History

Established in 1944.

In 1944, when Mrs. Frank T «Billie» Ross opened AVR Realty, the dow jones average was approaching 153

Everyone knew the war was over and the GI’s would return jobless to factories closing down their defense manufacturing. Interest rates were below 2% and two years later, inflation would be at 30%.

However, AVR has been selling, renting and managing San Mateo County properties out of the same office at 1169 Broadway, Burlingame since that time.

AVR’s second broker, from 1961 to 1988, Anna V. Bruce, was also president of the San Mateo/​Burlingame Board of Realtors during the years of 1978 and 1979. Under her administration, the board changed from printed, mailed information to computers.

The current broker, Ross C. Bruce represents the third generation at AVR, making it the oldest continually operating family-​held real estate firm in San Mateo County.

I was fortunate enough to find a home in san mateo for rent in 2014 managed by AVR Realty. Since day one, my experience with this team of professional property managers has been outstanding. Having been a homeowner for the past 20 years, I was a bit leary of being a renter again. Every time I needed something fixed at the home, Ross & Sally were right on it. Their handyman Yuri can fix anything and everything! Yuri even came by on a Saturday night when I had an issue with the door. I would recommend this team to anyone who is looking for a rental, a property management company or a real estate agent!

I saw an apt in San Mateo, paid my $ 35 background check, never heard anything back. Emailed them two days later, was told I was approved and they’d contact me with more information soon. Never heard back. Called them four days later, was told a one-​bedroom or studio in Burlingame might be opening up in the next few days and they’d contact me. Never heard back. Gave up. Would rate lower than one star if possible… and I’m out the $ 35 background check. Yay. Avoid them, waste of your time and money.

I had rented an apartment in Burlingame not too long ago and my experience was nothing but pleasant. I was surprised to see a lot of negative reviews on Unilocal before. Everyone at the office was a pleasure to talk to.
The first day of my lease, I did not have a car yet since I had moved across the country, and intended to walk from their office all the way to Burlingame ave. Sally offered me a ride to my place instead, which I accepted and really appreciated.
Maintenance requests were handled promptly. They know a ton about Burlingame and will give you plenty of advice if you happen stop by.

I asked a friend for a referral for a property management company. She told to contact AVR Realty in Burlingame on Broadway. I am very pleased that I did because AVR is presently assisting me with my real estate needs. In addition, I am very happy with their personalized service, impeccable record keeping and prompt follow-​up telephone calls. This company has been offering property management at the same location for many years on Broadway and that tells me they are in business for the long term. When you need property management, give them a telephone call.

The AVR Team has been so helpful and friendly with my apartment hunt.
They allow you to view apartments at you own leisure. The process of getting the apartment of the your choice is very easy and fast.
The receptionist, Sally and the owner make you feel like family.

Good news… new management! The main guy left which allowed property managers who actually care to step up. I was contacted to discuss my concerns over the years. They listened to my ranting and asked if they could meet me personally to make sure they address all my concerns in full. Great turn around, responsive, and attentive. Thank goodness!

I rented a studio off Broadway, Burlingame just shy of a year. I received my security payment back in full — within a week after departure, along with a refund for the remainder of the month as I moved out mid-​month. I was very pleased.
A few issues came up during my stay and everything was attended to promptly. For example, my gas heater was the original one and needed replacement. All I had to do was schedule a time directly with the installer.
If you are in need of a reasonable rental with an attentive property manager, stop by their office (and grab a bite next door at Royal Café). Pick up one of their sheets listing vacancies for their numerous properties. That’s how I found my apartment.
Everyone in the office is really nice — and Tillie alway appreciates the attention (that’s the friendly canine in the office).

I got my first apartment a week ago because of Sally and I have never been happier ! Thank goodness for Sally ! She is one of the most organized and persistent business woman I have ever come in contact with. She is so prompt and attentive and is very helpful. If you are looking for a place in this crazy, out of control rental market you need to get in touch with Sally. Trust is a huge thing for me, and I felt that I could and can trust Sally 1,000% ! The receptionist in the front is also very nice and attentive also ! If you need a place and fast go to AVR Realty !

I’ve known about Sally since moving to Burlingame in 1998. But this is the first chance I had to work with her and AVR. All I can say is thank goodness for Sally! In this crazy rental market she found us a great home, staying in the right school district for our kids, and got us moved in in record time. Besides that Sally and everyone in the office were a pleasure to work with. At a time when many other agents make you feel like you are just one of 50 people wanting a house, to work with someone like Sally who makes you feel like she is just looking after you is rare and much appreciated by my wife and me. Thank you Sally.

Sally Navarro is not an agent that will work hard for you. I would not rely or count on her for anything. I called a property for rent in late December 2012. Sally answered and said the rent was $ 2375. I offered $ 2100 and mentioned I have excellent credit so it wouldn’t be a problem getting accepted. She said she would ask the owner, but I would have to call her back in two days for an answer. At that time I didn’t know why she wanted me to call her back instead of her calling me once she had an answer. I’m a professional execitive and I don’t have time to waste. However, two days later I called Sally back because I said I would and I wanted the apartment and liked the location. Sally didn’t even speak to the owner, she felt I would not call back so she did nothing. She eventually said the rent will not come down. Now, it’s February 2013, and the same apartment complex has the same size unit available for $ 2100. Sally could have had a renter nearly two months earlier, but was too lazy to do any «leg-​work.» Landlords, beware if you use Sally Navarro or AVR Realty to manage and rent out your property. She is not looking out for your best interest. A review by Besty S on 9÷13÷12 is spot on. I couldn’t agree with that review more.

Tom Lunkley of AVR Realty has been involved with our business, real estate, and rental property for three years. He served closely as an unpaid advisor during the time we held a small business catering to area apartment owners, landlords and property managers.
When we sold the business he advised on and brokered the sale. One year later he promoted and handled the sale of our warehouse/​office building. Due largely to Tom’s market knowledge, we had a cash offer within 24 hours. Shortly after, he arranged the rental of our small personal condo. He had it rented within ten minutes of the listing.
Throughout all of the above, Tom proved himself an educated advisor and scrupulous professional realtor, who often took proactive steps to satisfy our multiple demands. It was a pleasure to conduct business with a man with Tom’s work ethic and integrity. We would definitely use Tom Lunkley for any business or real estate transaction again.

If your looking for a company with rude and arrogant people to do business with than this ones for you. I had the displeasure of having to deal with these people twice. The 1st time was about 2 years ago when I needed the address to send our HOA payment to. Called 3 times. No return calls. Had to find out on my own. The 2nd and most recent time was 8÷20÷12 Every time I called the person handling our condo was always either out of the office or unavailable. I e-​mailed him with a maintenance question about our unit. That was on Mon. Today is Fri. No response from AVR all week. What a way to conduct a business. People beware!!!

I don’t even think they deserve one star… very unresponsive and not personal at all! I called on on Friday and left a detailed message regarding one of the rentals and they never called me back so I called the following week and the agent couldn’t answer my questions. She had to «call» the owner and would get back to me. When i told her my last name she didn’t even respond (we have the same last name). So I’m still waiting for a call back, which I don’t think I’ll ever get.

Dealt with AVR for about 5 years and it is the WORST! Either no return calls or response time about 2 – 3 weeks. Confronted Tom, the property manager, and he said he was overworked and the owner didn’t want to hire anyone else. If Tom was not available, there was NO ONE ELSE to direct me to. The people who answer the phone just said «Do you want his voicemail?» I asked, «Is there someone else who can help me?» «No,» they would reply. «Do you want his voicemail?» they would ask again. Getting his voicemail was like not getting any help at all. Do not hire this company. They have horrible customer service.

I have had a few experiences with Property Management companies but these people are something far from an experience. Why? Because they are so rude & non-​responsive that you don’t even get a chance to share an experience with them.
I was having electrical shorts and reported it to them, letting them know I had no electricity and that the fuses were blowing every hour. After following up (by leaving messages) with them 3 times, they finally sent some one 7 days later! No phone call, No email, No letter. Same ol song with a plumbing issue I reported. No response, No contact at all. Ended up fixing it myself.
Currently looking for a Property Management company that actually wants their tenants to stay! I would love to know how much these property owners are paying them for this horrible «Prop Management».

I agree with Christina– I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with this man and he truly does not care about any of the tenants he works with. It’s very frustrating when a simple issue cannot be resolved as a result of his overall unwillingness to help his tenants. He is unbelievably rude, and seems to think that any minor issue in the complex is my fault and not his responsibility to fix. I definitely do not want to continue living in a place where my concerns are not only dismissed, but treated as if they are an annoyance to the one person/​organization who should care about my happiness in my home. I don’t think I should feel guilty when there is something wrong with the home that he should be managing, but that’s definitely how I feel every time I’ve had to call him. I certainly hope for the company’s sake that AVR will find a way to improve this or replace this individual.
On a more positive note, I had to drop off my rent check in person one month and had the pleasure of speaking with their lovely receptionist. I’m not sure what her name is, but I entered the place getting ready to deal with Tom, and instead found myself smiling and laughing with her on the way out. I hope AVR will continue to hire people like her.
