If I could give this Tea Room 10 stars, I would! We held my sister’s baby shower here. It was a small gathering of 10 people. Will, the owner, is probably one of the coolest human beings I have met in a long time. He was super accommodating and very charming. His staff is very sweet and patient. We were able to bring in an outside cake, although now that I know Will is a baker, I would have had him do it if I knew better. Will allowed us to bring in all our own table décor and even helped with setting it up. He prepared for us a lovely tea with ample salad, sandwiches, baked goods (so good!) and handmade truffles. He completed our meal with hot chocolate made with tea and almond milk. I cannot wait to make another trip down to the bay to see Will and enjoy his lovely tea room! Seriously a hidden gem!

We went to Rue Du The today for a baby shower being given for my daughter. I had absolutely no idea this place was here — it’s kind of hidden at the end of a little walkway. What a great place. Will was the perfect host. He has a great sense of humor, very accommodating and friendly, and the chocolate was amazing. He made us a hot chocolate blend with almond milk that was very rich and delicious. We had truffles with a hint of cinnamon and the sandwiches, salad, and pastry tower were perfect for a light afternoon lunch. I would definitely go here again. Thank you Will for making the shower so much fun!

Was in Burlingame today for a mom and daughter shopping day so we went in to refill our tea blends which had been depleted from home. Since it was lunch time decided to sit and get tea for two. Will was amazing as usual and suggested the My Fair Lady tea blend which was great. Another lovely Sunday afternoon of tea time.

Great staff, incredible tea, homey place you want to spend your day.
I came here today to spend time focusing on work I needed to get done. The women running the place were super nice, really took care of me — like I was part of the family.
Hidden gem in Burlingame.

My friend and I ordered the tea for two, and we selected the Kazoodle tea (I honestly don’t remember the name of the tea, but it tasted like cookies so I was down) and for our sandwiches we tried the salmon as well as the egg salad.
All of it was delicious, especially the chocolate scones with the strawberry jam. The guy who was working their also brought us extra petit-​fours, which was really nice of him and a great way to finish the meal.
I’m definitely going to be coming back here.

Stellar place! I love the ambiance, and the guy who works up front– I don’t remember his name– IS PHENOMENAL. He helped us choose a wonderful tea that wasn’t too sweet or fruity.
Don’t forget to order tea for two! This dish to share offers sandwiches, FRESHLY BAKED goods and bites, and a fresh salad for two. The tea for two is definitely worth it, and I definitely recommend getting the Hedy mix.
Oh, and the artwork that lines the walls here are beautiful. I can tell that the owners of this restaurant have put in a lot of care and attention into their work and their trade!

I came in to do hw with a friend and we decided to do the Tea for Two. As you probably can tell from the pictures, the tea for two comes with this super cute tower of deliciousness.
The top level consists of some FRESHLY BAKED pastries. No joke, the owner wakes up early to bake these pastries at 5 am. I guess it varies from day to day, but we had some scones, made lines, and these shortbread cookies with chocolate. It came with some fruit preserve (strawberry I think?). The pastries were definitely the highlight of the meal.
The Mid level was this delicious green mix salad with cranberries, nuts, and a wonderful dressing (didn’t catch the name). Yummy and healthy.
The bottom level was for the finer sandwiches. I opted for the salmon salad, and my friend chose the Brie and tomato. Both were delicious, but I prefer my pick.
And last but not least… The TEA! We went with the owners’ recommendation and went for the Hedy’s mix. We were definitely not disappointed.
Next time I want to try the masala chai because it smelled AMAZING.

The best place to get tea in Burlingame, it’s a little hidden jem behind Burlingame Ave. Walk through Gap or Pottery Barn and you will see it.

You either really need to impress or disappoint me to get me to write a review. I brought my daughter here for tea and she was very excited. Upon arrival we were told to sit anywhere and they would come help us. 20 minutes later still no one had checked on us. My daughter who is very shy even walked up to the ladies behind the counter to ask for a menu and was ignored. Can’t speak for the tea and food as we never got to that point… but very disappointing service.

So impressed that I now get my tea sent to Ireland. Keep up the great work Will and we will aim to visit soon. Go Tiffany’s.

The service was amazing! I came here for high tea with a friend for her birthday and the weather was nice enough to enjoy our tea on their cozy outdoor patio. The tea was great and staff was really knowledgeable and helpful in providing recommendations based on flavors we enjoyed. The whole tea service was wonderful and I always suggest this place to catch up with friends!

This business is actually called: «Leland Tea Company». Several names can be seen on the side of the building: Rue du The, Leland…
It’s not easily visible from the street (across from Sur La Table) but that’s what makes its terrace so pleasant and quiet.
Décor is amazingly thoughtful and chic with a Parisian nostalgia. Teas are plentiful and well displayed. We had a pot of the «Seven Year Fig» black tea. From the great display panel with tea samples, this smelled best: of honey, figs and black tea. Based on scent, I also bought and tried Rooibos Chai at home: super yummy also. The Sencha was just OK but at least it’s organic and from a controlled source. My only small suggestion: replenishing the small sample jars with tea; most of them don’t have much of a smell anymore.
I heartily recommend trying the tea and chocolate truffles: the «Earl Grey» is quite remarkable and the spicy one (I forget the name) is not for the faint of heart. If you do get some tea and truffles, don’t forget there’s a discount for a pot of tea plus a flight of truffles:

Such a lovely, secret gem here in Burlingame! It’s up-​to-​date, clean, always friendly, delicious teas and tasty, fresh made in house treats. It’s pricey like most things are in Burlingame, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for :) Definitely worth being a regular and bringing friends, family, spouses and/​or dates here for a unique, understated experience!

I got there at 6 and had no idea they were closing, the gentlemen working there was so sweet amd recommended the tiffany to me. Right when i sat down they were closing! I was so sad, but they told me to take my time and even brought flowers to my table. It was a longggg work day and it was nice to sit down, relax and enjoy a cup of tea without being rushed out. Would need to stop by again for sure:)

I was unsure what to expect — trying to make a reservation for afternoon tea did not leave a good impression on me. When I first called, I was told to call back because they were too busy to help me. When I did call back to make the reservation, it felt a bit rushed that I decided to email to confirm my reservation a few days before. I received a prompt reply confirming my reservation, so I felt better after that.
I was expecting it to be really busy on the Sunday afternoon we went, but it was pretty mellow with just a couple other 2-​person parties there. Service was excellent from the guy who runs the place! His mom and another guy working there checked up on us as well. Sitting outside was so peaceful, and the weather was very nice with a cool breeze. All the parties present sat outside, and the tables were spaced out which was nice.
The tea and food were good, and what a steal at about $ 30 for two people! I chose a fruity black tea, and was brought out ice so I could have iced tea instead. (Note: you get one big pot of tea between the two of you.) We had our choice of two sandwiches and went with cucumber and egg salad. Green salad came with our food, as did Madeleine’s, short bread cookies, and scones. The only disappointment were the scones, which were rock hard and just not very good.
Other than the scones, I was really pleased with my experience here :) Totally made up for the bit of an ordeal it was to make the reservation over the phone!

Don’t come here. I want to keep this place to myself.
The selection of tea is the best in Burlingame. And the crazy owner lets you order off menu and off catalog; if you describe the kind of tea you want, he may just make you a custom blend on the spot.
The chicken sandwich is awesome. The tea lunch is great for a leisurely meal. Scones, cookies, chocolate. Internet.

Pros: modern and comfortable, great food and tea, wonderful service
Cons: pricey in general, but on par for tea service
Came with a group of 6 for tea service to celebrate a baby sprinkle. Very responsive and easy to make a reservation. Had a great table on the patio. Service was excellent — very sweet and attentive. Food was good with a nice selection, tea was delicious.
What set this apart from other teas rooms I have been to: 1) The décor is modern, clean, and refined so it still feels like a lovely tea experience without overkill on the florals and antiques. 2) We were not rushed at all. We were able to enjoy our food, tea and company for three hours without anyone rushing us to finish our courses or leave for the next seating. It was lovely.

Get a reservation if you plan on coming here. People like to throw baby showers here and what not, so the tables might be all taken up by big, loud groups. We’re lucky they still had an open table when the two of us visited, but eventually the party got so loud we had to move outside to another table after another party left.
They have a good tea selection, with a wide range of flavours. We went with a puerh tea and it was fragrant and had good flavour.
I wasn’t as impressed with the food. The food was pretty huge and probably too much for actual tea time. There were 2 sandwiches, 2 madeleines, 2 scones, 2 shortbreads and a salad for the two of us. Salad is not a finger food. I don’t know why so many American tea places insist on serving salad. Perhaps it’s more healthy, but then you shouldn’t serve much food in the first place! Tsk tsk.
The sandwiches were decent but the baked goods were definitely not that great. Especially when so many of them are starchy baked items that serve the same purpose — I prefer smaller pieces of food but with greater variety (like more sandwich flavours, multiple fruit tarts, a couple bite-​pieces of cakes etc).
I am probably just really picky since I come from a previously British-​ruled territory. Tea is such a broad concept — you could easily have a piece of tart with some tea and call it tea time, but when people advertise «tea for two» and serve it on a layered platter, I expected more.
Some people commented on the good service, but the shop was so swamped with the baby shower the day I was there, we didn’t really experience any of that. Nothing against them though…

I had a wonderful time here. Such a great place to go, the vibe is irresistible. I love the posters on the wall with the animals and the San Francisco neighborhoods.
The tea was awesome and the guy there (I think his name is Will) was incredibly nice to us. You really have to look hard to find that type of customer service anywhere in Burlingame.
If I lived closer it would be my go to study spot :)

Tucked down on a long drive way is Rue de The. A small little cottage-​esque front with little tables inside and out. It was a very warm day and looking for a breeze we took an outside table. In fact, the owner (I’m assuming he’s the owner since he named some of the teas after his 9 older sisters) kindly set up a new table for us in the shade.
He was super charming and very kind. He gave my son a madeline while we ordered as a treat.
My friend Amy and I ordered tea for two (~$ 28). Comes with 2 scones, 2 cookies, 2 madelines, salad, choice of 2 sandwiches and a pot of tea.
Overall food was ok.
–Scones: buttery crumbly and served with jam but would have loved some clotted cream.
–Cookies: simple. cute. lemon iced shortbread for example. just not outstanding.
–Sandwiches: Chicken salad, again nice. Cucumber cream cheese open faced sandwich was nice.
–Salad: Shopped greens with carrots. A bit unusual to see with tea.
–Tea per my friend was a special blend of black and something. She enjoyed it.
Owner made me something non caffeinated with citrus and over ice. Very nice. Non sweetened which was refreshing.
Honestly it’s the service that makes this a great place. And they do have many different types of teas for the colder times of year. It’s a quaint retreat from the chain stores and shopper frenzy on Burlingame Ave.

Surfing around Groupon I stumbled upon their deal of $ 16 for tea for two and thought why not especially since I always enjoy high tea and love to try out new high tea places.
The place was a little hidden but eventually we got there. They have indoor and outdoor seatings. However, the interior décor wasn’t really what I expect from a ‘high tea’ place but it look more suited for a café. There were paintings scattered around the place and although the place is clean it doesn’t have the cutesy, shabby chic or elegance that I usually associate with high tea.
There were two guys running the place and although they did check up on us two or three times I wasn’t entirely into the experience. Maybe it’s the awkward way of giving us a menu to choose two sandwiches, we sit down then get back up and stand in front of the cashier again to tell them our sandwich choices, and then when we finally finished and went to pay we waited a good 10 minutes in line with a bunch of other people cutting in line and such. Just seems disorganized and chaotic. Why don’t they have waiters who come around with menus and ask for our choices and give us the check? With everyone standing awkwardly in line and filling up the place it just leaves a bad impression on me.
Now finally onto the food. I was glad at the very least it did come in a three tiered display of sandwiches, salads, and pastries on top. I was a little disappointed that we didn’t have any tea choices that came with the deal although it didn’t seem like they had many choices anyways.
For sandwiches we chose and tomatoes and Brie and chicken salad. The sandwiches were small and there were little filling. It was also very okay.
The salad didn’t look fresh and it tasted exactly like those packets of salads you would get from the grocery store with dressing packets. I’m pretty sure they didn’t make their own salad and dressings because they just look and taste store bought.
The tea biscuits, scones, madeleines also tasted store bought. I’ve been to multiple high tea places and I’ve never had a scone that had this muffin-​like texture. I don’t know if that’s just the store bought ones they went with or if it was left out a while or what. The tea biscuits and madeleines also look and tasted like those that came from boxed pastries from the grocery store.
All in all, it was a disappointing high tea experience if you can call it that. I only gave it one more star because for $ 16 for two isn’t bad, however I probably would never pay more than that for what I experienced. I would rather go to any other high tea places and spend a little more money to get better service, food, and experience. I think if you’ve never had high yea and you just want to eat lunch and don’t really expect anything then this might be an appealing alternative. However, if you’re looking for a more authentic high tea experience cast your gaze elsewhere.

4 stars for service but 3 stars for the «high tea’ experience & average tasting food.
I got a sweet groupon deal for $ 16 tea for two which includes a choice of 2 tea sandwiches, house salad, 2 scones, 2 madeleines, 2 tea biscuits, and a pot of tea (standard English style black tea).
For some reason, I had issues pulling up my Groupon voucher on my phone and could only show the manager my receipt but he didn’t give me a hard time about it & manually inputted my discount into the register :) He was also really good with refilling our pot of tea throughout our dining experience.
On to the food:
Tea sandwiches: we chose salmon salad & tomato and brie. Honestly, I couldn’t even tell my sandwich had salmon in it. it tasted like canned tuna with mayonnaise and while it wasn’t terrible tasting, it definitely wasn’t anything I couldn’t have whipped up at home in less than 5 minutes. The tomato & brie was good but also very average tasting.
The salad tasted like your standard complimentary salad with meal purchase at any restaurant.
The scones did not have the crumbly, scone consistency that I’m used to but instead had a muffin-​like consistency… Again, it wasn’t bad but its definitely not comparable to scones from other tea places I’ve tried (ex: the English Rose in Pleasanton). The Madeleines were also average, tasted store bought instead of freshly baked in house. Honestly, the tea biscuits were the yummiest out of the dessert plate because it reminded me of those butter sugar cookies you can get from Costco during the Holidays (in those metal tins – if you know what I’m talking about, then you’re cool!)
The tea was good-​Black, English style, and you can’t really get it wrong.
Overall, for $ 16 I can’t complain because nothing was terrible tasting and I did love the chill vibe and Gatsby-​esque décor. However, they do charge $ 27.95 regular price for tea for 2 and I certainly would not pay that price for the quality of food that I got.

I got a Groupon for Leland Tea in Burlingame which is the new name for this place. The Groupon included two scones, two madeleine cookies, two shortbread cookies, a house salad, two sandwiches, and bottomless house tea for $ 16. This is usually a $ 27.95 deal.
We showed up without a reservation on saturday around noon and luckily there was a table open! There were lots of reserved signs on the area and plenty of people stopping in and out. The service there was great. They explained to us how their teas work even though we don’t get to choose the tea for the tea for two deal.
The food was decent for a tea place and their house tea was fragrant but not too bold. They also cut off the crusts on their sandwiches so :) They got really busy so it was hard to flag down someone for a second pot of tea… but overall, the service was great and it’s really just an adorable little tea place. I would definitely go back here again!

It’s called quality time with mum, and what this usually entails is a nice cup of tea and sandwiches, English and old-​style.
Like mum.
The service here is slooowwww. I guess it’s because we’re the only one’s under 80 here. For the senior citizens amongst us, I’m sure this is the highlight of their day, sitting for 2 hours waiting on their cup «o» tea and sandwiches.
But, since my mum and I are both under retirement age, we’d like to be served before while we’re young enough to get out of here without a walker.
The tea was quite good, but the sandwiches were so plain if I hadn’t seen them preparing it, I would have thought they got it from a vending machine.
Mum chose the salmon and chicken sandwiches. Both were so bland we could barely tell which was which. It tasted like paste. Bleh.
The scones had no flavor, just breadlike, even though we ordered the chocolate chip. I couldn’t even taste the chocolate in it.
Maybe we were at some Twilight Zone retirement tea shop. But, please, when I’m 80, don’t send me here… send me to Lovejoy’s instead, thanks.
