Acura By Doug

It’s hard to find great small businesses these days and even harder to find a great mechanic. My husband and I both bought Acuras within the past year and were looking for someone that would be cost effective outside of the rip-​off of the car dealership. Doug has become a personal friend to our family. We are always able to work out good times to get our car in based on our schedules and there is always great service. Finding Doug was a God send for our family and we wouldn’t consider having anyone else to take care of our cars. Keep up the great work guys!

Thanks to Unilocal for helping me find yet another super star business. Now that my TSX is out of warranty, I wanted to switch to an independent mechanic and stop going to the dealer (disclaimer: Doug MAY do Acura warranty service too, I just made an assumption he didn’t but it’s worth checking). I found Doug and he’s well worth the drive from SF.
I had a broken HID light that he resolved for potentially hundreds less than the dealer, and was also very quick and gave me an accurate completion time estimate. He’s honest, knows his stuff, and is very courteous and professional.
The shop is super clean and easy to get to — right off 101.

I was super happy with my 45k mile service for a Lexus GX470. I found Doug on Unilocal.Called him about 9am. Dropped my car off a little after 10am. I got a call around noon saying my front brakes needed replacement. I agreed. At 6:30 that day I picked my car up. On top of this, he helped me program my car for needed services, replaced a battery in my key and offered a 15% discount to first time customers.
He is a one man company doing the work himself. I felt like I got great service at a fair price. I’ll definitely go back for future services.

Just in for my «checkup» and service. Never thought I would like going to the car repair place, but Doug is so pleasant and so knowledgeable. He sourced and fixed a rattle that I forgot to mention and repaired a sticky window… at no extra charge. This facility is clean, the work areas are clean and I have never had my car returned with hand prints or grease smudges like the dealership.
Keep up the great service. I highly recommend Acura by Doug. p. s. He is also doing my business partner’s car which is a Lexus and the receptionists car which is a Honda.
Again 5 stars!

So if you have read my other reviews on Unilocal,then you already know how meticulous I am. I first called Doug up on a seat that would not recline on my CL Type S. I was pretty upset about this, and the job was rather expensive, but Doug took care of it asap and much cheaper than the dealer.
The second time I had an issue with my car was recently when it stalled out as I was driving! Sux! I immediately called Doug since he gained my trust on the 1^st job, and boy was it an even better experience this time around.
See the thing with Doug is he won’t actually do work on your car UNLESS he feels like it needs it. For example, prior to this little issue that I had with my car stalling, and being that my car was already over 90k (the recommended interval to change the timing belt) I called Doug and asked him if he could do it for me. After I told him I keep the car garaged, and that my Acura is mainly a night/​weekend car, he honestly told me that I was o. k and my car did not need it yet. Who does that??? What mechanic wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to do a job that is easily close to $ 1000.00 bucks. Well, it sure as heck is not Doug Fabris.
Ok well this review is getting kind of lengthy, so I brought my car in for Doug to look at it one evening. Being that I wasn’t off until 6 p. m, he hung around til about 8 p. m to look at my car.
After he got done diagnosing my car, he suggested I change the spark plugs and some other part of which I cannot recall at the moment. Anyhow, point being is that, again, what mechanic suggests you do your own work??? He didn’t jump at the opportunity to do it for me. At that point and being that I am afraid to touch my own car, I asked Doug how much he would charge me to do that job and then I left my car there with him.
When I picked my car up two days later, he gave me a discount, less than what he originally quoted me!
That’s all I have to say about Doug, if you want to take your car to the dealer and get raped go ahead, otherwise go to Acura by Doug, you will not be disappointed.

I have taken my 2004 Honda element to Doug for at least a year (maybe 2 now). He is wonderful. I feel the service and prices are fair and that he is always honest with me. Would highly recommend.

Been taking my Acura RSX and my wife’s Accord here for a few years now. Been nothing short of perfect each and every time. I’m lucky to work just down the street on Rollins Road, and Doug has driven me to my place of work, more than once when the weather has not been nice. The other business owner that shares the building is Mike. He is just as nice and professional.

How lucky did I get to call these guys instead of the Acura dealership!
My radio requires a secret code that I do not have. Had to change my battery so everything was reset. Called up doug, swung by and he made my radio work again. He also told me what the funny sound my car was making.
All at no cost.

What can I say. Doug is as honest as they come. He’s affordable to. Just had a 90,000 mile service done and paid less than I thought I would. I will return for my next minor or major service here.

Doug is awesome. I went to Doug to have a regular service on my car, he was affordable and quick. I went to Doug when a random dude on a bike decided to ride into my car, and he helped me find a good autobody. Anytime something weird happens with my car, Doug is the first guy I call. A ton of my friends are mechanics, and though it would be easy and cheap to use them, I trust Doug has my best interest, and my cars best interest at heart, that’s why I keep coming back.

I never thought to post anything on here about the shop, but after seeing these 2 reviews saying how awesome Doug’s shop was… I had to put in my two cents. I got screwed for about $ 6 – 7000. I went in there because I thought I bent my valves… I did a diagnostic at autozone, and based on the codes and what others told me… I made the conclusion that my valves were bent. I took the car to Acura by Doug assuming it would cost around $ 2000. He calls me back basically saying, great news it isn’t your valves! Here I am thinking Doug just saved me all this money… puts the engine back together, then calls me later on in the day saying to me that it was indeed my valves and he would need to keep the car longer, as well as charge me even more for his mistake. FINALLY, the car is done… I go to pick up the car and Doug isn’t there to give me a quick test drive. Instead, his partner releases the car to me. I drive the car off the lot into the street and it dies… I coast to the side of the road. I call Doug, and he has no idea why it would do that. Had to have my car towed back to the shop. Finally Doug checks out the car, and gets back to me. He tells me that it’s going to cost an additional $ 3000 to fix something that wasn’t even my fault. The only thing wrong was that I had bent valves. I could have replaced the entire engine for half the cost of what Doug charged me. I ended up getting my car back, and losing almost $ 7000. It doesn’t end here… a week later I drove my car up El Camino… I rarely drive the car because I take public transportation during the week. As I’m driving, I start hearing a loud knocking sound… sounds pretty bad, like my engine is banging around. I refused to take the car back to Doug in fear of what he would f*ck up next. I find out that he didn’t put all the screws back to mount the engine properly!!! I don’t know if he did this on purpose to f*ck with me because I got so angry on the phone with him, but he did it. As much as I wanted to take Acura by Doug to small claims court, it would be another headache that I just didn’t want. Hope that this message helps anyone who is looking for a shop to go to. Don’t go to Acura by Doug. Maybe for little things like an oil change, it aint a big deal, but for anything serious, i wouldn’t trust him. Not that Doug is a bad guy, I got the sense that he is a good guy… and I hope that he truly is a good guy. I just don’t think he really knows what he’s doing.

Wow this guy stuck by my side against these evil insurance companies that didn’t want to honor my HID lighting damage that I deserve. His prices are much cheaper then Acura dealership and he is 10X more trustworthy then any other mechanics I have dealt with. With Doug’s help I was able to locate the exact problem with the lighting damage and finally get the money from Geico to fix my 2003 Acura TL’s front end damage. So if you ever have any problems with your Acura or Honda don’t waste your money trying to take it to the rip off dealerships take it to Doug first.

Awesome and fast great service! Doug’s shop was suggested to me by a friend. It’s hard to find a mechanic that you can trust in the bay area that won’t rip you off. I had my Honda civic in because my lights were flickering funny so he determined it was an alternator issue. He gave me the option to get a high powered alternator or a regular one but suggested that I’d get the high powered one. I opted for the high powered one due to the sound system setup I have in the car. I had my car back by the next day and he even helped me tune my clutch at no extra charge!
I’ve had my car here twice for some repairs and he’s always taken care of me and given me fair advice on what to do with my car. If I have any more car issues, Doug will be seeing my car again.
