts.

I found Camarillo Flight Instruction online in my search for a school with a Diamond Star DA-​40. My first call was answered by the owner himself, and since then I have consistently received personal VIP attention, expert ongoing flight instruction, and a gorgeous aircraft that is impeccably maintained. If all that weren’t enough the pricing is also quite fair. I was a rusty private pilot with 10+ years of dust on my wings, but my CFI quickly got me back into shape and I am once again in the thralls of a rekindled romance with flying. I now plan on doing my IFR with the same instructor. Having flown at dozens of L.A. airports, Camarillo is my hands down favorite as a home base. If you are shopping L.A. flight schools, definitely check out Camarillo Flight Instruction. To me they have proven to be an awesome choice.

Thank you for the excellent flight training experience! Prior to beginning the process of being re-​certified to fly, I had not piloted an aircraft since shortly after receiving my Private Pilot’s License in 1977 and had no idea of what to expect. Working with Camarillo Flight Instruction, I was thoroughly impressed!
Initially, I contacted several flight training schools in November, 2012. I explained my unique circumstances of desiring to complete the FAA required Flight Review. One seemed more interested in keeping their not-​well maintained aircraft in the air and at another the instructor spoke more about his ambition to acquire an airline pilot job than discssing my goals. I took time to figure out finances and choose the right place to train. I chose Camarillo Flight Instruction because they inquired about my intentions and provided a plan to get me there. This gesture proved that Camarillo Flight Instruction did not simply see me as a potential customer, but as a fellow aviation colleague.
In addition, the instructors at Camarillo Flight Instruction are professional, dedicated and enthusiastic. Christian Straubinger was my instructor and he patiently worked with me to complete my training in an efficient manner. I flew my family recently in one of their late model, well-​maintained aircraft and I owe the trip’s success to the training. There passion and dedication helped me acquire confidence in my profenciency. My experience far exceeded any expectations. They run a fantastic program and I am grateful for their guidance and will continue toward my Instrument Training with them this week! I highly recommend Camarillo Flight Instruction to others pursuing flight training!

I live in Pasadena and drive all the way to Camarillo just because I like Camarillo Flight Instruction so much.
I’ve flown with tons of FBOs/​flight instructors, and Camarillo Flight Instruction has offered the best experience by far. While the fleet is limited, it offers the full range of equipment for you to train on.
Most of my hours with C.F.I. have been in their 2003 Piper Cherokee, which is a great airplane. It’s half analog instruments and «half glass» with 2x Garmin 430s and a GMX 200 that make navigating a piece of cake. Also they just acquired a Diamond DA40, which is a great plane to fly if you want to learn on the G1000 avionics.
I’ve flown over 150 hours with C.F.I. and don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They’re professional, patient, affordable and have a very flexible schedule.
