If you are looking for a place to stay in Calistoga, this should be the pick. If amazingly cute bed and breakfast décor, extremely comfortable beds, spacious rooms, gracious hosts, and some of the best breakfast you will ever have sounds like a winner to you then the Craftsman Inn is the way to go. Plus where else has their own mini vineyard in front of their inn?!
We came here for the beginning of our honeymoon and had a nice congratulation welcome in our room, and this location made it so easy for us to be able to explore all that Calistoga has to offer. Walking distance to the main downtown and restaurants and there are even two wineries right up the street from this inn making it so easy to try what Calistoga and Napa are known for – wine. Speaking of wine, this inn also has wine for their guests, sherry and tasty cookies in their rooms, there is champagne at their breakfast which is already incredible enough on its own you *almost* don’t need champagne, but who can say no to that? And the breakfast you will get here is featured in their own cookbook and I can personally vouch for their wine poached pairs and their various breakfast casseroles and scones and everything is just so addicting and wonderful and tasty, that you will want to move into this inn since the food is just that good and because this place will remind you why vacation is so important for life :-)
Our room was also simply perfect to start our honeymoon as well. There was a large jet tub our own balcony and there is also other outdoor common patio space in case you pick up wine during your tastings and want somewhere relaxing to contemplate why you don’t vacation more often. The hosts here you can tell put their heart and soul into running this inn and they will go out of their way to make sure you not only love staying there but love Calistoga as well.

I stayed for two nights this weekend/​July 4^th.(July 2015).
This was an awful experience. Who are Jillian and Chris? We never saw any host or hostess. 3 days and no host? The rooms were empty mostly and Saturday night we were by ourselves in the whole house.
There was no one to check us in (welcome) or check us out. The wrong keys were left out for us in the back porch. I had to call some number for some woman to come and give me the right key. We paid $ 941 for two nights through Expedia and we were horrified by the place and service. Coffee was not available until 8:48 am and breakfast had nothing healthy or fresh. A cook showed up at 8. When the alarm started beeping that «there is smoke detected in kitchen», we were so scared– no owner/​manager/​no one came to fix it.
Very noisy a/​c, bad intersection, the wine and sherry are left out in the open, warm rooms. One housekeeper came to mke beds, one cook to make breakfast after 8, no tub in bathrom.
Lesson learned–
WILL NEVER TRUST the reviews ever/​photos are misleading. The experience was horrible. Complaining to Expedia.

Very nice interior property but the location is a problem right in front of very busy intersection that never seems to quite down. Unfortunately not worth the price even with a Living Social + we paid for an upgrade putting the stay above over $ 200/​nt.

Jillian is very nice, and the whole place is beautiful. I loved that there was sherry and cookies in our room, lots of maps and guides to the area, and a delicious breakfast made for us in the morning. A truly unique experience, thank you!

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights when we took our first trip up to Calistoga (although not our first to Napa). We had been to Southern Napa many times but often found it hard to make the drive further north and still have the stamina to drive home (or to our hotel) after a day of tasting and eating, so we were very excited to go further North and also be so close to the downtown area (literally across the street from the main drag).
The hotel itself was very cosy and the staff was friendly. We had some great breakfasts and slept well. We were nervous about the potential noise (when we read reviews online people had mentioned that because they are on St. Helena Highway), but did not notice any. In fact we felt things were pretty quiet and relaxing. We’d definitely stay here again.
A few things to know before you go:
— they are one of the few B&Bs I know that you can book through credit card points (which we did through my rewards marketplace website)
— check out their website to see who they have deals with. between the website and the tasting cards in the lobby/​sitting room area you can taste at many places free or 2 for 1. —Although, I should note this is something that many smaller places to stay in Napa benefit from.

Won’t be coming back again! Was made to feel that my tree nut allergy was a HUGE inconvenient in less than a minute of being greeted along with that there was no one there when we checked in and waited quite a while to be checked in.
The location is next to a noisy bbq place where there are way too many motorcyles!
It was horrible!

If you’re coming here, you’re coming here for the breakfast.
We had a nice stay, and while I wouldn’t say there was anything egregiously WRONG with our experience here, there are enough little things that I don’t think we would go back.
The innkeepers are very pleasant and did a great job making us feel comfortable and helping us plan activities for our stay. The food is excellent, but tends to be exclusively sweet. Two mornings out of three every offering on the table (all of them fantastic) was sweet.
The room itself was fairly mediocre. Whoever did photography for website knows their craft, because the rooms don’t quite live up when they’re not so perfectly framed. The tubs are nice, but the bed was pretty meh. My husband’s complaint was that our room was overwhelmingly humid. There were also a few weird things, like the windows were taped with white duck tape all around the edges, and there are some blocked off doors that have just been covered with curtains.
We booked the Spring Room because it offered a private deck. In this case, ‘private’ meant it was reserved for our use, but the outside stairs for the other three rooms come dead end right in front of it, so there’s really no privacy afforded. This means that everyone passes right past your windows, too.
The house is obviously older, and doesn’t have added soundproofing. From the Spring Room you can hear if anyone is talking or walking around in the kitchen. In fact I think part of the kitchen actually jigsaws INTO the spring room. You’ll also be able to hear when people in other rooms flush their toilets, turn on their showers, use their hot tub jets, or come in or out of the inn.
All that said, the location here is great, and the house and porch are really charming. Do keep in mind that there are no coffee makers in the room and the Inn doesn’t brew until after 7 am, so if you’re an early riser and a coffee person you’re going to need some sort of contingency plan.

This was one of the worse accommodations we ever had. The Spring room was so tiny. It smelled horrible like musty mildew like smell. The pillows smelled of sweat. It was disgusting and totally not acceptable for a $ 400 room. And to get in and out of the tub was quite dangerous. No non slip mat in tub. You practically risk your life getting in and out. The location of the room was right by the kitchen on the bottom floor. The patio was dark and gloomy not at all appealing for relaxation and you are right in the main traffic area. The walls are so thin so if you think you’re getting sleep here you’re not. You can hear your neighbors pee. Ellie was the only thing great about the place. That’s all that place has going for them. I wouldn’t even stay here again even if Gillian comped the weekend. The worse bed and breakfast. You are off of the main road. Dirty carpet too. Grounds unkept.

My husband and I stayed here for three days just recently (end of July). We thought we might be a bit late for check-​in time – which ends at 6pm so I called. The woman who answered said she might not be there then, but that she would leave the keys for us if she had to go. We did end up getting there on time, but the innkeeper was nowhere to be found. We let ourselves in and showed ourselves around. The next morning, she barely greeted us at breakfast (which was delicious). There was no half and half available for the coffee, though, only those little cups of non-​dairy creamer. Very strange…
The room was very nice – especially the bathroom. I could feel the springs in the mattress and the pillows were lumpy or flat. The location wasn’t at all what we expected. There is a gas station across the street and a relatively busy road.
I think that the innkeepers are in the wrong line of business. If you are running a B & B, it is all about hospitality and customer service. I felt that we were squatters rather than guests.

This is a cute B&B in a great location in Calistoga. Very convenient location to get to wineries an downtown.
We stayed in the downstairs room with the outdoor chaise and enjoyed a delicious breakfast cooked by Lorraine. There were many options from fruit and yogurt to eggs and sausage, complete with coffee and mimosas!
The room is a decent size but could use a bit of updating for the price you pay. The bathroom was adorable with a nice jacuzzi tub and l’occitane toiletries.
Although the owners were away, everything ran smoothly. You really feel like you are a guest in someone’s home in this cozy cottage! Thanks for a great birthday weekend!

Went back for round two at the Craftsman Inn a few months ago and was not let down! Just like the first time, Nick and Jillian really went out of their way to make our stay special. This time we stayed in the Diamond room, which was fantastic and had so many cool craftsman details. Very comfy furnishings and a real feeling of privacy. The bathroom was also really cute, I fell in love with those little twin pedestal sinks! Just like last time, breakfast was stellar. Mimosas, fresh granola and scones, great coffee, and some sort of delicious sweet and savory tart made with sausage and apricots (I think?) It was seriously amazing and totally different from your typical boring brunch items. We can’t wait to go back!

First stay in Calistoga (several in Napa valley) and this was a truly great base of operations. Super convenient to the calistoga downtown area. AWESOME BREAKFAST each morning and really great to meet the other guests and share stories and winery/​restaurant tips.
We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!

This place is located at one end of downtown. It’s right on the main highway which made it really easy to find. They have several rooms and we stayed in the Helena room which was upstairs. Very quaint, lovely room. We chose this one for the spa tub! Breakfast is terrific! Our host Gillian greeted us on the first day and made us a delicious breakfast the next day! Very friendly and accommodating!

Conveniently located outside of town put us in walking distance of dinner, which is wise after an afternoon of wine tasting.

I absolute love this place! The service, the food, the room was magnificent. The boyfriend and I stayed here a few months ago and have upcoming reservations for a wine club event we are attending in a few weeks. Needless to say, I am highly excited in staying here again.
The food: I’ve stayed in numerous bed and breakfast places in the past and the Craftsman Inn wins for best brunch. You could smell the home cooked food in the morning, making it almost impossible to avoid breakfast. There was frittata, warm cinnamon peaches, fresh pressed coffee, fresh fruits, bacon. Everything was fresh and local. Even the granola for the yogurt was homemade. The owner has a delicious cookbook in which you can purchase and attempt to replicate at home.
The room: The Diamond room is our room of choice. The room has a luxurious bathroom with «his and her» sinks, a jacuzzi tub, and a shower for two. It also has a private balcony. However, there were plenty of bees hoovering around during our last stay so we lasted for about 2 minutes before heading back inside. Bonus star goes to the beautiful finishing touches such as the high end soap products, comfortable cotton robes, the homemade cherry chocolate chip cookies and sherry placed nicely on our nightstand.
The service: Nick was amazing. He worked closely with my boyfriend to plan a sweet surprise for me by having beautiful flowers delivered to our room as well as a bottle of Mumm champagne and Lindt chocolate waiting for me when I entered. Thank you.
The location: Craftman is walking distance to the downtown area which is perfect. We were able to stroll around town and ordering a bottle with our dinner at a nearby restaurant without worrying about driving back tipsy.

Rooms were nice and breakfast was DELIOUS!!! If you’re just going to a B &B for those two reasons then you’ll love it.
What we missed was the hospitality, there really wasn’t any. You can tell that to this Inn Keeper this was just a «job». We’ve stayed in many B&B’s and the personal touch is why you choose a B&B.
It’s also located on a very busy hightway, which didn’t bother us while sleeping but, there really isn’t much to look at while enjoying the patio with a glass of wine that YOU BEST bring yourself cause there is NO ONE around in the afternnon to offer any type of afternoon amenity.

The breakfast deserves 4 stars, maybe 5, but the place itself only gets two from me. First, it’s really noisy. I guess we don’t usually stay near highways– and it is right on hwy 29, so you might want earplugs if you are a light sleeper. I can tell you they deliver the newspapers at 4am at the place across the street, and the rib joint next door also start to cook at that time– how do I know? I couldn’t sleep.
As a very nice touch the Inn puts sherry in the rooms, and it was very good, but a not so nice touch were the bugs in the bottom of the sherry decanter, which I did not notice until I’d had a glass. Ugh. Kind of gross. They were little black gnats– but still.
The bed was not comfortable. There was a large divot on one side, and the mattress was either old, or just really soft. I meant to look and see what kind it was, but I forgot– probably due to lack of sleep. I suppose other beds in the place might be better– I did not see them all.
The heating is a little weird– there is an air conditioner like unit that does both heating and cooling. It looks like a regular air conditioner, but it does both– there’s a button to switch to heat. Unfortunately it doesn’t do a great job. We were alternately too hot and too cold.
Also, and VERY important for the mobility impaired, the stairs inside the house are amazingly steep and narrow– there’s a rope on the wall as a rail, so you could pull yourself up, I guess, but it’s a steep climb. There are more gentle steps outside, but still, there are steps– so if you can’t get up steps, I don’t think you can stay here. I didn’t see a ramp. There is a downstairs bedroom, but I don’t know if you can get into it without any steps. Maybe there is a ramp hidden somewhere.
The breakfasts are fantastic. You couldn’t ask for a better breakfast, and the location is nice (except for the highway noise) as it’s a very easy walk to shopping and dining.
All told, despite the absolutely fantastic breakfast, I would not stay here again. I need the «bed» part of «bed and breakfast» to be as good as the breakfast part.
