History

Established in 2010.

I come from a longstanding tradition of high-​quality, family-​run men’s and women’s wear in Texas and the Bay Area. Extensive travel to Europe – Italy, in particular –has afforded me the opportunity to meet the people behind the products and enhance my appreciation for and knowledge of the best designed and fabricated apparel.

My early passions for clothes, color, design as well as degrees in photography and painting translate into an eye for fit, custom tailoring as well as choosing the right selections for the store and clients.

At an early age, I spent my summers and holidays working at Malouf’s in Lubbock, Texas. By the time I was 18, I started buying for the store which honed my skills at appraising fabrics and understanding fit. In 1982, I joined the family business as a partner.

In 2010 with my passion for clothing as strong as ever, I decided to open my own store and continue an 87-​year history of bringing quality clothing to Burlingame. I Invite you to vist my store.

Great service. Came in here a few times during their sale events. They have a lot more for men than women, which is why I took off one star. The staff for the mens side also seems to be more informed about their offerings and was able to provide more helpful suggestions to my husband. The lady that helped me out seemed to be a bit aloof (get it. malouf, aloof) and just followed me around instead of helping me figure out what to get. But overall, the store has a great selection and comfortable dressing rooms.

Today my son Clayton was fitted at this amazing store. I was so impressed! My son is a high functioning autistic young man and he is working with PARCA. On Wednesday he will be modeling fine attire donated by Sam Malouf. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and kindness we experienced today. Bless kind hearts and souls.

This place earns five stars for being that local store that can cater to sartorially inclined. Prices may be a bit on a high side, but how do you think a small store can survive in the place surrounded by chain stores.
Now of clothing… What you would find here is a blend for the eye that likes the preppy part of New England and a casual part found in Southern Europe. Very similar to Peter Millar and the likes. You can also order some made-​to-​measure items where your own creativity is the limit.

Sam runs a top notch retail business, which is a challenge to find on the peninsula, especially in Burlingame! My husband shops here almost exclusively based on customer service, selection, and Sam himself. I plan on doing exactly the same when he expands to include women’s clothing.

This is my favorite men’s store. I know it’s pricey, but you get what you pay for. I’ve tried Nordstom and I never get fitted properly. I always get great service here and perfect clothes. If you can this is the best place to buy men’s clothes.

If I ever purchase $ 395 raw denim jeans, $ 60 Zegna boxers, or a button down dress shirt for $ 495, slap me!
The store is an amazing display of clothing for the 1%. A full complementary bar so you can get liquored up to spend $ 7,000 for a suit?
I spend fair amount for my business attire, however, this place is way over the top. Yes, the sales associates are very nice. They should be if you buy $ 30 black socks.

I’ve been shopping with Sam since before his store moved from down the block. He has always treated me well, even when I used to go into the store with my father as a kid. Once I got old enough to buy dress clothes for myself, the obvious choice to add luxurious, unique pieces to my wardrobe was Sam Malouf. He carries many brands that you will not find at large retailers like Macy’s or Bloomingdales. Although pricey, you can’t find a better clothier on the peninsula. A custom Kiton or Zegna suit is a great way to add an elegant piece to your wardrobe that you will have for years. He also has many nice pieces to spice up your casual ware, from elegant sweaters to nice button down shirts that are sure to get recognized.

As good as it gets. I’ve been a client of Barneys, Hermitage, Charvet, Bergdorf, etc. The level of taste, variety of clothing, number of unique items, the ability to blend styles and to develop a unique wardrobe and the customer service is unsurpassed. I live in LA and make a special point to visit when I’m in the Bay Area. Sam is knowledgeable, creative, knows the best factories and is totally dedicated to the customer experience.

One of the last of the family owned business on Burlingame Ave! I wanted a proper tailored suit and was well pleased with a beautiful, timeless, classic style. The fit was spot on and the service was excellent. Being my first time in the store, I was truly just exploring and Mr. Sam Malouf himself took the time to talk with me, show me various suits but was never overly pushy or obsequious. A real pleasure doing business with
really fine people.
All in all, if you’re in the area, I definitely recommend visiting Sam Malouf on the Avenue!

What can I say? This men’s clothing boutique is amazing… they go around the world to find the best niche and hand made clothing out there. Why go to Nordstrom’s when you can set yourself apart from everyone else by having stuff hardly anyone else has.

if quality and fit is the name of your game, then this is your store! they sell everything from sportswear brands such as barbour, to hand tailored premium brands such as kiton. a very nicely laid out store, and the staff is always friendly & very knowledgeable.
sam, himself, has a great sense of taste and style, and only stocks the store with what customers will love. always a good guy to talk to.
i enjoy shopping at a independent shop like sam malouf, versus those huge department chains any day!

The service here is superior. I ordered something from Europe and made it here in 13 days. Sam dealt with it personally. They are humble and genuinely concerned about providing care and professionalism. I’m one to frown on arrogance and while this place is 5-​star for quality and professionalism, I was impressed to see that it was humble too. Sam is such a gentleman. When I’m in town, I will surely get my brother and father something to last years of enjoyment.

The previous reviews of this place smack of being written by the owner, or employees. Seriously — do you ever walk in to a clothing store and say, «what a beautiful layout.»? I would hazard that most people don’t really care about the interior design of their suit shop — at least not consciously.
As for a real review of Malouf’s:
The prices are high and selection is so-​so. I’m all for mom and pop shops — but they have offer something better than a big box (better service at least). It’s a good place for furnishings and shoes, but you’re better off at Saks or your designer of choice, if you’re looking for a suit. The casual stuff is over the top for my taste — but that really is a personal preference thing. If you like high end italian casual… Malouf’s is your place. They location is great if you live in Burlingame or near by. Easy to find, decent parking, not too crowded on the weekends.

This is a beautiful store. Sam has created a gorgeous space, and he only carries the best men’s clothes. Everything in the store is stylish and high quality. I have a friend who comes from Berkeley to shop here, because there are so few good men’s clothing stores. Sam is extremely helpful, and has a good eye for what looks good.
