I have had two bad experiences at the salon so I felt it was necessary to write a review.
The first time I went to the salon I went in with a cut I wanted and The stylist told me she cuts hair the way it looks best on me however she basically just chopped it off and it looks horrible did not listen to me at all.
The next time I went in which was just the other day I took a picture with me and tried a different stylist. I was given a gift card so I thought I’ll try again. This was a big cut for me as my hair was quite long and I was probably taking off a good ⁴⁄₅ inches. I showed a picture and I thought we’re on the same page but when I left I realized the cut I got was awful. It was choppy uneven and looked really bad. So I went immediately to another hair stylist i have used regularly and asked if she could fix it. The first cut at tangles was so bad and uneven that I had to get even more hair cut off! needless to say I’ve ended up with a haircut that was nothing like what I wanted and as far shorter than I could’ve ever imagined.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. My niece who also went in there to try it out a few months ago walked in with hair down to the middle of her back asking for a slight trim and walked out with shoulderlength hair. There seems to be a lack of listening to the customers here and also doing a good job. I won’t be going back.

Tried this salon after reading the reviews and I was looking for something closer than Arlington, and it was average. I had a cut and blow dry. The cut was done but it wasn’t to die for. The blow dry wasn’t as good but it’s hard to find someone that can truly blow dry the hair. The prices are high and I don’t see the reason for it. I found the salon to be a bit outdated. They should consider renovating if they are charging those prices. Overall average, buy I’m not coming back for an average $ 60 a hair cut only. I’ll drive to Arlington for my usual stylist.

Had the rare chance to get a cut and color after having my baby. Tried this salon after reading all the good reviews. Salon is nice looking enough. Staff seemed decent. My appointment was with a senior stylist. I am very disappointed with the Cut and color. The highlight starts halfway down the hair, my gray hair is still showing (the main reason I wanted the appointment!), and the cut is not what I asked for at all. The bangs are so short I am going to need to wait sometime before I can try another salon to get it all fixed. It took hours for her to do it between other clients and her pace. She didn’t seem like she felt well so perhaps that is the reason for the poor job. She did however manage to try and sell product that she said I «needed». Honestly I don’t have anytime to do that all again. I just want to cry but it may be hormones.

I’ve been in the area for 5 years and have gone through the hair salon gauntlet one experiences when moving to a new town. I’d hang in there for 3 or 4 visits, then just move on because the stylist would never quite «get» me or what I wanted. Enter Christian from Tangles a few weeks ago! I found him on Unilocal,He listened, he didn’t rush, he made my hair look exactly like the picture I brought, and he’s fun! The best part? Weeks later my blonde color and the haircut still look great! He’s my guy! Betty

I had read other reviews when relocating to the area to see where I should go and who should do my hair. The reviews were on point. Not only is the receptionist very friendly and helpful when making an appointment, but my stylist Christian was both effusively bubbly and warm and took my concerns seriously (I have really sensitive skin and can react to most hair products), but he also really listened to my desired style and cut.
He did a fabulous job and I am thrilled with how it turned out. The prices are reasonable and the salon is tastefully appointed. I found a new salon and a new stylist in my neighborhood. Woot!

I saw Manal last year and again this Spring. She listens to you, gives her honest advice and helps guide you in the right direction. I was very nervous to dye my hair for the first time and she did a wonderful job. I always love the cut — very fresh and modern looking. So thankful this place is right down the road!

I have been with Millie (one of the owners) for the past 15 years! Her knowledge of cut, colour and makeup is superb! I love the relaxing, happy atmosphere, it’s always a pleasure to be at Tangles!

I’ve been going here for the past 10yrs. I started with Mara, but she moved a while ago. I decided to stay and give someone else a try, so I now get my hair done with Clorise and she is excellent. She listens and does a very good job. Place is clean and staff is friendly. I def recommend this salon and her.

I recently moved to Burke and was in search of a decent place for a haircut. I had previously gone to trendy spots in DC, but living farther away now, I decided to brave something new. I am SO glad that I did. I saw Christian for a pretty drastic change in style and have never been more happy with a haircut! I have received so many compliments on it and am just so pleased with how it turned it! The best part is it’s easy to style and work with whether I decide to blow dry it or wear it wavy. Christian was a doll and is immensely talented. I’ll definitely be back and recommending Tangles and Christian to anyone in the area!

WOW. JUST WOW.
I have been with the same hair stylist for years. I’m Unilocaling really late but this is that. There is a stylist that works there for about 3 years now. I used to be a very regular client when she worked closer to my house, now she is about 45 minutes away from me.
Her name is Manal, she is unbelievably talented. I used to get my hair cut by a guy in Georgetown that would cost me about $ 85 JUST for a cut. This place has great pricing and Manal is AMAZING.
Manal is very hard working, she is really patient with you and is spectacular. She not only does exactly what you tell her, but she is telling you what shes doing while shes doing it. She is just so friendly, educating and extremely nice. I’ve built a great friendship with her now.
The staff at Tangles are also super friendly. They greet you and talk to you so you never feel alone while waiting or anything.
Great atmosphere. LOVE IT. GO SEE MANAL!

I would not recommend going here for a manicure. The technician is very nice but she just doesn’t specialize in nails. Very limited selection of shellac polishes. They advertise shellac manicures at $ 30.00 also when you call or email you are quoted that price. Surprise they add on $ 5.00 for polish removal… very deceptive. The receptionist reminded me that these polishes are only intended to be worn for a few weeks. I think we can all decide when to change our polishes she doesn’t really need to get involved with those decisions. I would not go back here.

The store is clean and the staff is professional and friendly. Yasmeen is an awesome hair stylist and great with color too.

I just got a wonderful cut/​color from Yasmeen. In fact I have had a wonderful cut/​colors/​highlights from Yasmeen for the past eight years. I first starting seeing her when I lived in Burke. When I moved to Arlington seven years ago — every four to five weeks for the remaining time I have driven out 1 hour rou for my monthly appt. (I even followed her when she changed salons about five years ago!)
I have fine hair and for most stylists (I’m a military spouse for 20+ years so I’ve seen quite a few) — it’s challenging to cut and style. After 13 years (when I moved to DC) — I had a rule for stylsts — one strike and you’re out. Yasmeen has never had a strike. Ever. I regularly get compliments and she is always updating my look to be fashionable. I HIGHLY recommend her.

Got an appointment with Leslie and she was fun, fast and gave me the first cut I have had in a long time that I not only loved when I walked out of the salon but love the day after too. The place is nice, clean and not what I expected from a Wal-​Mart shopping center – meaning it was much nicer. Leslie is great and I’ll be going back to her again for sure.

I loved my stylist but am not sure of her name! I believe it may be Mailan – she was on the rear, left workstation as you face into the salon. She had dark hair and mentioned she was getting married. I wanted to write this to thank her and give her credit for the beautiful, beautiful cut and highlights she did for me. I was very happy with the job she did and received a lot of compliments! SHE LISTENS! Please correct me if I got the name wrong! I’m a picky old gal and loved this stylist! Give her a try!

if you go here you gotta go with Deymi! She’s a great stylist. She does an amzing job with cuts and blow drys. She only works on the weekends but she’s good! My hair grows so quickly with her. Recommend!

I am new to the area and went to Tangles due to the excellent reviews on Unilocal.I have to say, Christian was amazing and I will definitely be returning. I have found my new stylist. It is pricey, but worth every penny. The staff is amazing and so kind. They really care about what you want as a client. I definitely recommend Christian!

Having just recently moved to Burke, I was a bit anxious in making this appt. However, my fears were put to rest when I saw the final product of perm and cut from Christian. Price is commensurate with the service.

So many people have noticed my new hair cut and style! I am SUPER pleased with Brittany at Tangles Hair & Spa. she is GREAT talent, thank goodness I found her!
This was my first time at Tangles: First, the receptionist was very helpful and polite over the phone, they worked with my schedule to fit me two days later! I am so glad they have extended hours so I could pop in after work! I booked Brittany at random over the phone and I’m SO GLAD! My hair immediately looked AMAZING. she’s FANTASTIC!
Brittany was ready and welcoming when I arrived. I’ve had long hair, short hair, layers, asymmetrical and blunt cuts but had no strong thoughts on the new cut/​style I wanted. my hair is fine; I’m always concerned with it looking flat. Brittany’s consultation was robust, she chatted me through what would look best for my face and my fine hair. She was very knowledgeable; she cut then gave easy to understand/​remember tutorials for styling and recommended products. You know when you get a cut/​style that not only suits you but enhances your looks. cause everyone tells you! She also did my mani very pretty, it has lasted a week so far :) and I understand she does makeup as well which I’ll be back to try :)
I’ll be booking again with Brittany very soon!!! Her hours: Sun 9 – 3, Mon 9 – 5, Tues 2 – 8, Thurs 2 – 8, Fri 8 – 2.

This is my favorite salon — I have been coming here for many years and still do even though I no longer live in VA.
Mailan is the only person I trust with my eyebrows, facials, pedis — so much so that I drive three hours to see her.
All of the stylists do an extremely wonderful job as well. I practically lived here while preparing for my wedding last year — getting highlights, morrocan oil hair treatments (you must try this) and blow outs.
On holidays/​many weekends they put out a spread of goodies, and for weddings they put together a fancy spread for the bridal party as well!
