Being from out of state(California, important later) and moving to Caldwell, I figured that this grocery store would be great. The store is located about a 5 minute walk from my residence so it would be a good opportunity to get some sun when I didn’t want to study. I arrive and see that they are decently stocked. They’ve got most of what I would normally get as well as the usual array of breads, pastas, fruits, veggies, etc. As I’m perusing the aisles, I’m taken aback by some of the ridiculous prices for some of the more everyday items(Chobani yogurt, oatmeal, any/all fruit). I brush it off as I’ve foreseen this happening and adequately budgeted my food money beforehand. I eventually make my way to where they keep the wine and grab a Napa wine. I head over to the check out counter where the cashier was pretty chill dude. He rings me up and gets to the wine bottle. As per protocol he asks for my ID and I hand it over. He looks confused for a moment so I point to the line where it says I have been 21 since XYZ date. Still confused he calls over the supervisor. This is where I lose my confidence in this grocery store. The supervisor tells me **“We don’t sell wine to people without a NJ driver’s license”**. My mind is a blank as I’m completely baffled with what’s going on. I ask for a reason and he shrugs me off and tells me that it’s just a rule. I look to the cashier and he shrugs as well. Thanks for the nice welcome to NJ, Jack’s Supermarket. I’ll take my California self and ID to another store that’s more tolerant of people from different states. Absolutely ridiculous. **EDIT**: For those of you who don’t know, there’s a much much cheaper ShopRite with the same brands and more and cheaper prices down the street at the intersection of Bloomfield and Passaic.

I was a local shopper for years so much so that when my daughter was looking for a job I suggested Jacks close to home seemed like a great place to work I was wrong the management treats the young kids that work there so terribly my daughter was called names by(Eileen Table) the manager on several occasions as well as threatened by her to be to work on time or «every bone in her body will be broken» all I wanted was a safe place for my daughter to learn the value of making her own money in return she was abused! I did try and contact Jack a few times to discuss how my daughter was treated he never responded.

This market is close to my work so I can attempt to zip in and out in 30 min during my lunch hour. Coming here makes me feel like I’m in an episode of Gilmore Girls. It has a small town feel and everyone there is incredibly nice and helpful; all the time. It’s nice to find a place that is protected from the hustle and bustle grind that we’re so used to experiencing in this area. The prices aren’t always the best; they don’t always have every product; their options may be limited, but they do yield good quality items like boars head deli items and di Cecco pasta. I noticed they no longer carried my favorite pretzels and the cashier said she would let the manager and the vendor know. You can beat that kind of service.

I’ve been coming here for years and it’s nothing to write home about. There’s a decent selection of mold if you find that sort of thing appetizing, but to be fair they’ll make a good sandwhich. The staff is nice and helpful with the exception of the manager. The manager with the«sunny side up» type of head kept following my friends and I around and I can’t be positive but I’m pretty sure he just farted.

Small neighborhood grocery store in the heart of Caldwell. There is metered parking on the street or a small lot in the back of the store. Pros: I find that their fruit and meat selection here is better than Shoprite’s or Stop and Shop’s. Sure, they may not have as many different varieties as the other stores, but I think the fruit/meat that they sell here generally tastes better. Friendly staff, mostly high school kids working in the pm. Cons: They are probably the priciest out of all the supermarkets in the town. Every once in awhile you’ll get a good deal here, though. Can’t pay for a purchase that is under $ 5 with a credit card. I think they’ll accept debit for something that is under $ 5, but don’t quote me on that. I’d bring cash if you’re just going in for one small item. Besides, ever go to a grocery store that keeps the tampons in the same aisle as the cat food? Well, you have now. I hope Jack’s appreciates my patronage as much as I appreciate their twisted sense of humor.

Jack’s is like an old-fashioned neighborhood grocery store. Not the greatest selection, but good enough. Not the lowest prices, but sale items are always a good value. Great meat dept. — far better than Shop Rite. And they do an admirable job of handling frozen and perishable items so that they don’t end up with that«fishy» taste like you get at Shop Rite and Kings. I do most of my shopping here and have gotten on a first-name basis with just about everyone. Jack is a generous guy, too. This place deserves our patronage.
