ACE Rent A Car

I assure you this is not on site. It took an hour and 15 minutes for the shuttle van to get to us. Not only that the driver was super disgruntled. When we got to the rental place, it took about 30 minutes to get the car. A model of inefficiency efficiency. It is NOT worth it. You might as well just pay the extra money to get a better car on site. They may have the cheapest van rental but it is simply not worth the inconvenience. Make sure you call while you are on the train. If you do not call they will not come and pick you up.

Even though it’s cheap, I don’t recommend to come here. What they do business here is a scam. You booked your van here, and when you come here, they said they don’t have it because… Then they tell you other options. Obviously, you will pay much more and you are very much screwed since you can’t go shopping again for a better deal. At the end, you will pay much more than expected.

We rented a van from ace because their prices are great prices… So while waiting for my turn on the counter, started getting nervous seeing all 1 – 2 star reviews and reading about them… I asked a few questions the people on Unilocal were complaining about. The clear things out for me.
They gave me a dodge van which looks like the dodge brand is the only kind of vans they have. Body was nice, it was clean, took a trip to LA for a few days and came back, no problem or complaints about the van :)

I reserved a mini-​van weeks ahead of time. Received a call the morning of my rental that they did not have a van available for me but I could rent a 15 passenger for the same price. I scrambled to find another rental company but all were much more expensive so I decided to stick with the van. So my 6 friends and I drove the huge 15 passenger van through the windy and steep mountains of CA. Definitely added unneeded stress to a vacation.
The staff were very nice but if you want a predictable, easy, and guaranteed rental experience, I suggest choosing another company. Paying a bit more $ is worth it.

Unorganized, one guy working processing one person every 30 minutes. Took FOREVER, they didn’t even have my van and the scheduled pickup time. Pay the extra $ 200 to go to a legitimate rental company. Come here if you want to wait a significant amount of time

Nice people. The vans are in decent shape — like a van you’d borrow from your uncle who has to explain that the check engine light is stuck on, or how to jimmy the handle of the back door to get it closed right — you know, not like Hertz or something where the cars are maintained like new usually.
Sometimes they run great specials. Sometimes the wait inside is over an hour. But of the four or five times we’ve rented, the problems have been minor annoyances.

Holy hell you guys, what a steaming turd of a business. I should’ve paid more attention to the previous reviews and stayed away, but I was charmed into ignorance by the big shiny cheap price-​quote I found on Orbitz.
I reserved an 8-​passenger van from them to pick up this past Saturday morning. My 3 best friends from college were all in town visiting with their SOs. Including myself and my husband, that made a party of 8 people total. We had a fun day of wine tasting and sightseeing planned in Napa (my husband even volunteered to sober-​drive all of us idiots around all day, major brownie points) and it would be more fun for all of us to travel together instead of in 2 separate vehicles. I tried to book a big-​ass SUV, but most places either didn’t have them available, or they were well above $ 400…so when I found a great deal from Ace for an 8-​passenger van I figured why not? It would be comical as hell, but convenient. So I made the reservation, and on Saturday morning, my husband and I drove up to Burlingame from Half Moon Bay to pick it up around 7am. The plan was to drive back to HMB, pick up the rest of our people, and be on the road to Napa by 9 in order to make our first appointment.
The building is situated in a weird little industrial-​ish side road off Bayshore. I wasn’t even sure it was the right place at first. We headed into the office, where only one person was working. So we had to wait around for a while. Fair enough, it was early in the morning. I let her know the name on the reservation and then she said she couldn’t give us the 8-​passenger van we wanted. I asked her why not, because we had a reservation. She claimed that «all of their 8-​passenger vans had been broken into the night before» so they couldn’t rent any out. Dafuq? There were a ton of these stupid things all throughout their parking lot, and none of them looked damaged at all except for one with plastic on the window out back. And who the hell would break into one of these stupid vans anyway? They’re all stripped-​down base models with nothing of value inside because hello, it’s a rental company. Nothing about it made sense. She asked if she could give us a minivan instead, but the only one she had available had seating for just 7 people. So no, that wouldn’t work. She asked if we could wait until 9am when a 15-​passenger van was due to be returned, but that wouldn’t work either because we had to be on the road out of HMB at that time (and like I was willing to count on a timely return anyway). It was ridiculous. We frantically tried to find another rental in the area that would fit our large party size, but on short notice, there either wasn’t anything available, or the price was up to $ 600. Chick at the desk didn’t seem to give a shit. Only seemed to stare through us, like she was taking a nap inside her head.
Their story sounded like bullshit, the parking lot was jam-​packed full of perfectly fine-​looking 8-​passenger vans, and seriously… even if there HAD been break-​ins, the fact that they didn’t even have the sense or courtesy to CALL people on their reservation list and let them know just goes to show how little they care about their customers.
So no dice. Really fucked up our plans for the day… not to mention it wasted our time and gas driving over the hill and back for nothing. Ended up having to take 2 cars anyway, so another person had to volunteer to DD. It really sucks when people are counting on you to make arrangements that everyone is looking forward to, and you have to break it to them that it’s not gonna go as planned. We’d had this on the books for MONTHS.
My advice would be to completely dismiss this rental company as a possibility — not even as a last resort — and just pay the extra money to rent from someone more reputable. You really do get what you pay for.

Terribly slow and inefficient. Waited 45 minutes in line and the line was short. I will never rent from them again and I recommend that this place should be avoided. Both representatives were missing in action for ten minutes then one returns reeking of smoke.

You gotta come here at least an hour before your reservation, that way you don’t get irritated when they lag so much. Cause if you come here expecting to get your van at the reserved time, that will NOT happen.

We booked a seven seater van for a weekend Tahoe trip for $ 50 a day. We booked the van for an 8am pickup time on a Friday morning and an 8pm drop-​off time on Sunday. When we booked it online, they had only charged us for 2 days (~$ 100), but somehow failed to charge us for 3 days and they only realized this when we dropped off the car. I guess you’re supposed to return it at the same time you picked it up (even though we picked a set drop-​off time) or else you’re gonna get charged for an extra day. Not sure how they failed to charge us for it online or at least mention it at pick up.
What sucked about this car rental was that it wasn’t even at the airport? The confirmation email listed absolutely nothing about its location besides it being at SFO. We spent a good thirty minutes trying to figure it out to find out we had to drive to Burlingame to get our rental. Why couldn’t they specify this originally to save us time, jeez.
Also…they had a 250 mile limit per day or else they’d start charging you per mile. I have never heard of any car rental agency that did this? Super lame, especially since we’re the ones filling up the gas anyways?
You’d think that this was a cheaper option compared to the other car rentals, but when you add up all the additional daily fees (like the underage fee), it’s about the same.
The van itself was pretty clean interior-​wise, but the exterior was a bit dirty. It survived us the whole Tahoe trip, there and back. It was okay. Save yourself some money and book at another car rental. but if you’re gonna book here w/​ACE then remember that the **LOCATION HAS MOVED TO BURLINGAME**!

Booked a 7 seater van for a Tahoe Weekend trip and found it on
for a lower pricing. It was $ 50 a day which isn’t too bad but do not let that fool you with the extra charges that comes with it.
First of all, the pick up location is pretty far from the SF airport which if you’re a tourist or had no car… then you would have to find some sort of transportation to get there. It did not specify on the confirmation page when booked online.
Second of all, the mileage is limited per day. 250 miles per day which other car rental locations usually have unlimited. We took it to tahoe which is 225 miles one way approx. without any detours so we were on a tight schedule in terms of mileage. It is 20 cents per mile if gone over, 29 cents per mile extra charge if you didn’t preorder the extra milage beforehand.
Third of all, booked for a 8am pick up time Friday and scheduled it for return on sunday 8pm… Initially online it charged me for 2 days but upon return. they charged extra $ 75 for an extra day of rental and under 25 age fee because it was returned past 8am. (that’s when we picked up on friday). Then they try to throw in hella fees and extras on you but i guess i understand the sales and scripts they have to go through.
If you’re wanting a better rental company or experience I would go with enterprise because at first it may seem like it is more expensive… but if you add up all the fees for ACE… it really is about the same. Mehhh Exp.

Found street parking to leave my personal car for weekend. Good front desk service, doubled checked tire pressure sign coming on. Car in decent shape and cleanliness stage. — off to Tahoe!

For some context, I rent a car nearly every week for business travel, and primarily use Avis due to company policy. This past weekend I was traveling with my family which was myself, my wife, and my four (4) children ages 1 – 9. Needless to say, travel in and of itself was stressful enough, so we were looking forward at the end of the flight to getting the car and getting to the hotel in time for some lunch.
The instructions for finding the shuttle indicated that we should wait at Island #3 at the rental car center, which I confirmed with dispatch when I called to tell them we were there and ready for the shuttle. We were the first family to any of the islands. When the shuttle finally arrived, there were a couple families at Island #3, and lot of people at Island #2. The van went to Island #2 and picked up a group that had arrived afterwards. When I confronted the driver, he indicated that the information I was provided was incorrect. We had to wait an extra 30 minutes, with all my kids, because the van only seated 7 people. I was highly dis-​satisfied with the fact that there was only one van running back and forth, and that it held so few people. This bottleneck represents extremely poor service.
When finally arriving at the rental place an hour after we first stood at the wrong island, I then stood in a line with 4 people in front of me for another hour. There were 1 – 3 agents at any given time helping people, but with no sense of urgency. My kids were crying, we were all tired, and the day was disappearing before our eyes as what usually takes 5 – 10 minutes at Avis (when it’s busy), took over 2 hours at ACE/​AVR.
The van was dirty on the outside, and did not have a full tank of gas, but I was not about to spend another hour trying to get a more satisfying car.
Upon returning the van, I had to wait in line behind one person for 15 minutes before I was asked if I’d been helped. It took another 15 minutes to process the return of the van. I was appalled that there was still only one shuttle going between the airport and the rental facility. After waiting for 20 minutes, the shuttle came back and picked up the other half of the party before us. 20 minutes later, it came to pick up my family. We spent an hour and 10 minutes at the rental place before we were able to leave to the airport.

Absolutely the worst rental experience in my life. One person working the counter, 5 different customers, all with reservations, I have been here for an hour and no one has received a rental yet… But there are 7 or 8 vehicles outside.

Buyer beware the rate is cheap but they are short on cars and staff. They have people waiting for three hours for their cars.
If the rate is within a couple $ go somewhere else

Horrible, awful, terrible!!! DO NOT USE THEM! I booked my van through priceline at a very cheap price. I should have known right there that there would be a problem. The first van they gave me was gross. Stained seats, lots of body damage, the steering was so bad I thought I would flip the van over on the freeway, and when I got to my destination an hour away I realized the van did not lock or unlock! I then popped the key out of the bottom of the remote and put it in the door only to realize it didn’t work and the key just spun around and around. I drove all the way back to exchange it for another van. Their «service» mechanic told me I just needed to push the button lots of times and eventually it would work but he wasn’t going to deal with it because he was getting off of work. What? I ended up going to the counter and asking for another van.
That van lasted a day when my windows were smashed during a break-​in. Their advice? Drive the car with the two smashed in windows back to them (with my kids in the car with flying glass on the freeway) or they would charge me $ 99 to bring me a new car. I asked them to bring me the new car. Their roadside person busted out the remaining glass all over the residential street where I was parked. She brought no broom or anything to clean it up! Then the van they gave me for the third time was just as gross as the first one.
When it was finally time to return the car they charged me $ 120 for the «roadside assistance», not the $ 99. When I asked about this she said it actually «starts» at $ 99. Something they DID NOT disclose, nor did they take into account I had already driven two hours the first day to exchange a car that was clearly defective.
The second van they gave me had brakes so bad they squealed and were grinding at every stop. I have no idea if there were any brake pads on it!
The people at this place are rude, incompetent and they are a complete rip-​off. DO NOT ever even think of using these people. They’re cheap for a reason.

I had booked online for a 15 seater van. Me and my mom came 2 hours earlier than scheduled to pick up our rental and the place was pretty dead. (Possibly because we came at opening)
The front desk lady was friendly and accommodating and the entire rental process was easy and quick. It literally took us less than 20min to get our van.
The prices are cheap compared to other rental car places. So far I have no complaints.

My dad booked our car for Napa (a minivan) through ACE. He had actually sent me the confirmation email ahead of time but I didn’t think much about it. It was only after arrived at the rental car facility at San Fran airport that I checked in on Unilocal and started to get a little worried.
First off, the reviews are terrible, and somewhat rightfully so. I mentioned the reviews to my father and he admitted he was a little weary when booking but that the price $ 171 for 3 days was half the price of any other rental car option, so he had to go with it.
The worst part… the wait. After arriving at the San Fran airport rental building you’re directed downstairs to the curb to call the ACE shuttle. They do have a courtesy phone at the curb, or you can call from your cell. Wait time was projected to be 5 – 7 minutes, but we definitely waited about 25. I actually was about to call again when then van pulled up.
Getting the our van also required more waiting. Pretty empty when we got there, but only two staff members and the paperwork seemed much slower then any other rental I’ve ever done.
The minivan itself was nice, and the staff showed us some extra tips related to the car itself like hiding areas for purses etc, apparently break ins of minivans in this area are common. I’d almost round up to 3 stars for the staff being friendly at this point.
But, I’m sticking to two because returning the car was a nightmare! It was PACKED when we came to return the van on a Saturday close to lunch time and it took forever to talk to a staff member! Never in my life has returning a car been so painful.
Considering we saved $ 175+ by renting here I’d still consider it an option, but seriously shop around the better known companies for deals before coming here!

First of all I don’t know where or what website my parents used to book a car but it was the biggest nightmare ever !! Thank God we are only traveling to LA and only need the vehicle for a couple of days but the customer service reps and the employees are beyond rude !!
When my parents got to the location, they were unaware that there were different deposits pending what form of payment is presented. For Credit cards its $ 150 and for debit cards its $ 250 … RIDICULOUS! my mom called me extremely frustrated and so I called the toll free number listed on the website and ran that information by one of the representatives. She informed me that it does state that deposit information under payment information on the website.
Of course I looked at it myself and the payment options link doesn’t stand out and to someone who doesn’t know how to operate a computer, this would be very hard to come across. They should definitely have the deposit disclosure located on the page in which you confirm your rental.
We will never use this company again nor refer anybody to them.

They had one guy working the counter and with one person ahead of me, he spent 2hrs arguing rates with that person, while I waited. Not joking. The manager said he was locked out of the system and could not help me. WTH, seriously?
After 2 hrs a 2^nd person showed up, by that time I decided to go back to the Airport and rent from another provider. Pure lack of respect for the customer’s time.
Background: I rented a car via Expedia and got ACE. After arriving at SFO I could not find ACE listed anywhere! So I called the number listed on the reservation and their greeting informed me they are actually AVR.
They are an offsite provider, you have to call them in advance and they will come pick you up from the «Kiss n Fly» at SFO.
