History
Established in 1952.
The Optical Center is a locally owned independent optical store. We serve our customers by providing quality eyewear and related products and services in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
The Optical Center has been a part of the Burlington Community since it was established by Herbert and June Davis in 1952. It has been at its present location since the early 1970s.
The building, which houses The Optical Center, holds the honored distinction of being one of the oldest intact structures on Church Street. An O.B. Mclintock street clock, an iconic Church Street landmark, still hangs in front of the building as it has for over seventy-five years. The interior of the store maintains its quaint charm with original detailed woodwork, cabinetry, and beautiful tin ceilings. The perfect backdrop for an optical store!
Meet the Business Owner
Gary K.
Business Owner
Gary King is the current owner of The Optical Center. He began his career at The Optical Center shortly after graduating from The Opticians School of Framingham in 1975. He has been the owner, with his wife Cindy, since 1989. With over 35 years of experience in eyewear dispensing and optical lab work, Gary still finds opticianry both challenging and rewarding. He always welcomes new customers, and has many loyal customers who have been coming to The Optical Center for thirty years or more. He holds a Vermont opticians license and is American Board of Opticianry Certified. He has also served on The Vermont Board of Opticians. Gary resides in Colchester and in his off time enjoys all forms of fishing, and spending time with his family; wife Cindy, two children, and four grandchildren. He also enjoys collecting antique eyewear and has amassed a collection numbering in the hundreds, many of which can be seen on display at the store.
