Three of us went in and split an enchilada plate and a chimichanga that was made vegetarian on our request. It was just the right amount of food. Our waitress was kind and attentive and had a great knowledge of what went into the food, the food was delicious, full of flavor and I will defiantly be back!

I’m usually only in Caldwell during the holidays for the last few years. But every time I’m here I ask, «How about Janitzio’s?» So we went again today. Maria Chavez doesn’t disappoint as owner, greeting us with a smile and an updated menu. I had the Pollo Poblano and my wife had tacos and tamales. Yum. The tortillas are fresh and the flavors are fresh. It’s authentic, simple. Nothing fancy but a family operation. Check it out.

This is my kind of «joint»… Very interesting vibe and friendly service. It’s located in Old Caldwell and has a seedy, almost sketchy feel to it. Good vibe… The chips seem to be homemade and perhaps a bit stale? Hard to tell but not super crispy. The salsa a good accompaniment to the chips, not chunky and just a slight bite. I ordered the special which happens to be Bistec Ranchero prices at $ 11. There is only one gal working the front so it took a bit for the food to arrive at the table. So, if you might want to try this place if you aren’t in a big hurry. The food itself was very good. This may be my new favorite Mexican place in Caldwell.

Drove to Caldwell just to visit this restaurant. This webpage said they were open. Arrived at 3:30 pm Friday ½/15 to find a closed sign in the window. I am not sure if they are still open for business as the building looked dilapidated.

Absolutely amazing. Definitely authentic Mexican. The Arroz Con Pollo was perfection.

I was in Caldwell on business for a few days and asked the staff of the place where I was working to recommend a good restaurant. I was intrigued when they mentioned Janitzio, since I thought I remember seeing a very picturesque island by that name when I traveled to Michoacan a number of years ago. Went to the restaurant my first evening here and had an excellent dinner(chile colorado) with great service. The family is indeed from Michoacan, and the owner(Maria) was cooking. I had an extended conversation with one of the family about their journeys to California from Mexico and then to Caldwell. Had to bring the staff of the department I was working in to the restaurant the next day, and it was once again excellent! I’d go there again in a heartbeat, if I didn’t live so far from Idaho!

I have eaten here at least 20 times and have always had a great meal. Try to stop by whenever I am in Caldwell. My favorite dish is the chicken mole.

Had the taco & tamale lunch combo. Only 6 bucks and very delicious. I remember when this place was a trading card store when I was growing up, something like Al’s, I don’t remember. Anyways, good food and cheap, recommended if your in the area.

I would have given a 5 star IF they served a well made margarita, but they served none at all! Food was excellent, and the Salsa was very tasty. We asked for extra spicy and whoa did we ever get it! We were looking for a place to eat near the river so we could go enjoy the festivities nearby, and glad my wife found this on Unilocal.Seriously, the food is amazingly great tasting. Do NOT let the small moderate place scare you away.

Wandered in this local hole in the wall restaurant based on a few Unilocal reviews. We were greeted with a big smile and chose a booth to look over the extensive menu… so far, so good. The décor is a bit lackluster but the bright blanket stripe under glass was nice and cheery. This isn’t a place where you will find black beans(I asked if that was an option vs refried and it is not)’ but they did have several veggie options. I had a chicken tamale with a side of guacamole and pico(pretty spicy pico:)and my coworker had a beef enchilada rancheros. Although it wasn’t a place I would go out of my way for, we both thought it was tasty and fresh(and better than many fast food options in town). FYI since it was questioned in a previous review, I thought it was very clean in the restaurant and the restroom… which made me feel better.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in the valley(I’ve lived in Idaho for 31 years and tried many recommended by others). This is the real deal. Try the seafood chimi, it’s my favorite here. My husband loves their Carne Asada. Maria’s fish tacos are wonderful too. Honestly, I haven’t had anything I didn’t like here. They are a small family operation, mom cooks and her daughter waits tables, well worth the wait, if there is one. Authentic Mexican food here.

We have eaten at Janitzio’s many times over the years once we discovered them by accident. One of the best Mexican restaraunts we’ve ever eaten at. They have the best Mole I’ve ever had… their Bistek Ranchero Especial is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, and I eat it time and time again! The servers and cooks are all family and are always pleasant and friendly. Service is fast, the place is immaculately clean. I have only one complaint and that is the Carnitas we had recently left something to be desired. But everything else is awesome.

Mmm the most authentic Mexican place I’ve been to in Idaho so far.(Which isn’t saying much because I’ve been here for less than 2 months. Or is it… as I did my undergrad at San Diego…) This place has that hole in the wall atmosphere where you are a little apprehensive about the cleanliness, highly skeptical about using the restroom, but still can’t wait to taste the food. Prices are very reasonable and start at around $ 6 for lunch for a combo platter. You get beans and rice with a tostada, burrito, tacos, enchilada, or a few more options. The amount of meat was more than I expected inside the taco /enchilada, and the rice /beans were flavorful too. I tried the combo plate with a beef enchilada and chicken taco and guacamole. I got chicken everything, and no guacamole. Service isn’t fantastic, but it’s 3 people running a small place. The people there were apologetic about it, and didn’t try to charge me for it at the end. Many choices of Jarritos(including pineapple), and I think I saw a Hibiscus flower drink. Check out the Mexican bakery a few doors down– it’s great and you get 3 items for $ 1! I’d review it but don’t have the address.
