Calistoga Spa Hot Springs

We did the mud bath (mud bath + mineral bath + steam room + wrap). The dimly lit «spa» room looked like something out of a snuff film — old, cracked concrete and old stainless steel, individual tubs covered in calcium deposits. Mineral water jacuzzi was the same.
The place was less than sanitary. I doubt they sterilize anything between clients, and every guest was walking around the spa with bare feet, no sandals.
Would not go again. 2 stars instead of 1 because all else aside, the mud bath was a pretty neat new experience. I would recommend avoiding this place, and getting a mud bath elsewhere.

The building is not «modern.» All I care about is that the pools and facilities are clean. The entire staff has always been friendly and accommodating. I expect massages to be more expensive here, because this is Calistoga. I have only been here for the spa and mineral pools, so I have no feedback on the hotel rooms.

I’m a frequent spa goer so I was surprised by the antiquated condition of this spa.
First I want to say that the hotel part was ok. It was newly renovated. It was clean and had what we needed. Nice bed. Lots of windows to open if you prefer natural air. The pools were very nice as well.
I didn’t book ahead for massage so I had to take what I got. I’ve never heard of a ½ hour massage but that’s all they had. Disappointed but I had «Q» and she was amazing. The spa was clean but the décor was 1982. It was bright and ugly and they didn’t have robes. They gave you a sheet! There was nothing that I would expect at a place that charges $ 100.00 for massage except «Q». There was no offer of a drink of any kind. No snacks or fruit. No soothing lounge to wait in and no guidance .They did have a jug of water with fruit in it in the changing area. I could go on but I think you have the idea. Maybe things will improve when they finish renovating. I won’t go back because I know there are wonderful places that are already updated. And please! Let you patrons know what there in for. It’s not fair to charge so much for a pitiful example of a spa. Also, it’s very noisy. The housekeeping staff were loud and inconsiderate of others maybe resting in their rooms.
