Select Heating and Cooling

My husband and I used Select Heating and Cooling for years… first for a maintenance plan… later for a humidifier, years later for new furnace and AC units. Since they also provide also plumbing service, we knew that we could depend on Select to provide the same superior plumbing service that we had received for heating and cooling. Sorry, I can’t remember the name of every tech that has come to our home, but they have all been very professional and courteous. We highly recommend Select… we won’t go anywhere else!

I’d called to ask about the price for repairs I wanted and reached a somewhat uninformed person but I was able connect with «Jimmy» who was polite and gave me good information about their product. I was hoping Jimmy would be the one to do the work but the guys who came were knowledgeable and friendly and appeared to do good work. Select arrived out more or less on time and did the work they’d quoted for the price they’d given me. I’d go with them again.

The HVAC unit in my rental home hasn’t been checked in like… ever, though it’s only about 4 – 5 years old. Select came out and did a thorough check, found that everything was working properly and pointed out the correct size filter we should be changing. The tech was polite and clean and their office staff was helpful and efficient.

Very unprofessional staff. Their work on replacing my AC unit was fine, but they went ahead and unplugged my old AC before I was ready /​confirmed, which could have been a disaster. (By luck, it wasn’t). Then, months later, they told me I had an oustanding balance that they forgot about after my work was done. I have repeatedly called to settle my bill, but apparently their contact number is not a dedicated line to their office, and it’s clear they do not have staff to help settle issues (including payment!) once the job is done. Would definitely, definately dis-​recommend.

Jim, owner of Select Heating, sets the bar high for honesty and integrity as a small business owner. He has helped us repeatedly with gas and plumbing projects, I refer him to my customers and have had great reviews from those he has assisted. Jim is incredibly responsive and helpful, and puts in quality installations at reasonable rates.

I originally posted a very positive review for this company, however they have greatly disappointed me. To make a long story short, they were dishonest with me about the work that had to be done as well as tried to charge me for something they weren’t supposed to. For one, they replaced my AC unit 2.5 years ago, and one of the techs asked me how long I was planning on living in my condo, because he said that I might have to replace it. WHAT?! Every person I spoke with had a different story, be it a technician or a person over the phone. I recently got a home warranty and will now only deal with service companies through them. When a tech from NICE home services came, he told me that nothing was wrong with my unit, and everything was in order. He also told me to take one of the filters out, which Select told me to put in. He said that having that extra filter would make my unit go out faster. So I ended up not having to replace anything as a result and saved my money.

They installed a great Rheam system for us in Alexandria about 2 years ago. The price was great b/​c owner found rebated and good tax credits. Work was well done and owner came out to inspect the job.

My Heat/​AC system went out so I called Select and they came right over and found that it was a simple relay and had it back up and running in no time. I think the price was very reasonable considering it was short notice. While the repair guy was here, he noticed that my built-​in humidifier was not working and he fixed that too at no charge. I would recommend them to anyone.

I setup an appointment for a duct work quote with Tina (I think?) for the next day between 0800 and 0830. She said she would call me in the morning to confirm who would be coming out, but I never received a call. I called at about 0845 because no one had shown up. The woman I spoke with asked Tina in the background if she called me this morning, came back on the line, and told me the person was in traffic and would be here in 30 – 45 minutes. My response was, «wow, that’s a while. I guess I’ll continue to wait.» She quickly something to the effect of «ok» or «that’s fine» and hung up. Joshua and Sergio pulled in my driveway at 0918. Nice guys, they seemed knowledgeable, they wrote me a proposal on the spot, and said they could do the work as soon as I was ready. I’ll revise this review if I decide to use them for the work.

I have used Select on multiple projects when I am adding or converting a fireplace. They have been responsive and efficient when called. I’d highly recommend them.

Update, took the word that the second fix corrected leak in air handler by Select. Did repair to water damaged ceiling myself after tech said all is good. Now 9 months later same problem with air handler leak, with major damage to ceiling again from water from air handler. Drip pan had standing water and new line installed was leaking at joint when I went up to see what was going on again. So mad that the repair was not done right on second service appt. Called Select and President of Select called me back and will have tech come out tomorrow on July 3^rd to check again. Will post update after what i hope is final fix.
Tech came out as promised, and assessment was low on freon so coils inside air handler would freeze and not drain correctly. Paid to get freon added to unit plus service call fee, which I don’t feel is fair since the 1^st and 2^nd repairs were not done right or right assessment to find cause was not determined until today. Hope this is it, but told unit from1998 is old and to consider buying new unit. Fix could be a few months or last till next summer. I don’t feel like a valued customer after spending over $ 800 with Select. Makes me wonder why I would consider Select for future business based on my experience.

I write this review in hopes it will help another consumer. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I am waiting for the repairman to return for the sixth time. When I called the office they state they are busy with numerous AC units down, the problem is that we did everything like one should. Had the company out for an inspection to make sure everything was ready to go. All systems good they reported. First HOT day no AC. Repairman came and sold us a thermostat when two hours AC not working, repairman come again that afternoon. Oh we forgot to turn on a switch, that night on AC. Owner of the company comes the next day of I think you need a pump. Three days later repairman comes again to replace the pump within two hours no AC.
They will come back out. What a joke. I may not have a job anymore.
Sad thing is that we went with them because we met them at the Home Show and thought great a family owned business. We wanted to give the support. BIG mistake.

Just had Select out to my home for the third time in maybe four years. Always great service, always honest and reasonably priced. Will use you in the future as necessary. Trust Select before you let anybody «…and Sons» into your home!

My reputation and strength as a realtor professional rests not only on what I do, but as important, on the vendors who support me. I have short lists of every vendor type, but when it comes to hvac/​plumbing, select is at the very top of the list. I strongly recommend them to clients and use them for my own properties.

I called Select Heating and Cooling last week when my furnace stopped working. It was 25 degrees that day. They were great on the phone and they were able to send a tech righ a way. Hector was very professional, and got my heat working within half an hour. The price was fair and the service was great. I will most definitely use them in the future.
