San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront

This is a full service hotel. The restaurant is top notch, the bar is great, rooms are nice and clean, the beds are so very comfortable, and if you are lucky enough. To get a view of the bay, you will truly enjoy your stay!

I was upgraded to a «room with a view» that featured a putrid scene with a concrete slab obstructing a horizon of murky, toxic water. I could look out of the window and see other people in their rooms, on their beds, which made me feel like I, myself, was vulnerable and could not leave open the curtains even slightly. I have no idea why tempered glass isn’t a minimum standard.
I did, however, like the bed, and the stylish room was clean. The downside of the design was that there was no tub in which I could soak my aching feet after the drive from LA had destroyed much of my will to live; the prospect of resting my angry dogs in water had sustained my momentum. Being confronted by a utilitarian tub was a major let-​down.
The open floor plan of the bar area was uninviting (like I want colleagues all in my face while I’m working a Long Island Ice Tea – no thanks), and the front of the building was rink-​dink. I thought it was just my own groanings of a spoiled Starwood platinum member until a colleague referred to the hotel as a «dive» the next morning. While some faculty stayed and paid out of pocket for an additional night, I switched to the safety of a Starwood hotel, where I knew that certain expectations were a standard, not subjects for post-​stay survey complaints.
Unfortunately, every time I stay at a Marriott property, I feel less likely to stay at a Marriott again. Although the staff was helpful and accommodating, this hotel was not – and would never be – my choice. As I drove by the Westin down the road from this Marriott, I welled with envy for the people who got to stay at the Westin’s sleek, full-​service hotel, fit for a president, while I had been relegated to the back-​swamp of the dingy Marriott.

What a wonderful property. I DJ’ed at different functions at this waterfront hotel. Every time when i am there, the staff is super warm welcoming, genuine and professional. Really enjoy being here. Has a big upscale bar/​restaurant/​lobby area. Very elegant. Highly recommend San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront!

This property can’t be beat for proximity to the airport and for being a full service hotel. Sadly, my time here was quite limited and I did not have any opportunity to properly utilize any of the property features.
Arriving at 12:30 AM, I found the shuttle bus area and didn’t wait more than 10 minutes for it to arrive. A short ride to the hotel and I was checked in, given directions to my room and details on the restaurant. The room was clean and at this late hour, it was quiet. Too dark to see anything out the window, I dropped my bag and crawled into bed.
Blink.
7 hours later I awoke. The room was still quiet and I had a chance to see that it was actually a really nice one. King size bed, sitting area, fab view of the airport runways and the bay. But it was time to go.
As hotels go for sleeping and comfort, this was great. Nice and close to the airport. I’m just bummed that my flight got in so late that I didn’t have a chance to experience the rest of the property. Oh, and lots and lots of Marriott points used for the night.

We have stayed here about three times now and have loved it each time! The first two stays were as a place to lay our heads before our early flights and the most recent stay was purely for pleasure.
This hotel is awesome! The lobby is sprawling, comfortable, and has enormous windows with views of the SFO runway and the Bay which is only about 20 fdet from the Hotel. The lobby is probably the most impressive feature of the hotel.
Another excellent feature of the hotel lobby is the «M» club which has a variety of snacks and drinks for free and a private bar ($ bar). Access is not necessarily guaranteed, but the staff has given us access on each of our stays because of various snafús. This brings me to my next point.
The service at the hotel is generally five star service. Just about every employee with the exception of one bad experience wants to help and is happy to rectify any problems that come up.
Last, but certainly not least, the shuttle system to the airport is GREAT. They run every 15 minutes or so starting at the crack of dawn. I believe any shuttles between midnight and three-​thirty need to be requested, but don’t quote me.
I can’t give 5 stars because the gym facilities are pretty unnaceptable, but other than that…
Great hotel! I’ve stayed in a few airport hotels and this one is hands down the best by SFO.

A good airport hotel if you have a layover at SFO. The rooms have been nicely renovated since I last stayed here and now have a much more modern feel. Glass showers and cool fixtures instead of the old tub and curtain setup.
Room service was also surprisingly good. I loved the Grilled Fish Tacos and the UnBurger.

If u want to stay close to the airport, stay at the marriott. It’s a hop skip and a jump away. The airport’s runway is actually right behind the hotel and you can watch the planes take off and land. There’s a pretty lake between the hotel and runway, so it actually looks like the planes are landing on water, which looks kinda cool. There is a Starbucks and a restaurant located inside the hotel with airport shuttle running every 10 minutes. There’s a pretty decent fitness center inside and has a walking path that you can walk along the water and stop at a nearby restaurant or bar. The rooms are pretty standard, double beds, TV and an ice bucket.

A pleasant surprise next to SFO.
Stayed here last night on United when my fight had mechanical issues. I must say I had a pleasant stay. From the outside, you wouldn’t know it but this Marriott has been remodeled and modernized.
The room and bed was very comfortable. I had what appear to be a 47in thin LCD TV.
In terms of price, United gets a discount at about $ 140/​night. From what i can see, it appears that the regular price is around $ 169 /​night. It’s very fair considering the proximity to the airport and the modern look. I’d stay there in a pinch :)

This is my second SFO hotel… this one is a four stars for location, parking and view and access. But what makes it a solid 4 is the service. Lots of people to greet and help make your stay comfortable.

Enter through the main lobby into a courtyard area with a bar, lots of sitting nooks and spaces to mill around. The service greets you and offers you a taste from the in-​house Starbucks. At the concierge desk there is candy, who doesn’t want candy?! and seasonal decorations.
– the absence of 5^th star has to do with the slightly funky lay out of the rest of the hotel. Take an escalator up to the meeting rooms, then walk down another set of stairs to get to the junior ballroom. hmm… Otherwise you have to walk outside and around to get to the junior ballroom. (the ceiling is a bit low in the ballroom too, that’s a bummer) — this work around is to make space for a way overpriced restaurant. Bad choice in my opinion but I guess business people don’t care how much they spend on food? just strange because there are so many great quality restaurants in the area where you can get great food for that cost.
However the food in the lobby/​bar is pricey but very tasty. Had a cocktail and it was done quite well. They also brought in a Hawaiian musician for a luau night. He was great.
The rooms were clean and well appointed. AC and heat working well. I was very comfortable and slept great. No complaints on that end.

I wish I had more time to spend at this hotel. Certainly superb service and quite a vibrant lobby area. There’s a courtesy shuttle bus which takes you to and from the airport terminals. The driver taking me to the hotel was excellent, although the driver taking me back in the morning missed his exit, but was still nice about it.
The lobby area is expansive with large open area bar. When I arrived around 10 pm, you would think you were walking into a holiday party based on the crowd noise and business attire.
They have one of the nicest concierge lounges I’d seen at a Marriott located on the first floor near the lobby bar area called the M Lounge. They have special deals which allow non elites to pay extra for access. It’s open 24 hours to stop by for water or coffee. In the evening they have drinks and snacks. In the morning, they have a buffet breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, pastries and fruits.
My room was very comfortable. Large flat screen television, high speed internet access and a walk in shower.

I’ve stayed here twice in the past month and I have to say the best word to describe this place would be «inconsistent».
Yes, they have a great view of the bay that can be yours for an extra ten dollars a night, and its proximity to the airport makes for an easy in and out.
The hotel boasts that it recently underwent a renovation with all new guest rooms, however, I’m not quite sure they finished yet. Some of the floors have the new décor in the hallway, others still have the Marriott 1980s look with red carpet and brass fixtures. One floor I stayed on was very comfortable, while the other felt like a wind tunnel with the air conditioning on full blast. Even the signage on the outside of the building is the old Marriott logo.
The two guest rooms I stayed in were equally as inconsistent. One had privacy shades in the window, the other didn’t. One had a mini refrigerator, the other didn’t. One had the next generation Marriott shower, the other had an old school tub. One had USB ports in the night stand, the other didn’t.
Bottom line on the rooms, if you get a room that isn’t quite right, go downstairs and ask for a new one. They have plenty as this property is massive, and hopefully the second room will have all the bells and whistles they are supposed to come with a Marriott room.
I will say though, where the upper floors are a hodge podge, the ground floor facilities are rock solid. Great pool and hot tub, sauna and fitness center hit the spot, inviting lobby, and a gorgeous bar and lounge.

Check in process was very quick and pleasant. Lobby bar area had a vibe. That’s unusual for a marriott. I guess being near an airport would lend itself in a city like San Fran to have a little more energy. Nice to see regardless.
Lounge on first floor for marriott elite folks. One of the nicest I have seen. Tons of televisions. They had a huge candy bar. I didn’t take but if you have kids this might be a real draw for you. Lounge nicely stocked and open 24 hrs. I arrived at 9 pm so I’m not sure what the morning offerings are like. My guess is quite generous.
Rooms are really nice and must have been redone recently. Very tasteful. Bathrooms especially nice. Have a nice view of planes landing but can’t hear it which is both rare and fantastic.

Comfortable. Courteous staff. Good location. Excellent, excellent breakfast buffet.

The San Francisco Marriott. What more of a place did you want to stay at. In-​store coffee shop, bar, and restaurant.
We were given a room facing the water, or the landing way. Rooms are large, beds are soft, and clean. Showers and bathroom her incredibly nice. Everything worked for us.
Room service is perfect as always. Drinks at the bar expensive but we do expect. Steaks at the restaurant always good nothing plain about. Staff is friendly and accommodating. The pool area is clean somewhat slippery of course when the weather but what do you expect. Towels are large fluffy and clean. Overall a great place to stay.

How did I not realize this was here? I’m from the Bay Area (now a temporary Chicagoan) and travel back to Northern California frequently for work; usually, I stay in Palo Alto or Menlo Park. But due to an event and my tendency to jump a plane without making hotel reservations in advance, I ended up in Burlingame — and this particular property — a few weeks back, and I’m SO glad I did.
First: It’s literally four minutes from SFO. And that’s only because you kind of HAVE to get in the car. You can see the runway from the hotel (hence, the «waterfront» piece) but it’s not so close that you’re hearing airplanes 24 – 7. Noise abatement? I don’t know. But I had a room on the water (check pics for the gorgeous view), and I slept fine.
What else? They have a Starbucks. The wifi is strong. They have (free!) bike rentals to take out on the trail immediately behind the hotel — literally the only thing between the hotel property and the bay. (PS, see the valet if you want to reserve a bike for the next morning’s ride.) Also — they have some benches and hightop tables, if you want to grab your Sbux and a croissant and head out to gaze at the bay over breakfast. (May or may not have done this every single morning.)
They have room service, and great customer service, and easy DIY parking in addition to valet.
The room itself had obviously been recently renovated, and I was a fan. Clean, simple, stylish.
I normally prefer more luxe hotels… but I’m a Marriott Elite and this property satisfies me in every way when I’m traveling on business. I was so happy with it, I’d likely stay here on a personal trip as well, being a perfect midway point between the city and RWC/​PA/​MP and the rest of the Peninsula.
I’ve found my new go-​to in the Bay Area. WIN.

Great hotel. You can tell that the rooms were recently renovated. The décor is very modern and functional. The showers are so much better than the typical tub and shower combo. Very clean thoughout.
The lobby is an awesome place for a drink or just to watch the planes at SFO.
We used über to get into the city and it cost about $ 30.
Overall an excellent hotel.

I have stayed here more than 50 nights in the past 18 months and finally got around to writing a review. This is one of the best Marriott hotels in the U.S. The hotel is right along the bay and rooms with bay view can watch planes landing and taking off at SFO. This is really fun and relaxing. I’ve found myself spending lots of evenings just sitting in my room or in the lounge watching the airplanes. When you check in, I highly recommend asking for a bayview room.
The hotel recently underwent a complete room renovation. Every aspect of the room has been renovated. New bathrooms with glass sliding door showers, new carpet, new beds and bedding, and new desks, TV, and couches. Everything is new in the 8 rooms I have stayed in that were renovated. During one stay, my room did not have a desk for the first 2 nights but it appeared on the 3^rd day. I thought the rooms were pretty nice before but now they’re exceptional.
They also have the first ever M Lounge. This 24 hour lounge is great for grabbing a drink (water, soda, juice, milk) when you arrive late at night. They have a very good rotating menu of hot and cold items for breakfast and pre-​dinner appetizers. And probably the best thing about the M Lounge is the smörgåsbord of snack items that appear in the early evening. Everything from nut mix to Oreo cookie and gummy worms.
The only issues with the hotel, which is common with all full service hotels, is the upcharges for parking ($ 25/​day) and wifi (unless you are a Gold or Platinum rewards member). Besides that, I think the staff does a great job. They constantly change the décor (e.g. fall decorations are replaced with Christmas decorations are replace with Valentine’s decorations, etc…). They also have apples, oranges, and candies and mints in the lobby area for all guests. For those who like to bike, the hotel provides free bike rentals for guests.

I liked this hotel, even though it had none of the three things that I think every hotel must have (free wifi, free parking, and free breakfast).
You do get free wifi if you are a rewards member. (I literally opened a rewards account the second I found out about this so technically the wifi is free for everyone)
Parking is $ 25 a day but the room key never works and I always needed someone to raise the bar for me so my guest key was never swiped and parking charges never got posted to my bill until I voluntarily told the lady upon checkout.
… So I guess wifi and parking can be free if you want them to be.
Breakfast buffet is $ 25 and has a wide selection but there are many great pancake houses around that do not have bugs crawling over some cheap brie.
Rooms are huge and modern. No free water but gym is free and has free water. I think this hotel is a much better option than any hotels in the city if you are driving.

There are few places that totally cater to the client now a days. This hotel has catered to us like no other I have ever stayed at. We are club members so we have access to the club lounge which is awesome especially with kids. They have snacks 24÷7− milks, chocolate milks, sodas, even yogurts. And I LOVE the glass bottles for water. So environmentally friendly!
So we are only halfway through our stay and I am so happy with this stay. They upgraded us to a higher floor room with a bay view. Had a king with a couch. My daughter got sick last night and we wanted her to have her own bed, so they gave us a different room. This room was also high level with multiple views and a sitting room! They also sent up milk and cookies for my daughter! And the bar gave me a tall glass of apple juice on the house because the lounge doesn’t have juices.
We had appetizers at the lounge. Very good. Veggies, cheeses, chicken and gourmet Mac n cheese. We had dinner at the steakhouse here and it was nice. I had read it was slow, and that is true but still great service and servers and DELICIOUS food! And then can’t forget the dessert in the lounge, cookies, little chocolate cakes etc.
Being a Marriott club member definitely has it perks!
Breakfast at the lounge was good. Typical hotel Breakfasts with a few extras thrown in. Personal sized cereals, yogurts, fruits, pastries, scrambled eggs and ham and boiled eggs.
I will definitely stay here again! For sure!

Great new look at lobby level, though rooms are pretty tired looking. I am a Platinum Premier member and normally am in one of the nicer rooms that any Marriott has to offer. So, if the room I had represents the best they’ve got, then I am concerned and would just have people be aware that rooms don’t match the freshness of the main part of the hotel. (I am upgraded based on availability and know for certain there was availability as Associate rate was available. So either rooms are really as old as I experienced or I was not properly upgraded as a Platinum Premier guest).
Service was solid at the front desk, though particularly memorable in restaurant with Bernadette! She is exemplary with her service orientation and kindness. It is worth a visit for breakfast just to chat with her and soak in the beautiful bay views.
One thing representative on the other side of service relates to a perception of lack of cleanliness topped by a miscommunication on the part of staff. Upon getting to my room I had to move a half empty bottle of water out of the doorway (outside of door) to enter. At first I was worried if someone was in my room, though it was thankfully vacant. I called front desk to notify them of situation and they said they’d have the bottle removed from the hall outside door. When I left the room this morning the dirty bottle of water was still there and a new bottle (unopened) was added and sitting next to it. What a strange miscommunication and lack of poor judgment on the part of person who dropped it off to leave the other bottle there. So odd…
The new Club Lounge is great, though I still enjoy the restaurant for delicious frittata and pretty views.
