Driving from Washington DC to Atlanta for my niece’s 4th birthday, with my dog in the front seat can be very taxing… I mean it is nearly a 12 hour drive(with traffic). Somewhere around the midway point I found myself in North Carolina, past the major cities & getting tired quick. Finding a place that allows dogs without a reservation & on a Thursday night shouldn’t be that hard right? Most of these small towns had places geared towards movers & shippers, & fellow motorists as myself. Well, turns out a lot of them don’t accept them. Those that do per my smart phone had a crazy high pet fee. like $ 75 for one stinkin night; nay, 5 – 6 hours of sleep. By the third place, I asked for a suggestion & the kind gentleman at the Quality Inn said exit 132. nothing more. Not a name of a place or general direction, just the exit number. So I hopped on the road, took the exit & pulled into the 2nd place on the right side… The Royal Inn & Suites. Why not the first place? The sign said WiFi. Yes, I put internet priorities over my dog… I considering a support group. The owner was nice. I informed him I had a dog & as long as it was well behaved it wouldn’t be a problem. So I got parking, a non-smoking room that had cable & wifi(which I forgot to get the passcode for from the front desk, but too tired to call once I got to the room so dealt with the normal battery sucking smart phone ways)… & allowed my medium sized dog to crash with me for $ 50.20. That’s a DEAL!!! In the room, there was a microwave, empty mini-fridge, king size bed, & ample room… oh of course a bathroom. It was clean & definitely was not smoked in. Don’t you hate it when you ask for a smoking room & can smell that someone smoked in it… it’s the worst… seriously! The place was old school. no key card here, just a normal key that I could leave in the room once I left in the morning. I love not dealing with front desk checkout & just getting on the road. I think the only thing holding back this place from a whopping 5th star is if they offered breakfast or a spa or something crazy that motels don’t offer. If I could they would get 4.5 stars, but alas it remains 4 stars. Summary: If you want bang for your buck & have a pet, stay here. Plus, the pillows are decent… not flat & crappy like some places.
