Horrid customer service. I bought a Schlage deadbolt, which fell apart after I installed it and went to return it for a refund. Flat out refused so I walked out of the door leaving it on the counter. There is a reason to go to a big box store. They tend to stand behind their products.

OMG this store is amazing. There is SO much to see here — you will find MANY things that the big box stores don’t even carry. I needed one of those older shower spray type thing that you hook to the faucet and couldn’t find locally. These people had two different models to choose from.
Some other reviewers have bitched about the prices but in the process fail to realize what it takes to run a business like this against the big box stores. These people aren’t going to be getting the volume discounts that the big box stores do and they’re also dealing with rent in downtown Burlingame which I’m sure is anything but cheap so of course their prices are going to be higher. But for that higher price you’re getting A) Local convenience B) Hard to find items that the larger stores don’t carry. Personally those two factors make this place worth more than the price of admission,

My boyfriend and I stopped by here a few months ago. We needed to buy some rope to properly strap down a mattress to the top of our SUV.
The man who assisted us was very direct and helpful. He showed us the different ropes and straps they had and explained the weights that each of them could hold. We ended up buying the ones he suggested and though we were nervous about driving 40 miles to get the mattress home, it stayed safe and strapped down! Whew!
The only thing I dislike about the location is that no matter what day or time it is, Burlingame Ave. has terrible parking options. Street parking is almost always full and you have to circle the parking lots 5 times before finding someone who is leaving.
Anyway, the customer service was great and if we lived closer to the area, we’d definitely be back for any other hardware needs :)

Been in there a handful of times. They’re all just so rude, for no reason. It’s like you’re bothering them by asking for something. Everything is super overpriced too. I continued to go out of convenience but after this last experience I would rather go out of my way than go there.

It might be a little more to shop here rather than drive to one of the big box hardware stores, but it’s worth shopping here because of the service level. I walked down to Ace to get a piece for the fluorescent light in my kitchen. Two people helped me look for the part without luck. So we (myself and my two dogs) walked out and made our way thru to back parking lot. We were almost to Primrose rd when the sales lady came looking for us. We had been gone 5 minutes and she came looking for us. They found the part! I bought it and was very impressed with their customer service. It might have only been a $ 8 part but I will definitely keep shopping here for all of my hardware related things. Thank you for a great experience!

I try my best to support local business even though this particular Ace is over priced. During the course of my construction build out, I must have spent $ 500 there. I got an extension cord from there and it stopped working after a few months. The value of the cord is $ 12.99. I asked him if he would be willing to exchange it and the owner said no.
I bought another cord from him cause I needed it urgently. I will never shop here again cause of the service I received after being loyal to them. Very disappointed.

New to the area, I love dropping by here and getting my supplies.
The owner is super nice and helpful, it’s easy to return anything that has not been used or opened.
Having someone spending time to talk to you and figure out the exact thing you need is priceless.
It’s so much nicer to come here than the big box stores.

Ace is the helpful place, right? Think again. I live in the neighborhood and always want to support a local business. Went to this place in a bind — had to get a tool that I needed. Got it and came home to see it was the wrong tool — when I went to return it, was glad to see that they have no hassle returns. This dude hassled me. His wife and him are obvious fixtures of the neighborhood — but please don’t hassle us on a return.

Don’t go here! I bought a can of spray paint and the can was faulty; it leaked out in the first use. It was all over my hands, my clothes, my FEET, and it dripped all over the can. Well I had to finish my small basket and by the end of that, the whole can was gone! I figured, no problem, I’ll just show them the can and my stained hands and feet and they will just exchange the can for a new one. WRONG! I was welcomed by a woman, (who I think may be the owners wife), and she grilled me like a I was a convict making up some sort of story! She kept saying, «The can is empty»! NO DUH!!! I told her 3 times the can leaked out the whole time! Really? You really think I would lie about a $ 3.99 can of paint so I could get a new one? Isn’t the customer supposed to be right anyway? I guess the $ 3.99 was worth losing a customer!!! I would NEVER recommend anyone shopping here!

Calling around before getting in the car, I was trying to get some help with a shower faucet handle that needed replaced. Called a few places that were worse than useless, a couple rude, one just hung up on me. Then I called the very nice people at Ace Hardware in Burlingame. He looked up what I needed, knew what I was talking about, spent time seeing if he had it, and when he didn’t… SENT ME TO A COMPETITOR because he knew they would have it. What a guy!!! And he called me «dear». I don’t even need anything and I’m going in there to spend money. Maybe I’ll buy a fancy keychain. These people know what customer service really means. Wow!

I totally agreed other customer’s review — This is exactly what a neighborhood hardware store should be!!! And they like helping people!!!
Today, my husband was assembling a trike for our little one as his birthday gift but we misplace the wheel parts, my hubby tried over one hour to take the wheel out with no luck, so I took the trike to ACE hoping to find if any tool can let me get the wrong part off!
I wait in line at the counter then a very friend man ask me what he can do for me, I told him, then he starts to help me right away! he tried to hard to pull the ring out using all kinds of tools, he needs to use very big strength since the ring is totally stuck in there, and I am afraid he might hurt himself, then finally it came off! He is my hero!
When I asked him how much do I need to pay? He insistently said no.
He reminds me my daddy in my hometown! Thank you so much!

I love hardware stores and typically go to Wisnom’s in San Mateo or the shop in Menlo Park. On three occasions I’ve needed something and was in Burlingame so I stopped in to this location. I’ve read the reviews and am a bit surprised — clearly I have gone during times when the regular staff is not there or it has just been a tough day. No greeting or customer service to speak of. Each question, even if something very simple, is met with a blank stare or a mumbled «I don’t know.» I expect more from a hardware store in Burlingame ($$$) and especially from ACE. I prefer to shop at smaller hardware stores as the experience is so much more rich and the merchandise is quality — plus many are family-​owned and I want my business to go to that type of a business. Sadly I will not shop at this location again as I do like to ask questions and get at least an educated guess.

This is my neighborhood hardware store and it’s OK. Mostly, I come here to get keys made or pick up something random like duct tape or a broom w/​dustpan. If I have a long list of items to pick up, then a trip to a larger store is involved.
The duo who runs this shop (I assume a husband and wife?) are very nice and happy to make keys for you or help find whatever it is you need.
The big problem? Things here are WAY overpriced! Purchased an over-​the-​door hanger the other day and it was $ 12. No, it wasn’t made of 14K gold. Although I was tempted to return it back to the shelves, we really did need it and had been putting off buying one for months. If I wanted to overpay more often, I’d just do my grocery shopping at the gas station.
Really, this Ace Hardware is good for household emergencies or novelty items, such as mustache magnets or corn on the cob holders. That’s about it.

I had to duplicate some keys, and I was told to go there. The lady was really nice, she made the keys quickly, and all keys are working great.
I just wish they had some designated parking spaces, it is so inconvinient to worry about parking meters, while you are there. you cannot take your time there.

This is the best Hardware store… I lost my favorite earring down the bathroom sink… the very helpful and friendly gentleman told me how to retrieve it. which I just did. and he sold me a small strainer to fit over the hole… so it won’t happen again. Now that’s what I call service. so much better than any other place I’ve been! And it’s like this every time. So glad your right in my neighborhood!

drove in, bought a bulb for my desktop lamp, and it turned out to be broken when I got home (one of those small halogen bulbs). The chap working there said bring it in and swapped it out no questions asked… that’s what I call customer service. Thank you! enlightened

Sure Hardware stores don’t have the space or as many products as a Home Depot but the customer service is excellent. This Ace is small so you pretty much have to have assistance getting anything down from the shelves. We went in for a Hedger and the employee was readily available with a ladder and helped us. The price for the hedger was also cheaper than those at Home Depot.
Considering Burlingame is a small city, Ace is convenient except there is only street parking w Meters available.

Sunday afternoon amidst an upscale gardening project… I run out of soil and pots. Being it that I happen to live locally, I head out, dirt still on my hands to acquire more potting soil and possibly a new planter box. I am greeted with cheery smiles and a warm hello!
Assistance is always offered as you enter the store and an associate is not tied up helping another customer decipher where to find a product in their store or make paint finish recommendations. I am pleased to have this hardware store in my community!
