River Oaks Golf Course

This is one of my favorite county courses and the golfers who play it are usually pretty friendly. I’ve been playing it for about 15 years and was out as recently as this past weekend. I decided to take my friend’s advice and get out at the crack of dawn as a walk on single and get matched up at the course with golfers who like to play early. The GM told me he usually doesn’t give carts to people with no tee time so I was a little taken aback. He claimed he would make an exception for me this one time and chastised me a bit for not making a time. It wasn’t the best customer service at the time considering the course was empty and I had checked the course availability on the website before coming out. The tee sheet was nearly empty for that two hour window. I decided to let it go but felt like I should have said never mind, gotten in my car and driven 10 more minutes to Glenwoodie Golf Course. Course conditions 5 – 2015 wasn’t as good as usual. The greens had just been aerated and not well as many of the aerated holes were not filled completely with sand and the pellets were just dumped throughout the course, including a couple of the fairways. The tee boxes also were not cut low enough and much longer than the fairway grass. I won’t stop playing this course but the other Billy Casper options and customer service in the pro shops are better.

We played at 6.45 am Sunday it was our first time .We loved it! some damaged fairways but the greens were very nice .we have played a lot of courses around here and almost all but Olympia fields and Ravisloe had a lot of damage from ice last winter. The last three holes had dried out and man were they fast. I do not know if I would play anytime other than first tee time of the day. They started us on 10 and he said that they start on 10 on weekends and holidays. when we got to 10 they were lined up like mad. And we seen a whole bunch of walkers as we were finishing 8 and 9. We were a threesome and played in 3 hours and 10 minutes. A twosome started in front of us we only seen them on #9 finishing we never seen anyone even close behind us .We are going to try and get a first or second tee time again.
