My whole family has been going for the last 15 – 20 years for a reason. I won’t feel comfortable at another dentists office after I move away.

I went to Dr. Nicholas after receiving a flyer in the mail that teeth cleanings were free with insurance. I went and had a decent teeth cleaning experience. The dental hygienist is really friendly and helpful. The dentist came in and talked to me about some cavities and other work that I needed done. Overall, the dental experience was fine. Then came payment. I was told that it would be thousands of dollars to fill a couple of cavities and some other semi-major work. That seemed ridiculous to me, considering I had insurance. I found out that they had already charged hundreds of dollars to my insurance for the cleaning, exam and x-rays(which I didn’t request – remember I came in for a teeth cleaning) and that had eaten into my yearly insurance allowance. Also, this doctor wasn’t considered«in network» for my insurance, even though he accepted my insurance. The front desk people knew that and never mentioned that that’s why the out of pocket fees would have been so much to get the work done. I did some research on my own and found another dentist who was in network and therefore would charge a lot less out of pocket for me. Overall, I didn’t appreciate not having anyone discuss what they were doing beyond the simple cleaning and how much that would cost my insurance. I wouldn’t have consented to hundreds of dollars in x-rays from an out of network dentist if I had known how it would affect my insurance allowance down the line. I like when doctors are open about treatment and open about payment, which my current dentist and his staff are. Also, there is no in-house financing or payment options. I was told that if I were to get the work done there, the entire balance would be due at the time of treatment. They weren’t even willing to split it into two or three payments, which many other dentists do. I also read another Unilocal review of a woman(there’s another listing for Dr. Nicholas on here) who went to Dr. Nicholas WITHOUT insurance and they worked with her to split her payments, but I guess they’re biased if you DO have insurance. He’s an OK dentist(at least from the cleaning), but I would advise anyone going to stay on top of what they are doing and ask how much they will charge your insurance or you for those services.
