I cannot say enough about how poorly I was treated over a simple pickup order at Nori Caldwell. When I placed my order over the phone, I asked that the ingredients in the«Bugs Bunny» roll be fresh instead of fried as indicated on the menu. The man taking my order over the phone said that could be done. On my way to pickup the order, a woman from Nori called and said she did not understand my order — what ingredients did I want included, what did I want excluded, what did I want fried, and what did I want fresh inside the«Bugs Bunny» roll — she was pleasant enough and again said this would be no problem. When I arrived to pickup the order and finished paying, I was verbally accosted by the original man who took my order. Believe it or not, he ACTUALLYYELLED at me saying I had him very confused, that I am not good at reading menus and need to read the menu more carefully next time, and that I need to be more clear when I call to order. Despite the extremely shocking and disproportionate reaction, I apologized for the confusion, yet he continued to scold me and would not drop the issue. As I left with my order and told him to have a good night, he did not reply and rudely turned his back to me. To add insult to injury, the two rolls I had were both mediocre and the rice was white instead of brown as I asked for. The food was besides the point — I will never go there again to be spoken to the way I was, as a customer, person, and woman. Totally unacceptable.

As deliveries go, this was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Considering the $ 90 bill for a meal for four people, my family and I were hoping for a delicious meal. Unfortunately, the meal was anything but enjoyable. The sushi rolls were tiny and flavorless. I could barely decipher what fish was actually inside each roll. One was so stale tasting, we threw it in the garbage after one bite. The hibachi and teriyaki meals, both $ 18 each, looked like side dishes at most. There were so few vegetables, you could count them at a glance. I won’t even go into detail on the«miso soup,» which was basically glorified ocean water. When I called to express my disappointment, I was not met with any sense of urgency to solve the issues at hand. All in all, this was a terrible dining experience and I won’t eat here again.

This is the third straight time they have forgotten to put things in my order that I purchased. This is extremely annoying and theres no accountability for it.

Always fresh and delicious. This place never disappoints me. I love the spicy california roll and dragon roll. The lunch special is great and affordable. Best variety of sushi with excellent service. And for dessert I always order mochi. Love this place.

The best quality and price combination sushi in the area. The food is outstanding and it comes at a pricy much cheaper then the rest of the places on the area. When I first moved into the area I tried all of the sushi places, however after trying them all, I know exclusively go to nori!

A friend suggested we eat at Nori for a quick dinner and a glass of wine(it is byob). It was an early dinner and the rain kept people away as it was very quiet. Service was welcoming and the place had a family atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and we were nicely taken care of. We ordered edamame and sushi and sashimi for two. There was plenty of sashimi(about 15 pieces), a dozen Negiri pieces and three rolls. We also had a couple of salads and edamame. Price was less than $ 60…well worth it. Sashimi was nicely presented on a boat and was tasty. Salmon was the fattier cut which I like and tuna was medium level. The rolls were creative and had some cooked and tempura elements which gave both a rich taste and texture. Negiri was really nice with the traditional salmon etc but also included clam and a few variations of tuna. Presentation was nice and the boat was full. Will go back. By the way, the Lynch Bage 2002 was exquisite!

This is my and my boyfriend’s favorite place for sushi. It’s a good 20-minute drive for us, but we’ll happily make it each and every time. We both love the wide selection of rolls they have there, particularly ones with different fruit combinations, and I personally love the fact that they have numerous cooked rolls since I am not a fan of raw fish and traditional sushi. My favorite rolls are the Sunflower, the Dumbo, the Firecracker, and anything with mango, kiwi, avocado, and the crunchy peanut topping that they serve on some rolls. I’ve also tried their chicken teriyaki and their noodles, and both are yummy. We know there is a Montclair branch of this restaurant, but we prefer the Caldwell branch. The service is friendly and attentive, and the place is small and busy, but you never feel crowded or rushed. This is a great place for a small, romantic dinner or a fun night out with friends – we’ve done both here. And probably will again soon. :-)

I am not a fan of the Nori in Montclair, but the one in Caldwell is excellent in my book! Not only is the service good and the food great, but we always have fun with the waitress. She remembers what we want to eat from our previous visits. I LOVE the Teriyake and Hibachi platters, the Wasabi Shrimp is GREAT! We also love the rolls and we’re pretty fussy. I love the Donkey Kong rolls and my wife gets a special concoction which the cook makes for us every time without any discussion and it’s always perfect!

Rolls seemed very creative, but the ingredients didn’t seem particularly fresh, the pinapple on one roll was canned pineapple, the fried banana on another roll was not ripe enough and it wasn’t tempura fried like you’d expect… the shumai weren’t great either…

First visit tonight on recommendation from one of my daughters. Great miso soup and the creamy dressing on the salad was to die for. We ordered a combination of some sushi rolls, the box and tempura and a side of chicken fried rice. All were excellent! Pricing was about what I would expect and service was fast and friendly. we have been searching for a moderately priced sushi restaurant and i think we found one.

So the first thing I have to say is this is one of the worst sushi/sashimi places I’ve had. When you bit into a piece of fish and it exudes water that’s pretty bad. The fish is obviously not fresh and not properly prepared. The california roll isare not very good. It’s obvious the rice is not prepared correctly. The sushi rice is probably more on par what you would find in a supermarket where it’s been sitting there in the cold for a while. So if you want decent sushi this is not the place to go. The cooked food fares a bit better. It’s average — not bad. The tempura and pork katsu is ok. You get what you pay for unfortunately and I would never go back to this place again. I don’t expect the same quality as a place in NYC where a sushi/sashi combo would run you a minimum of $ 16, but come on… In terms of service, I didn’t have any issues. They’re not particularly friendly but I didn’t experience any issues either. I didn’t expect 5 star service here so no issues. There’s a Japanese place across the street that I plan on trying. Hopefully that turns out to be better.

This is my favorite restaurant by far. I have been coming here with my fam for years on a monthly basis. The small restaurant has an intimate ambiance. Like many sushi places, you can watch the guys making your sushi. Nori is very consistent. I can always go there and find just what I’m looking for. It’s like my comfort food. The servers are so sweet and the service is great. Some of my favorite dishes are the Tiger rolls, the Mango Shrimp rolls, and their chicken teriyaki is excellent. Of course, the miso soup and house salad are also excellent(the creamy house dressing is so good I could probably drink it with a straw). My only issues are the Spicy Tuna isn’t spicy enough for me, and the beef dishes can sometimes be tough. The take-out is just as good, but eating at the restaurant just adds a something special. The menu is a bit pricy, but I think it’s definitely worth it. I haven’t found a sushi place that does it quite as well as Nori’s. By the way, I have been to the Montclair location, and I prefer the Caldwell location. I would definitely recommend Nori to anyone who is looking for great sushi.

This place deserves 0 stars! Poor customer service, you wont even get greeted by the owner!!! The owner decided to make my food without washing his hands and while he was talking on the phone. I asked him to wash his hands, he looked at me angrily. Then I said, no problem… just give me my money back so I can get some sushi from a couple of dozen other places around town. At first he tried to give me a fight, saying that he made the food already so I cant get a refund. Then I argued and asked him to show me the sign that says no refund… He snatched my bank card to give me a refund… then he said«Dont you ever come back here again!» Whoaa! no problem… I was thinking the same thing… I am never stepping foot in there again. NEVER!!!

I never walked out of a restaurant feeling angry like this. Yes, anger is the word. There are just too many things that was wrong with Nori. I’m not sure if the positive reviewers are confusing this restaurant with another Japanese restaurant with the same name in Monclair. The food was not just subpar, it was plain bad. And as a disclaimer, I don’t consider myself picky in terms of food. My $ 13.95 nabeyaki udon was worse than my $ 3 frozen udon I got from mitsuwa… in fact it ddn’t even compare, frozen udon wins 100 times over. Seemed like they just threw udon and some random veggie in water and boil it. That about sums it up. Ok, what about their sushi, you ask. I’m sorry but it’s just not good. It’s what I would call rubber-soysauce-wasabi. Fish is not fresh and have no taste. The bad didn’t end there. The daikon radish that came with the sushi was spoiled. This tells me that the daikon was not freshly prepared, but probably stored in the fridge for several days. And as you all know, daikon spoils fast, and that’s what they served to us. Really Nori, have you tasted what you’re serving to your customers? They most definitely did not. ITSNOTRIGHTTOSERVEPEOPLEJUNK. Not for any price, and Nori is not cheap. After all that, service was unprofessional, interior smelled moldy. I don’t know how they have customers at all. Again, YOUDON’T OPEN A RESTAURANTANDSERVEPPLJUNKANDEXPECTTOMAKEMONEY. Nori, you destroyed a perfectly sunny and happy sunday afternoon for me. I won’t eat here ever again, not even if they pay me to eat here. Again, Unilocalers, please verify the address when you review so this Nori at 406 Bloomfield avenue won’t destroy more restaurant-goer’s dining experiences.

This place is the greatest sushi/Japanese restaurant in all of New Jersey. Hands DOWN! I can say that confidently — I’ve been going here for years, at some point on a weekly basis, and I’ve never had a complaint. They are flawless, and the food is just outstanding. The teriyaki and rolling chicken are both to rave for — Great portions — and even better flavor. The service is quick, and the meat tends to be cooked to just the right level where it’s juicy and just ‘perfect’. The sushi is the best. Go for the lunch special if you can. Pretty much any roll you order is a winner — The sushi chefs here really know their stuff, the fish is very fresh, and each roll appears to have a lot of care put into them. You can tell that a lot of thought is put into the flavor, which is incredibly important when it comes to sushi, since the wrong combinations alone can be troublesome. It’s never a worry at Nori’s in Caldwell. The chefs are ace. The staff is friendly, fast, and easy to talk to. Just a very casual, fun environment. It’s hard not to recommend this restaurant when it does no wrong. I have yet to bring a friend here that did not love the place. It really is like a hidden gem — You would never know it until you come here, but the food is so good that it is other worldly! Even their sides and sauces are unlike anywhere else. It’s tough putting it into words since it’s so rare that a restaurant can put attention into every small detail and make everything excellent. Also — Remember to try the wasabi cheesecake. They do it best here!

The food was fine. The salmon roll was good enough. It was OK. Nothing we had made me think — WOW when I’m hungry and in Montclair next time, I need to go to Nori. It’s a fine neighborhoody spot. They hang photos of employees standing with any«noted public figure»(some quite obscure) on the wall as you walk in. You know the sort of place.
