Established in 2003.

Originally opened in 2003, My Gym Burke is recently under new ownership. The gym was renovated in April 2013 with new equipment and new, innovative programming for classes, birthday parties, and camps.

Meet the Business Owner

Michelle and Tom D.

Business Owner

After first meeting while they were serving as health educators in the Peace Corps, Ms. Michelle and Mr. Tom married in 2012 and moved to Northern VA, where they came upon the opportunity to purchase My Gym Burke from long-​time owner Ms. Carmen.

Since she started with My Gym in 2006, Ms. Michelle has always dreamed of owning and operating a My Gym. After completing formal training in California, she was the first director of the My Gym in Annapolis, MD for two years. Mr. Tom loves helping out on nights and weekends, and enjoys the change of gears from his day job in D.C.

Michelle has a bachelor’s in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland and a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University in New York, and Tom has a B.A. in Policy Studies and MPA from Syracuse University.

Went here yesterday with my family for my friends son birthday party and I have to say I was very impressed with the staff and the venue itself. The kids had so much fun and played non stop for an hour and a half and right after they finished eating they ran right back to playing. This location is a bit far from where I live but I will probably check out the Sterling one too.

Even though we’ve lived less than 5 minutes away for years (since before we had kids), we had never been to My Gym until my daughters (2−¼, 4) attended a birthday party there recently. [The main reason for not trying it, admittedly, is that I had taken one of my daughters to a class at Gymboree in Burke and was not impressed. Sadly, I let that experience color my impression of kids gyms in general.]
After a great experience at the birthday party, my daughters really wanted to go back. I signed them each up for a free class, just to see how that experience compared to the party. I found the teachers to be really engaging (especially Tanya, who has been at most of the classes we’ve been to), and the classes are a good mix of free play and structured activities. We have been taking advantage of the unlimited classes for the summer, and both girls are going 2 – 3 times a week, at least. I think it will be a shock to them when we have to scale back to once a week.

I’ll start by saying that after my first review, this business did reach out to my family, and offered a month of classes so that my son could try the facility again. When I stopped by, the employee was not able to offer us the month of classes-​instead offering one free class and a discount on lifetime membership. We did not take this option, and decided to try MyGym again in the future. We LOVE what they do at public events.
So fast forward to the future-​we recently attended a birthday party at MyGym, (the children were ages 2 – 7) and the experience was wonderful. The kids had fun, the staff was wonderful, and everything seemed clean and organized.
I’ve updated my rating to reflect the birthday party experience, and Michelle, if you’re reading this, we very much appreciate you reaching out to us previously! That’s the beautiful thing about Unilocal

We’ve had nothing but amazing experiences at MyGym in Burke. The instructors truly have a true passion for working with children. The facility is clean and has a great variety in activities and classes. My 3 year old and I highly recommend it!

I took my daughter here last night as a friend from her school invited her. The instructors were very accommodating and interacted well with the children. The activities provided we good and my daughter had a great time. I am not sure if we would become members but as long as my daughter has a place to play and have fun. I am all for it.

We just held our daughter’s 5th birthday party here and were blown away by the experience. This was our first party held somewhere other then our home and it was amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure all the kids had a great time and made it so easy that we even got to enjoy it as well. The expression of pure joy on my child’s face as she got to play special games geared to the theme of the party that we selected was worth every (reasonably priced) penny. I have nothing but great things to say about their birthday parties.

My 5yr old son just had a birthday party here and he loved it! The kids had a blast and all the parents thought it was great. Some of the kids were already saying they wanted their next birthday party here. Tom really went out of his way to make it a great party. Thank you!

We have been a member of my gym for over a year now. My son is just over three and he gets excited to go the gym. We are working on his social skills and his ability to wait his turn my gym does a wonderful job of promoting both. He talks about Ms. Michelle and Ms. Jenny non stop at home. They are wonderful with the children and we are happy we joined!

We had my daughter’s 4th birthday party here and it was amazing! She had a ball. They accommodated our requested disney frozen theme — which was very difficult as frozen paraphernalia isy very difficult to come by… I think they called party city every day until they got our in Stock!
Many of the parents commented on how much fun their kids had at the party. We really were blown away. Thank you to miss Michelle and mr. Tom!

Held a phenomenal birthday for my 4 year old son and one of his friends at MyGym Burke. Miss Amber and Mr. Charles were outstanding instructors and definitely conformed the party to what the kids wanted to do and felt comfortable doing. These guys made a toddler birthday party a cakewalk. Thanks again!!!

A big Thank You to Michelle and Tom for running an amazing birthday party for my 5-​year-​old. My daughter and her friends had a wonderful time and they took care of everything. I highly recommend one of the theme parties as a great value. There was a great balance between free play and structured activities. Michelle and Tom went above and beyond in planning the games and interacting with the kids.
Both of my kids have also attended the My Gym camps and had a wonderful time. The entire facility is extremely clean. The staff takes safety extremely seriously.
I was actually at the Open House (mentioned in the negative review below) with both my kids and felt that the staff did an amazing job interacting with the kids and monitoring safety. My girls still talk about all of the costumed characters at that party.

We have been member of My Gym for almost 4 years, 3 of those years spent at this particular gym. We joined when Carmen was the owner and took a class and also did the summer camps as well as 3 birthday parties, open houses, and attended other friends’ birthday parties. My daughter has always had a fun time, the owner then, Carmen, as well as now Michelle and Tom are professional, and child centered. They go out of their way to accommodate your child’s needs. With the exception of the vacation camps, my daughter has just grown out of most of the classes and birthday parties, but it was always a fun, safe and reasonably cost place to entertain children. I know I will miss it just as much as my daughter.

We held a birthday party here for our 2 year old this weekend after recently joining the gym. This My Gym has new owners and it has been updated. They did a fabulous job gearing the activities for our age group and were very energetic.
The class schedule has a ton of great evening times that work well into the working-mom’s schedule and our son is always exhausted when he leaves (he requests the «indoor playground» nearly every day).
Very pleased with Michelle (the owner) and Amber who is there for most, if not all, of the sessions. Happy to have this great resource in Burke, VA.

Let me be the first to review the new owners. They are awesome! Place is always clean and inviting. We love coming here and we love the new owners. They are working through some initial growing pains but you never have to doubt where their heart is — it is with your kid. They truly care and that is no small thing. Give them a try, they will love you like their own.

Tucked into this small shopping plaza is big fun for little ones! My two toddlers really enjoy their time at this My Gym and adore their instructor, Ms Carmen. Ms Carmen really knows what she’s doing. She loves children, and it really shows. We did try another My Gym at another location, but they just didn’t have the patience to handle my two toddlers. Also the Burke location has a great schedule that really works with our schedule. I would highly recommend the Burke My Gym to other moms who have little ones who want to have fun!
